American Idol Season 14 Official Thread

I agree the boys as a whole were better, but I liked a lot of the girls. Joey's quirkiness is cute to me. Do I think she is going to make it to the top 10? No, but still interesting to watch. They are all so young, so I do see some potential there. Pulling for Jax, you can tell she wants to be a Rockstar! Teyanna was great, and hope she stays in for the long haul. I guess I would be in the oldest demographics for watching this show, so I understand them bringing the ages of the contestants down a bit.

....Maddie is really adorable and she has a decent voice, but her performance reminded me of a beauty pageant performance.

Way off topic here, but I need to do a Mom brag.

My youngest daughter just got accepted into the Disney College program. She'll be there in September and is working food and beverage...just no idea what yet. She is a nutrition science major so hopefully this will look good on the old resume'.
....kewl beans! My DS is a nutrition major at our community college and wants to continue his education at Rutgers; he also wanted to apply for the DC program. Did the fact that your DD is a nutrition science major help? Also, how far in advance did she apply, or did the college help her with that?

TIA

It's funny because she graduates in May, so she found out that as long as you were still in school when you applied you could do the program after graduating..so last minute she just decided to apply. A few days later she got the email stating they wanted to interview. She had the interview the next week and then not even a month later got the congratulations. Her college (Ohio State) didn't help, but maybe going there helped? I know she said the interview was quick because they were behind schedules due to computer issues so they didn't ask any of the questions that she prepped for. She is excited and so is everyone else except her father. He is not a fan of Disney and thinks this is a waste of time. Not sure if her major helped..or the fact that she has been working at an assisted living facility in food prep when she is home and also volunteers at OSU Medical Center while at school. I'm thinking it is like everything else, it is where they need to fill positions for that particular session.

....thanks for the info....I'll be sure to pass it along to my DS....

Let him know there is a lot of information and resources on line. That is how she found out about the kinds of questions they ask and had answers ready.

Okay Idol news time, I'm a few days behind on this and I blame hockey season on that

  • The “Judges Save” will return.
  • There will be celebrity mentors including “one of our most famous Idols…and it’s a woman.”
  • The eliminations will not happen at the top of the show. Kinane says they’ve got the process all figured out: “We’re not going to have the elimination at the top of the show because that’s really depressing. There’s a couple of ways of doing it; when [you get to the point in the season where] the kids do two songs each, around Top 6, we’ll be changing the method slightly because it’s not right to make somebody sing a song when you know they’re already out.”
  • On mentor Scott Borchetta: “Scott doesn’t want to screw this up. He wants to get a star at the end of this. He’s very ambitious. He loves the purity of the Idol process — taking raw kids and working with them and helping them develop. He’s passionate about that. He’s putting in huge amounts of time, much more than I was even expecting. “
  • Scott has been spending so much time with the kids, there aren’t enough hours in the show to feature all of it. Look for some of the footage to be posted online
  • Scott will live in Los Angeles for the entirety of the live show phase. He’s already talking to the kids about song choices for week 3.
  • Kinane says Idol has seen an uptick this year in teen viewers.
  • Idol vs The Voice: “The Voice is a good show. It’s a game show. It has that sort of angle to it, which makes it different. That’s why I think there’s room for both Idol and The Voice in the market. That’s about it, but there is room for that.” Pretty much sums up my opinion on the subject.
  • On authenticity and avoiding gimmicks: “Everything has to have authenticity. I don’t know if your readers have reacted… but we’re not putting the bad [singers] in front of the judges in the way we used to 14 years ago, just for a laugh. It was hilarious in the beginning, but that started to get a bit annoying to me. Still, it’s nice to have humor in the show.” Kinane says they showed a few bad singers during the bits they did at the producers’ tables at the cattle calls because that would be the more natural place to do it. Kinane says, “it seems manipulative to let the [terrible singers] keep going and then put them in front of the judges.”
That's the summary from MJ's blog, here's the actual link to the article http://tvline.com/2015/02/25/american-idol-season-14-changes-top-24-scott-borchetta/

I just finished semi watching.....I loved Adam and liked Mark and Quinn? (nose ring guy). Not loving any of the girls.

My husband and I couldn't believe how bad the girls were. Maybe a few decent ones. The shame is that overall the boys were so much better so 4 decent boys will go home and at least 4 terrible girls will stay. I don't like the having to keep the boys and girls even right now. It should go by who is better period

Turned off the girls, just couldn't take it any more. The guys are far stronger. Too bad they have to keep everything even...even DH said that the guys are the best as a bunch as he's seen on Idol over the years. The gals, not so much.

Idol spoilers on Twitter posted the eliminated guys for tonight. Umm some surprised me. I'll post songs in a bit!

Eta: so if I post the songs it will show whose eliminated so I'm leaving the decision up to yall on what you want.

I'm okay with knowing who goes home a little early. Or if people don't wanna know who goes.

You might just post the songs and not who sings what/
