David did not win Idol. But idol has had MANY Bieber types before. Some make it to the top 12 and some fell by the wayside earlier.

I, too, was hoping for Harry Connick, Jr. At least he's genuinely talented (sorry, I do not think Jello - oops, I mean J-Lo - can hold a candle to Harry Connick, Jr.).

I do like Steven Tyler, though.

I guess we'll see!

If we're willing to make a few reasonable assumptions, I think we can be a little annoyed at Connick. I suspect that the producers would have jumped at the opportunity to lock him in for the gig for the year, if he was willing to accept the kind of compensation that Tyler and Lopez were willing to accept, but perhaps Connick simply demanded "more".

I can't stand JLo so that one bugs me. I said it on one of the other threads that my dream panel would be Steven Tyler, Brett Michaels and Harry Connick Jr.

I haven't watched since Kelly Clarkson won, but I think these judges are a terrible choice. First, Steven Tyler has been in rehab for most of the year. His band members kicked him out of the band, then rehired him. Are they expecting him to act like a Paula?

JLO? Really? I thought this show was a TALENT show? She was fine as a Living Color dancer, but her CDs were horrible. She was one of the first to use autotune. She can't even sing live.

Both choices seem so old and tired. I thought they would pick more relevant people. And pay JLo 12 million dollars...highway robbery!

I can't understand how Randy Jackson is still on the show. Talk about old and tired. I think they pay him a dime for everytime he says "dog". No wonder he is a millionaire!

I think AI is officially over. Thank goodness!

I've heard people say that for several years. The reality is that AI was the #1 show in 2009-2010. Will it be #1 in 2010-2011? Maybe, maybe not. What really matters is whether enough people like the show enough to make presenting it worthwhile. As long as there are enough people watching, then it doesn't matter whether any number of other people don't like the show for one reason or another.

I think it is very unlikely that the show will be canceled after this coming season, unless it fails to place in the Top 20 for the year. That means it would have to lose more than 2/3 of its audience from last season.

Yuck...just plain yuck. Even my almost 17 y/o dd says she is boycotting AI now. Used to be big fans, but we started not really caring a year or so ago. Just mediocre now.

They should've quit AFTER David Cook. It's been a waste of airtime since.

Last year was a total embarrassment. From the contestants to the judges, it was horrendous. And the winner...o...m...G

If nothing else they need to look into what they did wrong and try to right it. Expertise in music doesn't make the best judges (Kara is proof of that) nor does FUNNY equal interesting (Ellen..hoo boy... ) Simon was the voice of reason and truth and now HE'S gone. They have to come up with SOMETHING to bring the fans back.

STEVEN TYLER!!! I couldn't be more thrilled. That alone will keep me watching. I don't care if you don't like Aerosmith, or if you don't think he's particularly attractive, he is amazingly talented. That man can use his voice in ways nobody else can. Not a bad attribute for a judge of a singing competition, IMO.

Oh, and I'm going to go ahead and say it....maybe ST will bring in a more rock n roll audience. Those who KNOW their rock n roll.

With Simon gone the show has lost all credibility. It was losing viewership last year already and it can go from first to worst in no time.

What I don't care for is thast they are apparently letting people audition online via Myspace (the "also-ran" of the social networking world). I hope they don't do what AGT did with Youtube.

I am so going to miss Simon, and Kara too (she grew on me).

I was really hoping Bret Michaels would be one of the judges. He was in the running but I guess didn't make it.
