American Girl Cafe's

It's really worth the price.

I've taken my DDs many times - now, they're saying they are too old for AG :( , even though they still play with the dolls once in a while, between the both of them they have 9 dolls - and you get a good amount of food, especially when just down a few blocks a salad can cost $19 alone! The ambiance is wonderful, service is fantastic and food is really good.

Have a great time!

I took my girls during the end of the big blizzard that hit the city right after Christmas because I was sure there would be no-shows due to the weather and blocked streets. I was right....

It was a lovely lunch (albeit an expensive one)! They did have to carry their dolls and AG bags around the rest of the day. However, small price to pay for such fun!

Thanks for the insight... yes its the cafe... We have ressies for lunch so we will hope to try it out - Guess we will wait and see - I am trying to decide though if we want to drag her doll through NYC though to have lunch with her

It's definitely worth it. We've done dinner and lunch in the one in NYC, and I think the food choices were better (for us anyway). My DD took Kit to the dinner and Ivy to lunch. She loved having her sit in a chair next to her. I got so many cute pictures of her giving her dolls tea from the little tea pot and tea cup. She brought her AG backpack that has a pocket in front for a doll and wore that. The best part was whatever we bought, we took out of the boxes and put right in the backpack. That made it so easy to carry around especially since the two times we ate there were in December and the City was so crowded.

We have done a Chicago AG trip each year since 2006, and have done the cafe 3 times (2 brunches, 1 lunch). My DD thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I felt the food and atmosphere was worth the price. She was there for her birthday on one visit, and they had the table made up with balloons and a big card, along with a goody bag. They put a lot of detail into each experience they have at AG. Have a great trip!:)

Since this is a budget board I thought I would share our experience. I took my girls to American Girl in Natick on dd's 9th birthday just because we were in the area. We mostly browsed and let each girl get a mini doll. Rather than eating in the cafeteria especially since we ate lunch before we got there we just went to the dessert counter.

My dd loves birthday cake ice cream and ordered something called celebration sundae. I was asked if we were celebrating anything special. I told them while it was one of the girl's actual birthday we were just there browsing since we were in the area. When they brought out dd's dessert they made an announcement about a special celebration for a special girl then sang Happy Birthday to my dd. She loved it. We also got to borrow dolls at the dessert counter. We have also been there for birthday parties though we never had one there. The food portion seemed big since neither of my kids have ever finished a meal. I have no idea what was included since I browse while the kids are at the party.

I will say though my daughter absolutely loved our spur of the moment trip to American Girl in NYC. We were in NYC walking around and went into American Girl. I went up to the counter and asked about tickets to the play. We got two tickets to the 4pm show around 3:40. Dh, grandpa and my youngest (too young at the time) went back to Grandpa's and just dd and I did the show. DD absolutely loved the Circle of Friends play. We bought the cd and still listen to it often. It is such a shame that they got rid of the play. Oh I don't know if they still have them but we also went to Providence to see the traveling American Girl Addy show. The show (non musical) was excellent but not for young kids. Even though my oldest dd has outgrown dolls she would love to see another play.

Well worth it. Took my daughter to the one in Chicago for Christmas. The food is really good, atmosphere is great, and "tween" got to be a little girl which was Priceless. They messed up seating us (had moved the table we were going to to accomodate larger group and had to reseat us a few minutes later), but brought my daughter a great little gift bag to make up for it. She got nail polish stickers for her doll, a book, and an American Girl T-shirt for her doll.

They have one near us. I am most looking forward to how my girls will enjoy it. It may not be top cuisine--but we will be going for the ambiance. They are looking forward to the special doll chairs. A local AGP is just very exciting for them.

We have done the lunch in Boston/Natick so did not in NYC. She got the doll's hair done and then did a photo shoot with her doll and we got their picture on the cover of the AG magazine. Very cute.

I took my dd to the one in NYC for her 6th birthday. It was a wonderful experience. She loved it and so did I. The food was pretty good. It's definitely pricey but IMO it was worth it.

I've had lunch and dinner there. For NYC the price is reasonable. The food is good and it includes a lot - drinks, appetizer, dessert. My dd loves it.

I have reservations for the Bistro at the American Girl opening in Washington DC. It says the cost is $15.50. Does anyone know what is included for that price?

thanks!
Chrissy

Please do bring the doll! You'll see loads of girls with their dolls, under their arms or in backpacks or slings.

We had the privledge of going two times while my DD was very much in the AG stage. Now she couldn't care less about them. :sad1: They grow up fast- enjoy every moment while you can!!!

Yes, it goes too fast, enjoy it! It feels like just yesterday we were there but DD put her AG dolls away in the attic last year :sad1::sad::sad:

so at the bistro we can expect to get 1 appetizer and 1 main meal for the $15.50 but then drinks and desert are extra?

I can't remember what is included, but it is super fun. They have seats for the dolls, menus for the dolls, tea cups for the dolls.... oh just fun. I spent a fortune in the store though, so many fun things to see and buy. They are only little once.:grouphug:
