American Idol: Season 10 PART III

Why is everyone who dislikes Hayley called a "hater"? I'm not fond of her, but I don't hate her.

I don't think Hayley is talented and I don't understand how she made it to the Top 3. She has an adequate voice and no stage personae. However, I'm sure she'll be releasing at least one album; I can't see her having a career beyond that. I do get other vibes from Hayley, but I'll keep them to myself.

As for AI, I think Scotty will win, because AI hasn't produced a male country star yet. I don't think that Lauren is a strong performer, but I'm sure she'll have a career in country music, much like Kellie Pickler.

:faint:

OK, I shouldn't have used the word "haters" in my post a few minutes ago. Because it isn't my intention to paint all people who don't like Haley with a wide brush. In that case I was referring to everyone who was talking about her reaction to being voted off (and mentioned that James looked shocked when he was voted off as well). There is a huge difference in the Haley "haters" and the people who don't like her, like yourself. So no disrespect to you! :)

But......."no stage personae"? :confused3 Boy, I thought Haley was the only one of the 3 with an ounce of it! I thought Haley and James had the most stage personae of any of the top 11!

Haley's face was similar to this one..
Chris-Daughtry-Shocked.jpg
when he got voted off.

I also remember all the people that totally hated how every single song he sang he made the same expressions, leaned to the side and did the same thing week after week.

Is that really his reaction to being voted off? (I mean, not just a random pic of him?) Wow, that is too funny!

Good morning!!!

You've got to be skeptical of all this big star stuff. Every year it is touted that the winner is going to be such a big star. It rarely happens. Taylor Hicks was going to revolutionize pop music, Danny Gokey was going to "start a movement" in new country music. Although Idol is a great platform, it rarely pays out.

The music business just isn't what it used to be. Fans are fickle. Concert attendance is down. It will be a hard journey for these unseasoned kids. Even big stars like Christina Aguilera were unable to find success lately. Pop stars like Rihanna have had to cancel concerts due to lack of interest.

I certainly hope all of the idols the best, but this big star stuff is not as simple as it used to be.

I'm not sure it is lack of interest in concerts. It is more "I don't want to pay half my paycheck so I can go to concert that is overproduced and listen to someone who doesn't sound like what I hear on the radio thanks to autotune" For me it is the $$$ factor.

There are so many concerts I want to go to, but to pay 75.00 a person for nose bleed seats where they are just a dot on the stage (unless I watch the big screen behind them) is not what I want to pay money for. If it is my DH and I it is 150.00 minimum then just to walk out the door. Pay for parking, maybe buying a few drinks and it's over 200.00 for the night in a heartbeat. That would pay for my groceries for a week so we don't do concerts anymore.

just for Nancy, I'm gonna call that "gussssssssssssssssssssto" ;)

:rotfl: Thanks, I appreciate that :rolleyes1

Exactly. And yes there has been a lot of things said about Scotty on here that have nothing to do with his singing....McCreepy, vomiting smilies, he gives off a creepy vibe, he makes weird faces and has weird eyes. Those are just what I remember off the top of my head. No one has really said much about Lauren other than the obvious too immature, needs to go back to that spunky girl...but there was fun made of how she got emotional being in the bottom 3 one time.

Maybe I don't think she has stage persona because I think she's boring. Also, after watching The Voice, I found that there are other singers out there who can sing Hayley under a table. Vicci Martinez's version of "Rolling in the Deep"made Hayley sound like she had laryngitis.

As I said, I don't think Lauren will have a career like Carrie Underwood, but Country Music seems to love its princesses, so I'm sure she'll have a place there.

FWIW, I  Adam Lambert and thought he should have won 2 seasons ago.

I'm guessing that has a lot to do with the demographics of what age group does more itunes purchasing. I'm thinking it is a strong base of 18-30 year olds buying there and that older people just don't go there. Like me, I have an ipod, never have used it because it just seems like too much work and I'm not paying to get music off my computer. I only have the ipod cause my kids have upgraded and I got the old one.

Of course I'm sure someone will prove me wrong and tell me that more over 50 people buy there than younger 18-30 somethings do.

That is a shot of it. The title under said " Chris Daughtry's reaction to being voted off Idol. He was totally shocked and then you could tell he was mad. But he has done very well for himself and ...just who were the 3 above him again?

Thanks.... that's interesting..... but.... Here's their number of followers for some of them on twitter as of a few minutes ago.

Scotty 156,097

Pia 139,635 (But she is a total Babe so some might be dirty old men) ;)

Casey 121,809

Lauren 120,057

James 116,547

Hailey 102,989

Paul 100,466

Stephano 75,602

Thia 57,170

Jacob 43,863

I'm not sure but I think it is a pretty good indication who is popular and who is not. Does it mean that Scotty is going to win it all ??? :confused3 You be the judge. We will have to wait to see what happens next Wednesday.

I had to add this too..... my followers on twitter ????? 31 ! :rotfl:

Kinda curious to hear Scotty do a Barry White tune, or Tom Jones ( he's a bit too young tho)just to hear him outside the whole country thing. Lauren could cross over far more easily. I think it would be much more entertaining to hear non-genre specific finale...no matter what they sing, it will be SO much nicer to watch/listen to next week than this week.

There is a difference in who is willing to follow someone for free and who is willing to put out cash. Votes and followers won't earn your label any money.

Look at all the millions of votes that the contestants got last year. Look at the miserable turn out for their idol tour and their sales numbers.

Popularity from a reality television show does not equate to financial success. That has been proven over and over again on this show. Kris Allen has 260,000 followers on twitter. He sold less than 300,000 copies of his album and toured with very low numbers.

And relatively speaking, I don't think those twitter numbers are very high considering the number of fans watching the show.

IMO, the only thing that determines an artist's post idol success (and this applies to artists not on Idol as well) is the quality of the music they put out. Period. You can sing like an angel, but nobody wants to hear you sing nursery rhymes. The Idol winner album is rushed out and I don't think many of them have particularly strong song-writing skills. Even if they do, my guess is that they don't DO a lot of their own songwriting for that first album.

Anyway....I guess what I'm saying is that if your music stinks, nobody is going to buy it period. On the flip side, you don't have to be a great singer to be successful, you just have to have great music. It's all about the music.

This is the reason that Idol doesn't always (or often) work in producing great musical artists.

I totally agree. If Carrie Underwood hadn't had Before He Cheats, her story may be completely different.

However, that saying, there are tons of great musicians with great songs that never get any radio-time. The label is going to need to be able to convince radio that their songs are worth playing.

I just youtubed Vicci Martinez. She was fantastic! I've never seen "The Voice" but I may have to check it out. So is she still in it, or is that how it works?

The Voice has been on for 4 weeks. It's on Wednesdays at 10:00 PM on NBC. If you have "On Demand" TV, I think you can still catch the first 4 episodes.

Here's the website: http://www.nbc.com/the-voice/about/

Vicci is still in it. :)

If one watched the FOX News Channel this morning, they made it sound like it was 95 million PEOPLE who voted on Idol Wed night! :scared1::scared1:

Idol only pulls in ~25 million people per show.

It was Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks. Chris Daughtry was the third and he was let go, leaving Katherine and Taylor for the finale. And where is Taylor Hicks now? soul patrol. blah. yeah, I didn't like him at all.
