american children on half term NS CROWDS QUESTION

I hadn't really thought about it. I know my relatives in TN, GA, etc start school in early August, almost a full month earlier than the kids here do.
Ah yeah here in my area (KS/MO) it's mid-August. That's more or less why I was asking because KS and MO are midwest not south. Fall break is common around me, usually early/mid-October.

We are near Indianapolis, and we just finished week one of our two-week fall break. Many schools around here start late July/around August 1 and have a long fall break. Lots of Indiana families head to WDW, but probably not enough to make a huge impact.

I am in northern Indiana, and we have a fall break, but it's just a long weekend that falls the last weekend on October. This year is October 28-31. I wish we had a full week, four days isn't long enough to make a Disney trip out of it!

I think the majority of schools that have a fall break are in the south, where they started back to school earlier. Here in MI where public school (By law) can't start until after Labor Day, a fall break is basically unheard of.
Where we're currently at in WNY, school starts after Labor Day and this is the only place (out of five states we've lived in) that has fall break. I know the districts we lived in in AK and TX start school in mid-August and don't have fall break at all. I think it varies widely by state and by district - I know friends in Connecticut have a fall break, others in GA and NM don't.
(The only thing starting after Labor Day seems to do is push the end of school back to late June, which I hate because all our friends and family everywhere else we've lived get out of school in mid to late May.)

We also live in KC Metro Area and I have never heard of a "fall break." I checked the district calendars of a few districts near me (KCK, Turner and Shawnee Mission) and didn't find anything listed :confused3 Do you live on the MO side? Maybe its more common over there...

I guess that depends on what you mean by break. I am Missouri side and our kids have always had 2 days off in late October for parent-teacher conferences. We have friends in neighboring districts with similar breaks.

I've never heard of a fall break in MA or RI and I work in public education. A few districts had the Friday before Columbus Day off for professional development, but not everyone. We start either right before or right after Labor Day and end in mid-June. Our longest breaks are December, February, and April (a week to a week and a half each).

HI, ARE THE AMERICAN SCHOOLS ON A WEEKS HALF TERM DURING 16TH UNTILL 30TH OCTOBER, IF SO IS IT A WEEK OR TWO, WHAT ARE CROWDS LIKE DURING THIS TIME, MANY THANKS

Most of the districts in my area don't have a fall break. We have one day of for Columbus Day (10/10 this year), the day off for Election Day, Veteran's Day, and Thanksgiving Break (Half day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off).

No I live on the KS side. Growing up they did call it fall break..at least what I remember and I could be remember that part incorrect. At KU they did and still do call it fall break. I grew up from 2nd grade on in the Shawnee Mission District but I live now in the Olathe School District. Typically it's just a Thursday/Friday rather than a full whole week off and you might have been searching for "fall break" and not coming up with anything. All schools listed below except for KU also get October 14th (Friday) off.

Shawnee Mission District (looks like 9-12 only get that Friday off):

Blue Valley School District (looks like theirs is a bit later than the others and 9-12 only get that Friday fully off):

University of Kansas (KU):

The 9-12th grade only getting one day was not like that growing up.

Looks like the KCMO School District gets October 20th-21st off (Thursday-Friday) as well as October 7th (Friday) rather than October 14th like the Districts above are.

North Kansas City, MO School District only gets one day off October 28th (Friday) but they do also get October 3rd off (Monday).

Not fair! :) I'm a teacher in WNY, so is my husband, and our kids are in a different district from either of us. None of us has a fall break! We're burning all of our personal days on a trip next week.

Yeah what you call those days off could throw people off for sure. I will say growing up I hadn't met a teacher that wasn't willing to adjust meeting with my parents. Thing is my parents were divorced and when they did go (because they didn't always) to Parent-Teacher conferences they were always at separate times from each other. So basically if you were going out of town you could talk with your child(ren)'s teachers to make a different arrangement.

That's pretty typical of the Eastern Jackson County districts (Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Independence) on the Missouri side as well.

The University of Missouri school system has no fall break at all, just Thanksgiving week. It's a very long stretch from school starting in late August until November for any days off.

That would kinda suck not having a day or two off. It's nice to have just a teensy bit to relax; at least in college it was.

It definitely took some getting used to. Our son is at the Rolla campus (3 1/2 hours away) without a car. It's a very long stretch between school starting and Thanksgiving. And his courses are such that he's never been willing to blow off a day for a long weekend. Thankfully this is his final year.

No true fall "break" here in NYC, although we have a lot of random days off here and there that people sometimes pull their kids out of school on other day. We've been in school 6 or 7 weeks already, but have only had 22 days of school because of days off here and there. No more this month, but we have 2 days off the week of election day at the beginning of November.

If OP is looking at next year, I know we have a lot of days off in September again, spread out in a way that we're taking a 6 day trip and only missing 2 days of school.

Oh yeah that's a bit of a drive too but good that it's his last year :-). I was around 30-45mins from home when I was at KU.

True, I was looking for the more traditional "break" that would have the entire district off, instead of just lower grades, for several days. I wouldn't consider 1-2 days off for an in-service or conference days a break, especially for the districts that have upper grades still attending some of those "off" days. Colleges, of course, are a whole other thing.

Yeah I guess we'll have to agree to disagree there. (ETA: we just have a different outlook on the days off for October)

Olathe does have 2 days off for all grades and like I said it wasn't like that growing up where Shawnee Mission only had 1 day for 9-12th.

KU has the same amount of days as Olathe does (2 days). Yeah I would considerate college a bit different since they don't have professional days or parent/teacher conferences but still.

Point is kids are out in October at some point and I don't know how many families take advantage of them to take their kids to WDW but I'm sure some of them do. Some may only use the longer weekend and some may choose to take their kids out for the whole week.
