American Airlines travel is telling people that Magical Express isn't
"working" right now - that you have to pull your bags off the conveyor belt
and bring them to Magical Express.

Has anyone heard about this?

No I have not heard this and I will come right out and say that American Airlines Travel is wrong (until someone corrects me).

Changes to Magical Express would be announced by Disney, not by a travel agency. Possibly some customers of the travel agency reported individual problems and the travel agency then decided to take it upon itself to play safe and give advice to their customers.

Anyone may choose not to put on the yellow tags and fetch their baggage from the carousel or publicly exposed portion of the conveyor upon arrival in Orlando.

There has been at least a rumor that after a certain hour in the evening, which may vary unpredictably, guests have been told (by CM's at the welcoming area or roving about the airport) that they must fetch their own baggage including baggage with yellow tags. (Prior to that hour fetching baggage with yellow tags is impossible.) However I do believe that if the guest fails to so fetch baggage the baggage will still be delivered although it may take longer, such as not before midmorning the next day.

It is counterproductive to expect guests to fetch baggage since the ME bus would then have to wait for them to come all the way back from the B side (after October 2, all the way back from the A side) on an actual basis, not a timed basis.

Perhaps Disney Monopoly Express and American Airlines are having problems playing together? It normally takes American Airlines 30-45 minutes to get your luggage off the plane and to the luggage carousel at the Orlando Airport. I hear the reason is budget cuts, that's what the skycaps are saying, but who knows?

Unless the words come from a bonafide Disney cast member in a role that would know that information, I wouldn't believe it.

I work closely with folks that handle DME luggage, and I haven't heard a thing.

More info on this.

We called DME and they said after 10pm it is better for you to p/u your own luggage :confused3

No Biggie though we are getting in way ealier then that

That's nothing new. They are usually short staffed later on at night, so it makes sense that if you want your bags with you, in a reasonable amount of time at that time of night/day, then you should grab them yourself. If someone gets in at around 11:30, they could have a slightly longer wait at DME, then off to the resort. Might get to the resort at about 12:30, with luggage arriving around 2 or 3. I wouldn't want my luggage delivered then. Much rather grab it myself at the airport.
Just remember.....if you are planning on getting it yourself, do NOT put the yellow tags on each bag. The tag tells them to pull that bag off before it gets to the public area.
