American Idol: Season 11 OFFICIAL thread!

That was a good year for talent. I thought either La Toya or Jennifer should have won. But Jennifer didn't fit their Idol look. :headache: Bet she does now.

If I remember correctly, there was a horrible storm in the Chicago area that knocked out power everywhere the week that Jennifer was voted off. They blamed that (at least in part) for the reason that she came in last.

She has lost the deer in the headlights look. Looks like she's slimmed down too.

I think she is so cute..and she's touring with good ones!

Lauren Alaina did look good. It is not my taste in music but she is definitely touring with a couple of very popular country acts. I have college age daughters (i'm officially old) and their friends are crazy about Luke Bryan. Lauren should be getting a lot of exposure on that tour. I hope it works out for her.

Is it wrong that I am almost 51 and I like this show? Whatever I'm gonna watch it antways! popcorn::

Sure hope not, since I'm also almost 51. I've been watching since Season 2.

This year I'm rooting for Jermaine on the boys side, and Jessica and Hollie on the girls. Jessica is so talented especially. I was glad to see Jeremy go home last night, as someone else said he was the weakest link. I'm afraid Jermaine won't last long simply because he does't look the part but wow does he have a beautiful voice.

I thought Lauren looked awful. She looked like she was 30; she looked tired, had too much eye makeup on and in less than one year-her innocence is gone. I guess one must give up their youth for fame. Too bad.

Lauren looked good, the outfit was something I see around here a lot with that age group on campus. Her hair had pink in it at the beginning of the tour and she's been getting great exposure with the Jason Aldean/Luke Bryan tour and next she has Sugarland.

Next week's guest performer is Daughtry

A little off topic (and because I never give up) but regarding the comments about Idol contestants who you actually hear on the radio, I occasionally hear Paul McDonald from last year on my favorite station. They play songs from when he was with High Tide Blues or the Grand Magnolias. Good stuff. I admit though that the typical AI viewer doesn't get this type of music. The best the show could do last year was to try and make him into a Rod Stewart retread.

By the way, I always have to thank Mandy on this thread for telling me to check out Nashville station Lightning 100. You can can listen to them online if you want to hear some fantastic new artists. The music they play is usually fantastic and thankfully different from what is played on Top 40.

Your welcome! Did you catch his video with his wife that he released? I'm sad he's left us for LA though.

I'm 54 and have been enjoying the show for 6 or 7 years now. :)

Aw, I thought she looked great!! She's lost weight and I loved her outfit and thought she looked very comfortable on stage. I have her album and love it. It's great she's getting to go on tour with a couple very popular country guys. :) I hope she does well.

What happened to the pretty, dark haired woman from last year or maybe the year before. She had the best voice that season and it was quite a shock that she was voted off with about 3-4 people left. I think she may have signed with someone - Jimmy Iovine? - right away or as soon as she was allowed. She dated the dancer from Dancing with the Stars for a short while. Has she been doing well careerwise?

As far as this year, my favorite is Hollie Cavanaugh. But I feel like the judges are really pushing Dienandre (sp?) and Jessica at us.

Pia released a single still working on album

Nope. They didn't deserve it, not one little bit.

The thing about Erika and Joshua not deserving to be in the bottom is that when they had the bottom 3 of BOTH the guys and girls, there's not really that many people to choose from. Half of the contestants were in the bottom last night. If it had just been the bottom 3 out of everyone maybe it would've been Elise, Jeremy and Shannon.

I was glad they decided to "save" Elise. Jeremy already had his second chance.

I also have Lauren's album and think it's pretty good. Didn't really think her performance last night was all that great though.

I agree about Jessica... she's the plant and preferred one of the year. Not liking all the pimping, I remember them doing that with David Archuleta and it backfired. :headache:

Theme for next week is....Songs from the Year they were born

That should be good. :) I hate it when they are forced to sing a specifiic person's song, like this week forcing the guys to sing Stevie Wonder and the girls to sing Whitney Houston.

I like it when they have a broader range of songs/artists to choose from.

I agree, this way we can see more what type of music they would choose for themselves (out of the approved library bought by Idol).

oh this should be a good week.
I love songs from the 80's and 90's. I always listen to the sirius stations for 80's and 90's :thumbsup2

Watch away..I'm older than you by a few years and I am addicted. My kids got me hooked when they were younger...now I can't stop and I don't think they watch anymore.

I like Jessica, but she needs to show me she can sing in her own age group range. I keep thinking she needs to get more "cutesy" if you know what I mean. I guess I keep thinking back to Britney and Christina when they were teens. I know Idol puts some limits on what they can do due to song licensing and stuff..but I want to see her do some cute, peppy, bouncy songs. Sklyar managed to put some spunk and bounce into her stuff..that is what I want to see from Jessica...but for some reason I can't picture her doing it..and if she wants to be relevant (lol, love how the judges toss out that word) then she needs to show she can keep up with the Katy Perry's and whomever else is out there now.

Such babies! Most of these kids are in my kids age ranges (1988-1993 for my three). It will be interesting to see what they pick.
