American Food???

I'll have to look that up. I know I had a good one at a Padres game when I visited San Diego. Had a Dodger Dog at Dodger Stadium, but that was just a regular hotdog. I'm sure there's some Tex-Mex varieties.

How about the Coney Island corn dog, or a good NY style pizza (OK, I'm partial to NY), Philly Cheese Steak, some good southern Crab Cakes, BBQ, there are so many options. Plenty of Sea Food dishes to choose from for New England, Key Lime Pie. I agree, the offerings in the American Pavilion are just cafeteria. They might be fine for feeding the kids on the run, but they should have perhaps a TS that does a better job of representing the US. Heck, even the CS should have more choices.

I like what you suggest but the pizza should be deep dish Chicago IMO :)

I willingly admit that it's a snack and not CS, but I defy any four-year-old to turn his nose up at a Canadian Beavertail! :thumbsup2

They probably wouldn't, but since WDW doesn't sell them anymore, they wont' get the chance.

Say it isn't so!!!

:sad2:

What has the World come to?

I'm devastated. We only get Beavertails when we get up to Ottawa. I was assuming we'd get some while there.

What are they thinking? That's as Canadian as it gets!

Well, I could say it's a doughnut, but that's feeble.

It's a flat, deep-fried dough, fairly thin. Stretched out, and covered with various toppings - you can get simple sugar and cinnamon with a dash of lemon (my favourite), up to revolting concoctions with goopy chocolate and Reese's Pieces. They also come in a more "lunch-ish" style with cream cheese and chives. There's a blueberry one, a raspberry one.

Oh, they're heavenly.

Similar to a Funnel Cake? Or no.

It was going to say it sounded like what we call fried dough. Cover in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar? Can put cinnamon apples or other fruit toppings on?

Does that sound right?

I'm going to move this over to our restuarant board. I'm sure the folks over there will have more great ideas for you.

Um.....*ducking and hiding* - I've never had a funnel cake.

Sounds like it! Beavertail sounds so much more....Canadian. I've also seen them referred to as Elephant Ears in other places, though.

I agree they can come up with something better than fastfood to represent America, but there is nothing that is really truly American,Maybe Colonial, but most of what people consider American food is Americanized versions of other nationalities food.

True.
I hope someday, WDW addresses it and gives us a nice table service restaurant to do it justice! :)

But maybe in the mean time they can also work on changing the theming of the AA as a whole. The gift shop and the CS area definately need an up date. Are they planning on doing one any time soon?

Being a foodie, I can't help but be disappointed by the sad offerings at Epcot's American pavilion.
:confused3 Can't they do better than burgers, hotdogs, turkey legs, funnel cakes or chicken strips?

I'd love to see an awesome restaurant in Epcot, that would make us American food lovers proud, like the California Grill. Even the MK has the Liberty Tree Tavern, if you are looking for good old American meat & potatoes. Even a great barbeque restaurant would be nice.

Anybody have any good ideas for a really good representation of American food?
Canada has the steakhouse, Coral Reef has the seafood.
Maybe a menu with selections from all over America would be nice. ::yes::

Yes I agree. No TS restaurant and THAT's what represents American food for CS? Great....

I kind of thought that would be the impression.:rolleyes1
Thanks for responding! :wave2:
Great suggestion about the Southern food.
I'd just like to see very little deep-fried food, as much of the Southern food is!

A couple of Canadians here:

We think that the American Pavillion is pretty disappointing overall. The only thing that we would bother with again there is the Voices of Liberty. They were phenomenal. I couldn't imagine anyone eating there with all the other wonderful WS options right at your finger tips. I think they need a nice table service restaurant and I would love to see the focus be on Southern Food. It's truly, uniquely American and extremely tasty.

Unfortunately, Disney has started to decide that we all need to eat healthy, so various fried foods have been removed from menus. The fried chicken is still being sold at 50s Prime Time, but I know Disney's been trying to get away from all the trans fats. I'm not sure if some of the items I liked had trans fats, but I loved 'em.

I know! I liked the beavertails too. But the kiosk that sold them at the Canada pavilion has been shut down for at least a few years now. Many people reacted like you did.

Today being the day after Thanksgiving, it got me thinking that they should offer turkey sandwiches every day at the American CS restaurant.

I would go out of my way to get one of those, roasted turkey/cranberry sauce/stuffing/gravy sandwiches that we all make in the days after Thanksgiving! :)

I would like, at the very least, to see them revamp the CS to include:

After Thanksgiving Sandwich
Backyard-style grilled Burgers
Backyard-style grilled Hotdogs
Fried Chicken
Pulled Pork on a roll
Crab Cake on a roll
Philly Cheesesteak
Chicken salad sandwich
Egg salad sandwich
Tuna salad sandwich

(I know they already offer some of those things, but I would like to see them done much better.)

Good ideas for a CS but I still think they need a TS.

What about moving the characters from LTT (since they have discontinued that) to AA and serve the Thanksgiving dinner year round with a lighter twist during like June-September. To me Mac-n-Cheese, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and rolls sound far to heavy for the summer months. Was LTT very popular during that time?

Oh yeah, a TS is a *must do* for America.::yes::
I don't know how popular LTT is during the hot months, but yes, that would be a perfect setting to have the Colonial-style character meal at AA.
