How has your experience been with Amer Air?

We just booked our flt there from STL direct at 6:40 something AM... typically we fly out of Nashville TN on Delta but shockingly we found a cheaper flight that was direct on American. And we are actually closer to STL. I just wondered if you could tell me what to expect? Thanks

I fly on AA out of STL on a regular basis. As an airline, they're not significantly better or worse than any of the other legacy carriers. The ST airport is fairly easy to get around in this day and age; although it's a bit (maybe more than a bit) run down. You can check in and check luggage curbside (for a fee of $2 per bag), or there are plenty of self-service check-in kiosks inside or you can use the regular human-staffed check in lines. Unlike some airports, once you check your bags AA takes them for you and you don't have to schlepp them over to a security screening area.

The security checkpoints aren't the most efficient and at the main checkpoint for the C concourse, where your gate will be, they have maybe three lines open if you're lucky. As a result, you can get stuck with a wait there. (Hint: If the line is really long, check out the smaller security checkpoint at the B concourse, which sometimes has virtually no line at all. It may not be open when you'll be there, however. If it is and there's no line, you can use it instead, then take a right and head over to the C concourse.)

Once past security there's a food court with a Burger King and a Cinnabon, a Wolfgang Puck Express, a Chili's Too, a couple of Starbucks and some random gift/sundry shops.

Oh, AA is a participating airline in the RAC, so if you are staying at a Disney resort you can check your bags and get your boarding passes right in the lobby on your way home. This will make your airport experience much more efficient.

We used them twice last year and were happy overall.

1. - delayed flights on the way down (not their fault because there were weather issues)

2. - my husbands luggage did not show up on our flight. We were upset at the time but with all the weather delays there ended up being three flights leave within minutes of each other going to Orlando. His just ended up on the wrong flight and they delivered it to us at our resort with no problem. We were not the only ones with this problem.

Both of the above situations happened on the same day but all the other flights went perfect.

Thanks for the tips Jestocost....I have not flown out of STL for 3 yrs since we went to Phoenix.... and Nashville is so much smaller and quieter which is the reason we go south eventhough we are slightly closer to STL (SO Illinois). I am trying to imagine the concourses and the B/C tip you gave. I used to fly in and out of there monthly when I was in college - maybe I will look at a diagram or something online- thanks.

AA is who we prefure to fly on. We have to fly from a regional airport in our town, to DFW and then on to MCO. I agree that AA is no better than most other airlines, just for us more convient (sp?).
