American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

If correct I'm not too crazy about Elliot's song choices. Katharine's second song I have never heard of before. :confused3

I can hear Chris doing the first song and Taylor's first chloice is a fun one.

I like when we start to get to this point, maybe I'll finally be able to pick who I want to win this thing.

Nancy, I posted a link back a bit to the video of Kat's second song. You'll probably recognize it once you hear it. You can also hear Chris's second song on the artist's website.

The spoilers for Elliott should be accurate. One of Elliott's buddy's gave these clues and they match the song spoilers:

Elliott is here to stay, by george. After last week, there should be no question of that. And this week will further show he's not going home anytime soon

Well, if the birth year song that Chris will be singing is it then I have to say
 :Pinkbounc :bounce: :hyper: :dancer: :jumping1: party: :rockband:

That is my favorite song by one of my favorite bands and I think Chris will do it justice.

Paris' birth year song -- (spoiler) is that the one by Prince?? Oh, geez, now I feel old!

If Taylor does that for his birth year song, this ought to be interesting to see Simon's reaction. :lmao: I'd never heard the current song listed for him but I checked a snippet on amazon.com and I think he'll do well with it.

Elliott's BY song is ideal for him and Kat should do well with her's (despite the fact that it makes me feel old as well).

I watched that clip and I don't think I've ever heard it before. It is an interesting song choice for her and if she gets it right it will really show her talent.

The spoilers for Chris that I have been seeing have been either Renegade by Styx or I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick (both Chicaog bands-kick butt!)
and
Right Here by Staind or I Dare You by Shinedown.

Any of these choices would be AWESOME for him.

I could totally see him running around the stage singing Renegade (similar to how he rean around during Higher Ground).
I cant wait until tonight!!

The spoilers for Taylor including the Beatles song seem to be what is being reported by many radio stations. Anyone know how he could sing a Beatles song for his current song? There must be some explanation.

I didn't think they had permission to do any Beatles songs??? It seems like I had read that somewhere.

I'm really looking forward to tonight. I love when they sing 2 songs a piece!

He can do the Beatles song because Beatles 1 is either 5th or 6th on the Billboards Album chart. Also, it's a George Harrison song, not a McCartney/Lennon song so it wasn't as hard to get the rights to sing it. Same as I think someone in Season 2 sang Here, There and Everywhere?

That would be pretty slimy of him to choose a song that was recorded so many years ago as his "this week on the charts" song. :sad2:

What is so slimy about him chosing it? Beatles 1 is currently on the Billboards Album chart in the Top 10. Since we have seen that TPTB are more than happy to take away his song choice at the last minute if they don't feel like it "fits". if they are okay with it, then I can't see how it's slimy.

IMHO, the purpose of this week is to show viewers how well the singer can handle a older song, and how well the singer can handle a brand-new song.

Slimy.

Well, if the purpose of this show was to see how the contestants handle current music, then why didn't they make this Billboard's top 100 only and not leave it open to ANY of the Billboard charts? If Taylor was not doing what the producers wanted, they would nix the song, plain and simple. According to the spoilers, they are okay with it and consider it acceptable. Maybe you are reading more into the intention of this week's theme than you should. To me the purpose was "music that charted the year you were born and music that charted this year". the Beatles are charting this year. :confused3

Are you going to call "slimy" on Paris's birth year choice? Because Prince released Kiss in 1986. Paris was born in 1988. She's getting a technicality because Tom Jones recorded it in 1988.

Did you call "slimy" on Chris when he sang a song from 1999 during the "Songs of this Decade" week?

Are you going to call "slimy" on Paris's birth year choice?
Yes. There are hundreds and hundreds of songs released each year, and dozens and dozens of them make the charts. I can only suspect the motives of choosing an outlier like that.

An update of the "last minute".

Last minute meant Wednesday not the beginning of the calendar week but the beginning of the rehersal week. Taylor had his perfermance song for his rehersal and taping with David Foster and Andrea Bocelli which was on Thursday. It turned out that the last minute wasn't really as last minute as the message boards made it out to be.

I am disappointed that Taylor didn't choose a more current song and I also think that the song that he did choose really should be untouchable. I can't wait to see him do his first song though! It should be extremely entertaining!!!

I do think that a lot of people will feel the same way that Bicker does.
