American Idol new judges!!!

Umm, I think my days of watching American Idol are OVER.

I guess I can stomach them, I just hope the singers are BETTER this year. Last years were an abomination!

Let's hope so, it should have ended last year. And this is coming from a person who has NEVER missed an episode. But I am done, last year was miserable.

But to those who still watch, I hope the judge choices work out.

I didn't even watch last year. I'll check it out this season ans see if it's better. I have a feeling this will be the last year.

That's not true. It lost some credibility, not all. And credibility is not the only reason why people watch the show. Many people watch American Idol because they find it entertaining.

It was losing viewership last year already and it can go from first to worst in no time.

Of course it "can" drop precipitously - anything "can" happen. Q: Are you predicting that it will lost more than two thirds of its audience this coming year? Is that a forecast you'll stand behind after this season?

I think if you look at the numbers they did extremely well. American Idol is appointment TV, people watch it regardless. The ticket sales for their "tour" , unfortunately, reflect how terrible last season was.

You mean last year? They were the #1 show in the country, which is why I think predicting their demise with assurance is so hazardous.

The tour is a bad idea imho. They'd be better off setting the contestants they want to work with up with their own summer tours - mostly opening up for other bands, perhaps - getting some seasoning. That would be a much less artificial arrangement therefore.

I will tune into to see how the new judges work out but if the contestants are anything like last season's I am out. No amount of big name judges will work if the contestants are bad.

Me, neither. I always felt bad for Justin. Out of all the runners up, he got a bum rap. The years after that, the other runners up got record deals of their own. Clay Aiken went onto Broadway, etc.

I am a huge Aerosmith fan and I haven't watched Idol in the past, though now that Steven Tyler is a Judge, guess I will watch it just for him. And I am sending out a personal invitation daring someone to butcher an Aerosmith song in front of The Demon of Screamin' himself just so I can hear some extremely witty critique from Steven Tyler.

I think there is something to that. None of the previous judges (other than Ellen) were potentially significant draws of audience to the program. They lent various levels of credibility to the judging itself, but really it's a television show, so any good casting director could choose contestants that would make the show more popular and interesting. These two new judges, though, each represent a potential, significant draw of new viewers to the show, more than Randy, Paula, or Simon did, in Season 1, and more than Kara did when she joined the show.
