wow...i think i'm just really in denial :rotfl:

ah well...at the end of the day, you're probably not going to see many people walking around center city in cowboy hats and spurs. :p i guess that's all i was trying to say.
Country is real big in our area and I very rarely see anyone dressed like that. Geesh, do you think that we all ride horses too? :confused3

i have cousins in the south who wear cowboy hats :confused3 here, i NEVER see anyone dressed like that. although i happen to own one. (i wore it to a bar once - the bouncer was so taken aback by it that he tried to keep me out of the bar. he thought that i was wearing it as a "disguise" to hide my age and that i must be using a fake ID. i wasn't)

the point i was trying to make is that the culture in downtown philadelphia is different than many parts of the south. the people i personally know in the south listen to country music. the people i personally know in philadelphia do not. when i drive through NC visiting my cousins or even though orlando i hear a lot of country music on the radio. in philly i only hear a couple of stations playing that kind of music. america is all one nation, but there are lots of differences between the cultures of the states and even cities and towns within it. so, i happen to believe that in some parts of america, carrie & josh get more airplay than in others because there are more people in those parts of the country listening to country music. that's all i am trying to say. i hope that is clear now. i wasn't trying to insult anyone. i am genuinely surprised that carrie & josh are doing well, i honestly would not have known that josh even had an album out if it weren't for these boards.

sorry this has gotten so OT. so, back to season five.....ummmm.....go elliot!!! :woohoo:

Couple things:

1 - Slamming Bucky then saying Elliott has the best voice left in the competition?!? :lmao: :lmao: Talk about losing credibility in a hurry. :teeth:

2 - Of the bottom three, I would have preferred Elliott going, as both of the other two have had "wow" performances at some point, and both have greater potential as singers than he does. But then, I'm still ticked that he completely murdered one of my favorite songs this week.

3 - Album sales through 11/27/05: (Unless otherwise noted...numbers courtesy of SoundScan)
Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway [11-30-04] - 4,967,823 (as of 03-21-06)
Clay Aiken - Measure of a Man [10-14-03] - 2,729,966
Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts [11-15-05] - 2,456,660 (as of 03-21-06)
Kelly Clarkson - Thankful [04-15-03] - 2,429,700 (as of 01-24-06)
Ruben Studdard - Soulful [12-09-03] - 1,776,999
Fantasia - Free Yourself [11-23-04] - 1,658,130 (as of 01-03-06)
Clay Aiken - Merry Christmas With Love [11-16-04] - 1,151,000 (as of 12-20-05)
Josh Gracin - Josh Gracin [06-15-04] - 584,888
Bo Bice - The Real Thing [12-13-05] - 572,443 (as of 03-21-06)
Ruben Studdard - I Need an Angel [11-23-04] - 428,204
Kimberly Locke - One Love [05-04-04] - 207,841

Justin Guarini - Justin Guarini [06-10-03] - 142,130
Tamyra Gray - Dreamer [05-25-04] - 121,822
LaToya London - Love and Life [09-20-05] - 41,348 (as of 01-03-06)
R J Helton - Real Life [03-23-04] - 21,227
John Stevens - Red [06-28-05] - 16,708
George Huff - My Christmas EP [11-09-04] - 16,278
Jasmine Trias - Jasmine Trias [07-12-05] - 12,025
George Huff - Miracles [10-11-05] - 8,264
Constantine Maroulis/PFTSOB - Pray For the Soul of Betty [05-10-05] - 7,467
Jim Verraros - Rollercoster [04-26-05] - 2,680
Corey Clark - Corey Clark [06-21-05] - 2,142
Carmen Rasmussen - Carmen [11-23-04] - no total available

Now...tell me again how Josh Gracin is more successfull than Clay Aiken ? :teeth:

Nice to see numbers but i still only hear Kelly, Carrie and Josh on the radio....I have yet to hear a single Clay Aiken song but I listen to country and pop stations....Josh is headed for his 3rd straight top 5 single and is doing well and from my experience getting more airplay....

I missed the show last night, got caught up with Lost, and wasn't really too surprised to hear this morning that Mandisa was Kicked off. Yes, she has a better voice than Katherine IMO, but that Outfit she was wearing was BAD!! :sad2: She should have stayed in her black outfits, covering the hips and such. :guilty: However, to know that Elliot was in the bottom 3 didn't surprise me either. I think he will be going next week. ;)

It shouldn't have anything to do with clothes cause if it did Kathrine would have been long gone. :goodvibes

i don't think anyone posted this yet - there was some article in the news this morning that paula was assaulted at a party over the weekend
http://www.comcast.net/tv/index.jsp?cat=TELEVISION&fn=/2006/04/06/362567.html&cvqh=itn_abdul
Anyway the part i found interesting is that they say "Last week, she signed a deal to remain on the show for another three years." So I guess she'll be sticking around! So much for the 'paula is fired' rumours

I heard that on my radio news this morning. Almost sounds like damage control to me. I also heard that Mandisa had to apologize because there were complaints from some in the gay community over her comments made before her song 2 weeks ago. That is the one where before she sang she made some statement about, and I'm paraphrasing here, "for those that want to be free from addictions, lifestyles....you think it is bigger than you but God is bigger" The gay community took her choice of the word lifestyle to be anti-gay. She apologized and said her choice of words was more about her, that she has made bad lifestyle choices and been addicted to food. (again paraphrasing because I can't remember her exact statement) I'm going to see if I can find the actual stroy somewhere.

I don't think Mandisa got voted off because of the way she looks or dresses. She was voted off for her lack luster past two performances. The way she dresses is a separate issue (for me anyway). Her outfits are innapropriate for a woman her size. She's is still beautiful.

PS, I'm in No. Carolina and I don't hear Carrie or Josh in Walmart or the grocerie store. I DO hear Clay and Kelly. I NEVER listen to country stations at home so I have no idea what's being played there.

Was that this past weekend??? Gee, if she had a concussion and spinal injuries, then how was she able to get out of her chair and dance? I guess she was feeling better?? Either that the pain medication was working great!

I like Paula and really do feel bad for all the bad publicity she gets. But it does help the ratings.

A DJ on the radio station that I listen to has a theory that Paula is using this assault to cover up her addiction. After Paula's bizarre behavior Tuesday during the show, she thinks that Paula will claim to have had to take pain meds due to her head and spine injuries from the attack and that is what made her act bizarre. Then, she will eventually end up in rehab for her addiction to that pain medicine. She thinks it's all a ploy so that Paula can get the help that she obviously needs all the while looking like the victim. I think this DJ is probably dead on with her theory.

It doesn't matter what week it happened in..every week she has been up and dancing, clapping hands ov er her head etc. When my back hurts I can't even stand up straight in the shower much less dance and that is after taking my muscle relaxers.

Thats actually happened twice that I can think of (Josh and Clay in AI2) and I think it happened last season too (For some reason I think Anthony was one of them)

Ruben and Josh both sang Baby I need your lovin during Motown week Season 2.

Clay and Josh both sang To Love Somebody during BeeGee's week (the week Josh was voted off).

Carrie and Anthony both sang the same song the week Anthony was voted off.

Hoenstly I thought her comments were about drugs and an anti drug message, addictive lifestyles being about DRUGS. It would never, ever occur to me that the way she said it implied any anti gay messege at all. I just see it as a non issue that's being blown way up.

In my Store (Publix) via MUZAK--piped in music. KELLY/CLAY/KIMBERLE--I thought all this time it was Faith Hill singing that song. :confused3 :rotfl: I also hear Michael Buble/Cyndi Lauper/Faith and Tim/Harry Connick/and some Rod Stewart. :thumbsup2 NO Rueben/Fantasia. :confused3

They play Fantasia ALL the time on certain radio stations here in Detroit. Don't hear Ruben, but heard he's into gospel music now. I also hear Kelly & Clay a lot in stores & restaurants.

And you'd be right. Mandisa said in an interview how saddened she was when she found out some people thought she meant the gay lifestyle by those comments. The addictive lifestyle she had actually been referring to was her own addiction to food. Since AI though, she has lost 30 pounds is trying to learn to eat better. Good for her.

i think mandisa is a beautiful girl and its good she is tryign to fix her problem but i do not understand why everyone thinks she has such a great voice. yea she can belt out high notes but would you enjoy listening to her sing a soft soothing song, where her natural voice stands alone. that to me is a good voice, when someone can sing softly and understated and still wow you and can also belt out the high notes. that is why i feel she got voted off. her past two songs exposed her flaws tremendously.
