American Embassy long lines for visas

For anyone with an appointment at the American Embassy to pick up a Visa make sure that you get there early.

We went yesterday to apply for DD's passports and there was a long line of people waiting to go through the security checks to get visas. Basically what happens is that there are separate lines and anybody in the line for American Citizen services goes through the check point first then when there is nobody waiting in this line then people are aloowed in from the visa line. So if there are a lot of people on one particular day wanting American Citizen services you could be in for a long wait.

Hi Catherine. Being in Lancashire too, I can confirm that, as at 0945 Thursday it actually IS sunny!

Just curious, and please excuse my ignorance..having been to Florida 3 times using the 'visa waiver' system, under what circumstances would you actually need a formal visa? (I realise that this info is probably available elsewhere on the boards, but I'm lazy!). Regards, Mike.

Hi Mike, it is now 10.10 and it is not sunny here just a lot of cloud!!

There has been a lot of discussion about this topic on the Uk community board. If you take a look at this thread http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=419892
you will see that visas are now required for entry into the US if you have committed certain types of crime. There seems to be a lot of discussion as to what types of crime are included so I'm not too sure when a visa is required. Just thought that I would let people know to make sure that they have plenty of time to get in the building before the doors close!!

I ALSO THINK THAT IT IS THE CASE NOW THAT UNLESS YOU ARE ABLE TOO SUPPLY THE ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER OF WHERE YOU ARE STAYING YOU WILL ALSO NEED A VISA,BOTH WILL BE REQUIRED TO CONTINUE USING THE VISA WAIVER SYSTEM.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TOO CONFIRM THAT IT IS NOW 19:35 AND WE HAVE SUN AND CLEAR BLUE SKIES HERE IN CHORLEY.
