I think we can all agree Joey was the worst tonight
How many leave tonight?
LOLNot enough of them!
Australia checking in at the top 24 stage. Idol telecast is running on Friday night here with both episodes back to back. I sure hope there is some talent this year; otherwise it's going to be very long Friday nights.
Here's my take on the performances:
- Adam - What an insane performance. Just like his hair!
- Michael - Did I see it right? This is Michael Bolton??? He sure sings like Michael Bolton. Sadly, I find both Michael Boltons B-O-R-I-N-G!
- Savion - Pleasant elevator music. Sadly, he didn't press any buttons for me and failed to get me off the ground level.
- Mark Andrew - Solid performance. But Adam's hair wins by a half-head.
- Trevor Douglas - Clark Kent style glasses but his voice proves he's no superman.
- Clark Beckham - Bend.it.like.Beckham, Clark!! You sure hit some notes tonight.
- Rayvon - Meh. Moving right along.
- Daniel Seavey - The cutey-pie baby sings the cutesy pie song. I bet a lot of the teenie bopper Idol fans will vote for him.
- Riley - Home Boy is not a home run for me.
- Quinn Alexander - The guys with 2 first names and big hair are in vogue this year. The second real performance of the night for me. Lose the nose ring.
- Nick F - Yawn.
- Qaasim Middlton - Entertaining way to end the first half.
The Girls next.
- Lovey - I'm not lovey this performance at all.
- Adanna and Alexis or was that Alexis and Adanna??? - Watching Back to Back shows and I'm totally losing interest now. The first 3 girls are not wowing me at all.
- Joey - The first girl to make me look up. Joey by name, Skippy by nature. Whilst I loved the quirkiness, I'm pretty sure middle America is not going to keep you around for long. Shame really.
- Katherine - Back to snoozing.
- Shannon - I should be falling asleep except I can hear how pitchy you are.
- Loren - It is getting to be a long show. All I can think is "awful".
- Shi - The only girl so far to give Adam a run for his hair. Wrong song!
- Maddie - WOW! The girls really are terrible, aren't they? Maybe its going to be a loooong season afterall.
- Sarina Joi - A joy to listen to given the talent to date. I wonder how she will stack up when the girls and the boys finally get to mix?
- Jax - I liked what she did. The question is....will she be a solid competitor against the boys?
- Tyanna - Big hair really is in vogue this year. Nice way to end the girls with a bit of redemption singing from Tyanna.
I sure hope some of the girls improve. Otherwise, we'll be in for a boy winner this year.
The girls are not very strong this year... I wonder if it has to do with their ages? It seems like there were a lot more teenagers than there have been in past seasons. I feel like you can tell that nobody really has adopted a "lane" yet - they're all over the place. I'm actually surprised at how nice/easy Harry was - he is usually pretty tough. It always makes me wonder what the sound is like in the room, vs. the TV feed.
(I actually kind of like Joey... don't boo me!)
An Aging Viewer: The aging of the viewer on prime time broadcast network television has been prevalent for a number of years. American Idol has not been an exception. Despite an age cap of 28 on contestants, according to Nielsen, the median age for the reality show has risen each season from 31.9 in 2002 to 51.2 in 2013. As a result the Adult 18-49 rating, a popular demographic for advertisers, was 3.8 in 2013, the lowest ever recorded in one season. As a result the advertising rate for American Idol has dropped. According to Advertising Age annual survey, the cost for a :30 ad on Wednesday’s Performance Show has dropped from over $500,000 in 2012 to about $356,000 for this season.
On FOX, American Idol earned a 2.6, down two tenths from last week's 2.8 adults 18-49 rating. Empire earned a 5.3, up a tenth from last week's 5.2 adults 18-49 rating, rising again for the seventh consecutive week and setting yet another series high. Empire's Live + Same Day rating this week is the highest of any regular broadcast drama sinceGrey’s Anatomy in September 2010. In addition, Empire has grown more than any other new broadcast drama in over a decade (since House in 2004).
That is great! My older Son did the CP twice, an Internship, then worked a few more years at the Grand Floridian. Resumes always got an immediate follow up call until the last recession. Most employers figure if you are good enough to work for Disney, they should hire you.Way off topic here, but I need to do a Mom brag.
My youngest daughter just got accepted into the Disney College program. She'll be there in September and is working food and beverage...just no idea what yet. She is a nutrition science major so hopefully this will look good on the old resume'.
