American Idol Season 13 Official Thread

I am so not into this season which stinks because I'm really happy with the choice of judges. I just don't think the talent is that great this year.

You know, I said the same thing to DH last night...like the judges....not so much the new talent. I think they went too young this year, except for the bar singer with the pink /red hair. For me, Caleb is the only star so far. Hoping someone will surprise me.

Sorry I missed the discussion last night. We went over to have cake & ice cream for my granddaughter's 14th birthday.

Still don't know where the show is headed this season. The only thing I enjoy is Keith Urban and Harry Connick.

J Lo wants to be a teenager still, but it's not working.

I don't think they will use the save at all because I don't think they will ever all agree on who to save.

Love myself some Jimmy! I died laughing when I found out we had the same birthday and were both born in Brooklyn. My son always said "he sounds like YOU!"

JUANY PABS!! :lmao::lmao:

…..Juany Pabs and Jimmy Eye-oh….sounds like extras from a lost episode of The Sopranos….

….hey, I got an email yesterday to purchase fix for Mamasox in concert!

True, but I also think they're looking good in part because of how bad everyone else is.

I think that's the case for me. I think they are the best of this lot and I look forward to their performances and never feel like fastforwarding through their songs but any other year, I'm not so sure I would really notice or care.

The other night when Caleb sang, I thought, that was okay, but he's no James Durbin.

Someone on FB said she's closer to FIFTY than she is to TWENTY so it's time to retire those shorts..:rotfl2: No offense, I remember when I retired mine, we all have to know what DAY it is!

But she looks great! I bet most of the young people who watch Idol don't even realize her age. If I didn't know her age, I would guess she's about 30.

As a red-blooded American male, I hope she doesn't retire those shorts any time soon. I say keep her in the shorts and put Miley Cyrus in more clothes :thumbsup2

Or maybe the rest are looking so bad because of how good they are. :smokin:

I think Caleb is so much better than Durbin, I know I did not like Durbin at all but I do like Caleb.

They should do an all star season for those who got booted or never quite made it to the stage or won. America should vote on the top 20 contestants they'd like to see and make a season of it.

That would be fun..hmmmmm, who to bring back for that kind of show?

I think a lot would start with Bo Bice and Adam Lambert, but I doubt Adam would come back, he doesn't need the show.

I think Bo and Adam are probably quite happy with their lives, even though I'd love to see them both again. Also, many of them are too old now. There just seem to be quite a few who made it to Hollywood but not any further that people really liked.

I didn't like Durbin either and I really like Caleb. I think Caleb needs to do a few more songs where he can really feel the lyrics. I felt a bit of a disconnect in his last couple of performances.

I found this article very interesting:

After reading the profiles I felt like I could understand the contestants more. It highlights the inexperience of some of them and explains why some aren't as polished on stage as others.

I still like AI more than The Voice because most of the contestants on The Voice seem to be pros who have already washed out of their first chance. And everybody over there seems to come with some sob story to explain why they want a career in music. That is a turn off.

I may be in the minority but I am entertained by several of the AI contestants this year. I like Sam a lot and don't get all of the criticism directed at him. His tone is beautiful and I don't think he ever sings off key. I don't think his style of music leads to that much expression on stage. Alex is really growing on me. I don't see that much expression on his face while singing either but no one ever criticizes him for that. The country connection in his profile was very interesting. Jo Dee Messina lives very close to me so Alex has spent time right down the road. Small world. Jessica has an interesting sound and she seems more polished than some of the others.

I am holding out hope for Majesty and CJ but they have had a couple of bad performances. Maybe there is still a chance.

I will duck now but I can't share in any of the Caleb love. He was very bad this last week and seemed very karaoke before that. He had a moment with Skyfall but that was it. He just isn't very current.

The Voice does harp on the sob stories a lot, that's why I dvr it and skip the stories. AI used to use the stories a lot, they've gotten away from them lately, people got tired of them.

AI has had quite a few performers who tried and didn't quite make it in the past, less than the Voice because the Voice doesn't have an age limit. I'm sure there would be more if they raised their limit, which I wish they would.

I will give it to the group that they are talented but the MOST talented they could find? :confused3 That I can't believe. I try my best to calculate in my head what they're trying to do but I'm still not sure. I know they want a male to win but I'm not sure if they want it to be Caleb, Alex or Sam. I think they're trying to see how it rolls out and who they think will be the most profitable. I personally think Alex is but he is not my personal favorite.

Good point about how the age limit influences the previous experience of the contestants.

One of the things I like about this year is that I can't really see the show's producers pulling for anyone contestant over the others yet. Knowing AI that will come. I think part of the ratings decline this year stems from the manipulation last year. They made it so obvious that they would not let a male win that a lot of people got fed up and left. What they are seeing now is that once people leave it is not easy to get them back.

I have just started watching the show and only one contestant stands out and that would be Caleb. The rest are not that good. Not American Idol's best year.

My DH watched AI last night and I half-listened to the contestants again in the background. It really is a very mediocre group this year, isn't it? Aside from Alex and Caleb, the rest all just merged into background noise for me.

On this week's performance, I won't be buying any music from any one of them.

How does one buy music from them? I can't find anything on iTunes..
