American Idol: Season 10 PART III

Carrie wasn't a great performer on AI, but she was still able to better interpret the songs than Lauren does. i wouldn't say that Lauren's problem is necessarily her age though. i was singing and interpreting songs at her age. it's just a matter of really paying attention to the words. and i think she truly lacks confidence.

i really do think that Lauren has a great voice. i'd love to see someone really work with her to cultivate the areas in which she needs to grow.

I am talking to you because you keep mentioning this inside information you have but you have yet to come forward with it. You brought yourself to my attention intentionally and until you did that, I hadn't even noticed you specifically posting. I'm talking about your pm. It wasn't a mean pm but you did put yourself in front of me. You are not being singled out; you asked for the attention. I asked you for the dirt because I'm curious about why you are so into your campaign against her. It just shocks me; I think I already made that clear-the shock about the fierce anti-Haley posts. Like I said, I haven't exactly handled myself gracefully on this thread. I am now curious about your motives, just that.

My pm to you was in response to a different thread you posted a bullying comment to me on,so you didn't notice that? Nice... but thanks for the *attention* over there too. I did it in a pm to NOT have a public issue about it, it would not have been a private message if I was asking for attention. After that pm, yes, I posted "that those of us who have local knowledge" of her (after multiple badgering posts) to make a point that I have reasons for my opinion of her, since you and other supporters of Haley insist that how she presented herself on tv didn't warrant anyone being allowed to have a negative opinion of her (again, I am by far not the only person who feels that way) Take it for what it's worth. No campaign against her other than stating my opinion. No motives, I don't roll that way, buy I guess you do. Matter of fact, it is quite disappointing to have a local contestant that presents herself in a way that I could not agree to support. :idea:Here's a thought, why don't you solve your curiosity about her and look her up? She may have some free time now on Wed and Thurs nights. When the show announced Haley was not in the final 3 , there was no immediate post by me commenting on her reaction to being eliminated. I responded to posts others made, and agreed if I felt the same way, laughed at some hilarious comments. I posted about Scotty winning the toss, said nothing of Haley. I posted asking Robin to stick around for the finale, again, no post on Haley. I posted that I felt it was not a wise career move to to react the way she did...oh the horror in posting that! Meantime, a lot of other people were stating their negative opinion, but obviously, you prefer to choose my posts to be *curious* about. Nothing more to my thoughts than anyone else who feels her exit could have been more graceful. Now, as so many here have stated, time to move along with the thread, unless you and some others wish to constantly beat a dead horse.

:thumbsup2

I would say it couldn't get any worse but I said that LAST year... and BOY did it!!

Next year I expect 3 people burping, 4 barfing and 3 more pooping. That's the only thing I could imagine to be WORSE than this year.:laughing:

They could make it a top 15 next season, so you'd need a few more barfers.

We've all known each other on these boards for a decade. I think we can all continue to get along. I just hope and pray next year is more entertaining with hotter guys. And by guys I mean men, not boys!!!

I wasn't around the boards last year, but it was kinda nice with you ladies not having any guys to drool over this year. ;) And, if it's any consolation, us guys didn't have much to look at this year either once Pia left (although, I will say that Haley grew better and better looking as the weeks went by).

You're right, T*Bird.

I just diidn;t talk to one single person in RL or FB that liked her but obviously many people wanted her on the show. Oh wait, one young man I know liked her legs. :)
And, I know many, who loved Haley and her voice. Same song Scotty and lackluster Lauren were just plain boring and always played it safe.

Of course, my "many" are musicians and such, so I'm sure, their opinion doesn't mean much.

Nigel tweeted that it sounds like Haley will be signed by Interscope anyways. Jimmy played him one of the songs from her album.

So it sounds like they will sign Pia, Haley, Lauren and Scotty.

You are correct. They don't.

Opinions mean NOTHING to anyone other than the person holding that opinion, for the most part.

Just because Jimmy Iovine thinks Haley is great doesn't make Haley great, or change my opinion. I don't care for her voice (or Celine Dion's, Barbara Streisand's, Macy Gray etc), or Haley's attitude. Will/can she still have a lucrative and successful career? Absolutely!

And here's a crazy thing...I personally know more people who loved Haley than those who disliked her. Maybe they weren't voting?

I've now read all 6 articles. Six professional journalists/critics/singers and 5 felt that the wrong 2 are in the finale. The Washington Post writer never actually said if he thought America got it right or wrong, but I think it's safe to say he's not a member of the Haley Fan Club. There was a poll in one of the articles, and the results showed that only 12% of the voters felt that Scotty and Lauren should have been in the finale. The remaining 88% believed it should have been Haley and Scotty or Haley and Lauren.

Thanks for posting the articles, damo. I enjoyed reading them! :thumbsup2

It's funny how in some cases on here opinions cited from some phantom sources are considered to be the gospel truth. Yet opinions from reputable, qualified, named sources are discounted as meaningless.

Let's face it, the average AI viewer doesn't care what musicians think, they care what THEY think and they know what they do and do not like. Period. Good heavens, we have JUSTIN BIEBER, for pity's sake.

OK, so here's a thought on AI...with many performers, we don't get to see their personalities week in, week out. We hear their first song, like it, explore more, like more, buy the album, become a fan, etc. We don't get to see them being snarky or hateful until we're already a fan, so we forgive some of that behavior as "diva". Sometimes, the behavior becomes such that we no longer feel we can be a fan (Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston leap to mind). In the case of AI, however, we can SEE the behavior patterns from the start. I saw from the get-go that Haley was not a nice person and that tainted my opinion of her as "Total Package". My other big hang-up with her was enunciation. It's fine if you are going to do the jazz runs and all that, but, sorry, I like to know the WORDS you are singing. Other than that, Haley has a beautiful, musically talented voice.

I think what viewers see in Scotty and Lauren is themselves (the audience likely skews young) or their own children having a chance at a dream. AND, Scotty and Lauren have both been vocal about their gratitude and how privileged they feel to have come so far. Americans like gratitude. They both have an, "aw, shucks" Southern charm about them and that reaches out to folks.

It sure is. But it's all just opinion. Personal preference. Nothing more. Nobody is right/wrong.

I don't know that any of us knows what these kids are really like. I didn't come to the conclusion that Haley "was not a nice person", but you know what? She may not be. I don't know her.

I was born and have lived in the South my entire life. You'd think I would be a country music fan and all for Scotty and Lauren. You mention their "aw, shucks" Southern charm. Well, as a Southern girl, I can tell you that there is a sea of teenage girls who sound like Lauren down here - sweet, unassuming, and meek. I can also say that many of them are the complete opposite. I'm not saying that Lauren isn't authentic - I'm saying that we can't determine a person's true nature by how they seem on TV.

Maybe part of the reason I like Haley is that she is the exact opposite of the Southern Belle image. I like her spunk, her conviction, and her take me or leave me attitude. "Laurens" are a dime a dozen around here (demeanor, not singers), so I appreciate a breath of fresh air!

Interesting info about the tour contracts from TMZ and MJs (so take it with a grain of salt...) Previous years seemed to pay much better.

“American Idol’s” top 11 finalists are set to make bank over the summer — because TMZ has learned they’ll each get paid $1,000 for EVERY show they perform during the American Idol Live Tour.

TMZ obtained a copy of the contract all Idol finalists had to sign before the show — which spells out exactly how much dough they’ll pull in if they’re invited to participate on the international tour.

In addition to the $1,000-per-concert — the documents show each finalist will share in merchandise profits from the tour … and will also receive $50 in spending cash for non-concert days.

Finalists are also guaranteed to stay in “Marriott/Hyatt style” hotel accommodations while on the road — and will fly coach between tour stops.

According to the contract, the tour will kick off immediately after the Season 10 winner is announced on May 25 — and will go until the end of September.

AI makes a fortune off their Idols.

And you know what they say about opinions. :rolleyes1 Which I can't repeat on the DIS but it amounts to opinions are like (fill in the blank), everyone has one.

Actually, I think that is exactly what Jennasis is saying...opinions, everyone's got one. Doesn't make it right or wrong, it is just what we each think. Just because J-Lo or Randy thinks someone was good or not good enough doesn't make them OK or not OK to me.

You may love the way Brittany Spears sounds. I may hate it. It is OUR opinion and our likes or dislikes.

It is the great thing about life, having choice. :)

Everyone on a message board just shares their thoughts and opinions. It is what we do here on the DIS and we're pretty darned good at it!:flower3:
