American Disney pro but..

Thanks theffaddict for starting this thread. I 'm am new to disboards and am also planning a trip to Paris. My family of 5 ( parents with 3 grown children) will be going next summer! I am finding this thread extremely helpful. I noticed on the Disneyland Paris website information about VIP fastpasses you can purchase if staying at the Disneyland Hotel. Anyone heard of these or used them. As we will only be able to spend 2 days at the parks I was wondering if it would be worth the cost.

Is it best for me to learn some French before I go to Paris? if so, what kind of stuff do I need to know? What's the best way to learn it for an American? Any websites, books, apps that you would recommend? What terms are most needed? Thanks again!

Yes you can buy VIP fastpasses, and you don't need to be staying at the Disneyland Hotel to do this. They cost 60 euros per person per day and can only be used on the rides with fastpass facility, but can be used as many times as you like per day.

If you have 2 full days at DLP, in my opinion you won't need VIP fastpasses. In summer the parks are open from 8am (for onsite hotel guests) until after 11pm every day.

Few more questions here I have thought of..

For shareholders.. I know you have to have five shares to become a member.. But where can I purchase those shares at?

Also, should I learn basic French before going to Paris? It seems pretty essential. I'm already learning Spanish in school, but that's not help! If I do learn it.. What is the best way to do so? I don't want to spend a lot of money, so Rosetta Stone is out of question for me!

Thanks again,
Christian

My DH downloaded an app for the Ipad called Mindsnacks French, that taught French - words, numbers, basic phrases. I have to say nearly all people we met spoke English, esp in the parks and hotels. The hardest part of the trip was coming out of the metro and not knowing where exactly you were and which direction to go!

Not sure where you are staying in Paris, but we stayed at the Hotel Britainnique which was a lovely little French hotel, close to Notre Dame and the Seine. Rooms are big enough for 2 people, so you may need more than one room, depending on your family size.

For hotel - The trip is a long time from now, so I'm just looking at options for hotels. I'll definitely have to keep that in mind. We will be travelling with three, but maybe that hotel has larger rooms? My mother, father and I will be going

For french - I have Android, that apps not on Android, but thanks for the recommendaton!

Well, I think anytime you go to a foreign country, it's best to learn a very basic part of their language. It's just kind of common courtesy, IMO, and you'l find you will be trated much better because of it. It might not be that way in DLP, but outside of it, you will want to know some basic phrases, or immediately be labeled an annoying and rude American tourist, in my experience.

I like Duolingo. I use it on my computer, it's totally free, and they have French, German, and Spanish. It's actually pretty fun! You get coins and stuff for learning new words and phrases, and you can compare to your friends if they use it. You can also just search your app store, there's a bunch of free ones.
