American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Overall the show was "lacking". It's nothing like previous years where we all said "WOW"...that was a GREAT performance. The only person this season to give us that feeling was Mandisa.

With that said, I still voted 10 times for Katherine. I didn't vote last week for Chris and am paying the price for it.

First time I heard Taylor sing this season I told DH that I would love to hear him sing "You Are So Beauitful". I got my wish and he was as awesome as I thought he'd be.

Thought Kat did great singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

Elliot, I think, sings well. He looks like he has a dip of snuff between his gum and lips all the time because of the shape of his mouth but that can be fixed. He just has a really narrow mouth and crowded teeth. Fixing that would change him drastically IMHO.

I think that each one could win though.

I loved Taylor, all 3 songs. :thumbsup2

I thought Katharine's Over the Rainbow was beautiful, really amazing. I thought she had the finals locked after it but I really hated her last song, I thought it was a terrible choice and I was so disappointed.

I thought Elliot had 3 good performances but the songs choices didn't thrill me.

I think Taylor did great but he didn't totally amaze me. He's still my favorite though.

I find it interesting that Kat sings best when she's sitting or laying on the floor. I think she needs more practice in controlling her voice.

Elliot really needed to shine tonight and I don't think he did. It'll be a close race for second place between him and Kat. No contest for the winner of AI - go Taylor!!!

I've like Taylor from the first minute I set eyes/ears on him. GO TAYLOR!!!

Sadly, I think Elliott is going home tomorrow. I like both him and Kat, but I wouldn't be too upset to loose either of them.

I am so mad! I have to work next week, both nights until 9:30 pm! Which means I don't get home until close to 10:00pm. All season long I have tried (except for the audition shows) to work my schedule around these shows, but next week I just can't do it. All I can say is my kids better tape it for me and keep the show. Between that and missing hockey games, I am really hating my job next week.

Well if that happens, I'll be voting for Kat next week. I don't like Taylor at all.

This is my first post on this thread but I'm so mad right now. I tried for TWO SOLID hours to get in votes for Elliott and did not get in a vote until 11:00 p.m. and only got in ONE vote.
This is the first time I have had this happen. Usually I get in at least 20-30 calls during the time, but nothing from the land line or cell line. That is with 3 of us trying as well (2 cell and 1 land)
:( Frustrating to say the least.

I thought Kat did well and I really like her. I have been voting for Elliott as well as others each week since he's a hometown guy (and I loved all of the hoopla around here last week when he came home.)
Elliott, regardless of his looks, is a WONDERFUL and talented singer. I wish him well.

I thought Taylor looked spastic this week. He is good at some songs, but is very limited in his range. He reminds me of Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers) in his sound. I did not like his rendition of You are so Beautiful (But everyone has their own opinions--I personally did not like it.)
I wasn't WOWed by any of them this week (although I though Kat's Over the Rainbow was great.)

Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow night.

I agree, I liked Kat & Taylor the first time I heard them sing. Even before they went to Califorina. Elliot was fine, but I think Kat will be 2nd and Taylor 1st.

OMG!

Just finished watching! Kat brought tears to my eyes with her renditon of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

She is fantastic!!!!!

:cheer2: Go Kat :cheer2:

Ok, this is going to look way out of place in the thread since you guys are all chatting about the show right now.

Looks like about 5 minutes until showtime here on the West Coast sooo...
I'll bite.

We all recognize that there many different opinions here. That's a good thing.

But most people understand that their opinion is just that, an opinion. Most often they frame it as such in their posts.
When your opinion is framed as a statement of fact it puts anyone who disagrees with you in a defensive position from the get go.

My opinion is that Elliott has the most vocal ability of any performer left in the competition. (Obviously you and a lot of other folks disagree)
Even so, I wouldn't presume to say he is the most talented.
A lot of things play into talent as a performer and there is a TON of room for subjectivity as well.

It's all a matter of respecting different opinions.

I'm not invested enough in any of the performers to get too upset about anything said about them here - but some people are.

And I do get tired of the name calling and really negative comments. Especially when it's the same thing about the same person over and over and over again.

We get that you don't like Elliott. Really. ;)

OK, I'm off to watch the show now. Carry on.

Are you making a dig at me???....bring it on buddy.... :rotfl:

Oh did I mention I dont like Elliott too much but I did give him some praise last week....

very well put Cat's Mom.

I got the impression that everyone should quit voting since "the dolphin" made his prediction.... :stir:

Are you talking to me??? :rotfl2:

My crystal ball says Taylor has already won....tune in next week just to see what he sings.....Now although if Kat is in the Finals and she wins I will not be upset one bit...Now Elliott if he is there and wins well yall know

Looking at DialIdols busy percent numbers it seems like Katharine's fans are doing just what Chris's fans did last week - voting predominantly off of the first line and not so much on the second. Taylor's 2 lines are solidly together, Elliott's 2 lines are solidly together but Katharine's lines are broken by Elliott. It goes Kat #1, Elliott #1, Elliott #2, Kat #2. If her third line is being ignored even more than line 2, she could be in trouble!

We purposely only dialed the 09 number for Taylor since DialIdol was running 03 and 06 - we only got through the 09 number 52 times in 2 hours with 2 phones constantly voting. And the bulk of that was recorded in the last 15 minutes. Hopefully that means Taylor's fans are staying strong on all 3 of his lines. :)

Dan, I don't believe they're referring to you. (I believe It's the name calling on page 454 cat'smom is referring to)

Dont worry if they were I didnt get upset about it...Its all in good fun to me....I try not to call anyone names though...I have been guilty one time though about Elliott but have stopped....I dont like his voice but I respect what he is doing....Partially deaf, Diabetes....gotta support the way he is overcoming all that but like I said I dont like his voice.....and I like to ruffle feathers a bit just to make it fun

Loved Chris on Ellen, just wish they wouldn't have cut it in the end...ughh..oh well i think Elliott is going home tomorrow..or shall i say tonite :)

Mandisa may be the only one to give YOU that feeling.

I have felt MANY great moments. Chris has given me at least a dozen. Taylor a few, Katherine gave me a great feeling with Black Horse and Cherry Tree. And my girl Kellie even had a great song or two. I also thought Mandisa had a few great moments too.

The ONLY person this year who "I" never felt a great performance was from was Chicken Little.

I do not like Elliott at all, but still, I admit, he has had a few great performances.

Actually it was a response to wvrevy from several pages back.
Not a dig at anyone, just trying to give a direct answer to a specific question (which I included in my original post) that he asked.

I made no reference to you at all, but if I had and you felt the need to call me out... bring it on lady would be more appropriate.

Back to the show discussion -

I've watched most of this season, but have not done much voting. Just have not connected strongly enough with anyone to take the time.

But DD voted last week and I helped her cast a few tonight.
I guess she got quite a few busy signals for both Chris & Elliott last week.

This week, with the three numbers, it was easy to get through here.
Hardly ever got a busy signal... and I even called for Taylor a time or two to test it out. :teeth:
Don't tell DD THAT though, she would pitch a fit! :rolleyes1
(we're not Taylor fans)

Sorry, OT again but back to the Suns (who are in their 2nd overtime right now) Yikes!
Trying to spot DH & DS in the crowd and gotta cheer on the guys!

Go PHOENIX SUNS!

Just watched tonight's episodes and I was a little disappointed. Even my Elliott did not dazzle me. He is still my favorite though. I did like Kat's Over the Rainbow. Taylor, my word, I thought he sounded bad tonight. I was very surprised at the judges' positive responses to Taylor's songs. Usually I agree with their critiques, but not tonight!

It was very easy to get through to vote. I waited until the last half hour and got through for Elliott probably 70% of the itmes I tried. Not sure if that was a good thing though.
