American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

You can probably find the Rob Thomas on Limewire.

I think Chris can break out of his element just fine. He did awesome on the Keith Urban song.

I'm not having any luck tonight, but I seem to remember when I saw him perform it, it was for a benefit, maybe for Katrina relief? They seem to have it well protected..lol.I will try to get my sister on it tomorrow-she's more of a music geek than I am. But rest easy-you were not imagining it..lol. It was awesome.
That's what I've been able to dig up so far too. ReAct Now was the name of the concert -- Katrina relief -- simulcast on MTV, VH1, and some other channel. I can't find a download of it anywhere!

I'm going to check Limewire next.

A few weeks ago, when the Stewart/Great American Songbook spoiler came out, I went onto iTunes and listened to clips of every single song. May just be my youngin' years, but all songs were boring and sounded the same. Not looking foward to this week.

I agree and I'm 40. Not really enjoying this season.

I think Sawyer Brown got their big break on Star Search quite a while ago. It would be like passing the torch.

Sawyer Brown...I didn't even know they were still a group, it's been AGES since they have been played on the radio. I used to like Sawyer Brown.

I think Elliott is going to own this week followed by Katharine. Both have the kind of voice those songs will be good to.

Time to rank your top seven:

1. Elliott: Great voice in a genre that desperately needs a new star. The best voice in the competition.
2. Taylor: The most unique talented person Idol has ever had.
3. Chris: There are a lot like him, but he does what he does very well.
4. Paris: Great voice and personality, her singing isn't very exciting.
5. Katharine: Great voice, seems kinda "moody" to put it nicely, very boring performance wise.
6. Ace: Good personality, bad song choice, halfway decent voice, very wimpy.
7. Kellie: Attempting to fool a nation into thinking she's the dumbest person in the world, average voice, no stage presence, should have been long gone before Mandisa and it's a joke that people like Elliott and Katharine have been in the bottom three before her.

1. Chris: The best overall. He's got stellar talent, and is the most likely to be able to forge the most successful career as a recording artist.

2. Katherine: Great voice, stunningly beautiful, very marketable.

3. Taylor: Very entertaining. The most likely person to be this year's "Constantine" -- i.e., successful, but just not as a recording artist.

4. Kellie: Good voice, especially in her element. I don't mean to dis Country, but it seems to me that it is easier to be a great Country singer than a great Pop singer.

5. Paris: One day, she'll be great.

6. Elliott: Great voice, but not someone I think many people would purchase albums for or concert tickets for.

7. Ace: A pretty face, a nice guy, good voice. Maybe he'll get some walk-on roles on some sitcoms.

I'm not asking who you think would sell CDs, or who is more beautiful, I'm asking who is the best/your favorite.

My favorite has nothing to do with whether or not my friends would buy the CD, just about whether I would buy it.

I'm done voting but I'll go ahead and rate who I like best out of this rather mediocre group.

1. Taylor - just fun and I think he might be able to translate that fun into song.
2. Chris - limited but he's very good at his specialty.
3. Elliott - pleasant and nice to listen to
4. Katherine - good voice but bland style and presentation
5. Ace - I like him at times and at other times not so much
6. Paris - eh, I don't care for her at all
7. Kellie - bland singer who can't compare to the best in country. Would do better in pop I imagine.

I don't agree that a country song is easier to sing than a pop song. Most of the contestants were blah at best during country week because they really don't know how to sing the genre. I think that anyone with a decent voice could do a passable job with most pop. Now, rock is another matter and jazz, blues and a few other genres seem hardest of all.

I am. :) American Idol is all about finding the next big pop star.

My ranking:

1. Katharine - From the very beginning, she's been my favorite. How I'd love for an American Idol to put out a jazz cd. Plus, I DO think she has stage prescence and I think she's fun to watch.
2. Taylor - Different and can sing, too. Have you heard his songs he released before Idol? They're really good and if they're any indication of the kind of cd he'd put out, I'd buy it in a second.
3. Elliott - Personally, I can't stand to look at him when he sings, BUT, I think he's got a great voice and just needs to work on his facial expressions.
4. Chris - I would've ranked him higher, but I've grown tired of him now. I mean, he's got a good rock voice and he does have a commanding stage prescence, but lately, he's just been blah.
5. Paris - I don't hate her nearly as much as some others do on these boards. If she just sang, I'd like her even more, but since I have to listen to her talk, she gets bumped down a spot.
6 and 7. Ace and Kellie - Take your pick. Both are awful, in my opinion. I know why Ace is still in this (the hot guy factor, I guess) and while I don't think Kellie's unattractive, her ditzy personality is a turn-off to me (but that kind of personality in any girl makes me run). Plus, neither of them can sing. Sorry, but Ace is simply sub-par boy-band and Kellie is low-rung country.

Just my opinion...

Here's my rankings and why:

Taylor - He's different and I really think he has the best voice of all of the male contestants left.

Katharine - Has the best voice of all remaining contestants but lacks something.

Chris - Great in his genre but I don't really enjoy that genre.

Elliott - Great singer but I think he tries to turn everything into R&B - also not my favorite genre. He would ruin the National Anthem. (My husband and I hate it when singers turn the Anthem into a series of rifs - if that's the right word).

Ace - Too pretty-boy and nervous. Not that talented.

Paris/Kellie - Dislike them both equally. One is too childish (I know she is just a child, but I can't relate to her) and one is proud to be an idiot.

My rankings:

Chris - though I see him fronting a band more than being a solo performer. He's great on his own, but put him with an awesome band - he'll rock!
Taylor - though I'm afraid of what the AI label would turn him into.
Paris - she won me over when she sang Beyonce's "Work it Out".
Katherine - not my favorite. She's got a beautiful voice, but she's dull.
Kellie - don't like her, but she'll do great in the country market. Something tells me though that we'll be seeing her again on a sitcom, not music.
Elliott - I like him. Not much else I can really think of.
Ace - he is too nervous, too unsure of himself - but he's got that great falsetto...I think in a studio he'll turn out a great CD.

I'm done voting also but I will continue to watch the show until the end. Here's how I rank the remaining contestants:

1. Chris - I'm a rocker and I think he has the best voice out of who's left.
2. Taylor - not into his style but think he's talented.
3. Katherine - think she's very talented and will do well on Broadway.
4. Elliott - no opinion
5. Paris - no opinion
6. Kellie - she's just ok to me
7. Ace - I've only liked two of his performances this season

I think Ace is next to go home unless someone else really bombs tomorrow night.

I am really hoping Ace has a great performance, and Paris goes home before him.
I know he won't go much further, but I like his voice (though I have been disappointed several times by his performances).

I was talking about AI with my sister and some of her friends yesterday and one of them said she was very upset that Carrie Underwood won last year because she continually forgot her lyrics. Well, I'm not a huge Carrie Underwood fan (I wanted Bo or Constantine to win), but I don't remember that about her! This girl said that Simon was constantly telling her that if she didn't start remembering her lyrics she would blow her chance to win the show. She continued to say that for this reason she thinks the show is "fixed" from the beginning. That the powers that be choose the winner from the start and control the call ins in order for that person to win. Well...I don't know about all that, but I still don't remember CU forgetting her lyrics. Does anyone else?

jamie, i see you like nashville star. i think that show is run waybetter than AI and the talent is so much better..i also think chris young will win...and i dont remember carrie underwood forgetting lyrics last season..AI winner will either be chris or taylor...but i like elliots voice the best, he just doesnt have the whole package! wouldnt that be funny AI's winner and Nashville Stars winner are both chris's..
