American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

i think this might be a regional thing. Kelly obviously is EVERYWHERE, but in our area, i haven't heard a single PEEP from Carrie or Josh since their seasons of Idol ended...Clay I have heard on the radio. This is not a big area for country music at all, so maybe that's why. Or maybe I just don't watch enough MTV :confused3 Personally, I know maybe 2 people who are really into country music (other than my relatives in NC). You just don't hear a lot of it around here. I'm from Connecticut originally and - I kid you not - country music was forbidden in my house growing up! :rotfl: my dad HATES it!

It's just the opposite here. I hear Carrie Underwood playing in Walmart, the grocery store, I've even heard her at the convenience store. My co-workers wife went nuts when she left her CU CD in a rental car and her husband had to drive to Nashville to retrieve it, over 60 miles from where they live. My DD9 and her friends all have the CD.

You're not kidding! I thought Paris was great last night but I just listened to her mp3, yikes! Now I see why some people were saying pick a note.

Bucky sounded a lot better too, I had no trouble understanding what he was saying listening to the mp3.

::yes:: the mp3s sound so different. that's how i realized how much i liked elliott. i listened to his mp3s and was completely blown away, even by performances i didn't like as much when i watched them on TV. weird :confused3

Interesting!! What part of the country are you from? I haven't heard anything from Carrie in stores/on radio around here - I had no idea she had much success until I started reading about it on these boards. I did see Bo on TV the other day, though.

I agree with you. Bucky sounds so much better also on the MP3's then live - I think it's the loudness of the band live.

So sensitive? :confused3 Curious!

I never pegged you for one of those "dish it out but can't take it" kinds.

Those who live by the sword die by the sword, didn't you know that?

:rotfl: Hardly. :teeth: I simply found it hilarious that someone would directly insult me (a childish behavior) by calling me childish (excuse me, "high school"-ish. ) I don't know who you are or who you think you are, but insults are kinda frowned on around here, so you may want to simply lighten up and quit acting like...well...I won't say like what, for fear of crossing that same line.

Now, if we could please just return to the talk about the show. :thumbsup2

That's strange because I'm right down the Turnpike and she's all over the place!! In fact, I just heard Some Hearts on the soft rock channel on my way into work today. Not to mention Jesus Take the Wheel every single time I scan the channels. :) I don't mind it cause I really like her, I'm guessing Pittsburgh's more "country" than Philly :confused3 Who know!! :)

Oh, and I was sad to see Mandisa go, but as long as Chris is still in, I'm ok with that.

It's not just regional, it's cultural and personal preference. I hear Fantasia and Ruben ALL of the time because I listen to R&B and Gospel stations at home and in my car. I hear Kelly all of the time because I can only get lite music at the office. I have NEVER heard a Josh Gracin or Carrie U song on the radio and rarely hear Clay.

All American Idols return to their "roots" and their demographics when they go back to the "real world". What is good about the show is they expose people to certain genres they won't necessarily tune into.

I don't doubt for a second that I will hear from Mandisa again. She has an awesome singing voice and yes, I think she was killed not only by the song that night but that AWFUL outfit. It just was so unappealing on her.... it was also VERY distracting! What is up with these stylists, anyway?????? :confused3

Oh and btw, my Mom LOVED country music! I grew up on all the classics and ended up HATING all of it except Dollie Parton, Patsy Cline and Kenny Rogers.

Wouldn't it been easier just to go out and buy a new CD? :confused3

After listenig to Queen's greatest hits album I must agree that not only would Bucky probably do "Fat Bottom Girl's" well...it's the ONLY song he can sing.

I'm in California. Carrie and Josh Gracin are always on the country radio stations.

:guilty: :guilty: :guilty: I'm sorry Mandisa...I let you down by forgetting to vote the other night. I just thought you would be okay....

I would buy anything Mandisa sang...right now.

Sorry, I disagree with you.

I agree, with Mandisa's faith and voice, I expect to see a gospel album within the next year and a half...and I will buy it. Whoever chose her outfits must not like big women. The clothes were so distracting they took away from her performance. In this genre, that hurt.

I was going to post the exact same thing. I couldn't vote but certainly would have if I could have. The bashing against Josh was similar to that against Ace this year. Pretty boy, only getting by because of his looks and the fact that he is in the military. I'm so glad to hear he is proving everyone wrong.

The difference between the two of them is that Josh could sing. :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, gotta agree about Mandisa's outfits. I personally have no problem with them. I think she's beautiful, her smile can light up a room and if she's secure enough in herself to wear those outfits more power to her! But Dh, who loves him some big girl, said she looked awful! This is the guy who encouraged me to wear a bikini when I weighed over 300#, so it's gotta be bad!! I didn't really see it though.

I think Mandisa's age had more to do with her demise than her size.

true, i don't listen to country or r&b or gosepl radio. but i also don't hear carrie or josh in department stores/gas stations/grocery stores/clothing stores/etc either. i don't think philly has a big country market.
someone else said they do hear those artists a lot in pittsburgh...maybe i'm just really out of it :confused3

Since everyone is talking about the former Idols they hear on the radio, I was really shocked the other day when I was at the bookstore and heard Diana DeGarmo.

I heard Carrie for the first time on the radio the other day. My mom turned it off because she cannot stand Carrie and thinks she can't sing. But then again to her, nobody but Josh Groban can...
