American Adventure additions

A thread earlier asked about whether people cry during this wonderful show (I do). Got me to thinking. The film kind of ends right around 1990ish (give or take). If you were to update the film to add things for the last 16 years or so, what would you add???

For starters.....
- 9/11 and our response (patriotic and otherwise)
- protests vs. Iraq
- US winning Ryder Cup in 1999 - Justin Leonard's putt
- Terry Schiavo
- Sara Hughes winning gold
- Bill Gates
- Hanging Chads
- Tiger Woods
- Katrina

Sorry, but I can't help but to chime in here... Terry Schiavo? You serious?

Honestly, I wouldn't add much of anything. I mean, maybe Tiger Woods, but the American Adventure doesn't make any political statements (sure, two Kennedys get to speak, but it's not really espousing any political message). I want the story to remain as neutral as possible, therefore no Terri Schiavo, no 9/11, no protests vs. Iraq. The point of the presentation is not to rile people up, it's supposed to make them feel good about their country. Adding those political statements would make me hate the show.

IMHO 9/11 should not be added until there is a resolution . . . when we can finally say the war on terror is over, in whatever way that happens. Not because I think that it is not important, but because face it, it's Disney. That is one hanging note I don't want to walk out of a theater being upset about on vacation. alternatively, I think that in the meantime a memorial area in the pavillion might be more appropriate until such a time as it could be definitively added to the film, so that people who are very close to the fight against terror (family members deployed, or lost in terrorist acts) can have a bit of an option as to whether they would like to be reminded during their vacation.

I don't even know what the Ryder Cup is. Nor do I know Sarah Hughes, I remember other Olympics stars much better.

Katrina and the rebuilding of New Orleans would be a good addition in a few years, but again, it's a bit too soon.

I have to agree, a no on Terry Schiavo. That was none of our business anyway.

A very quick Tiger Woods and Bill Gates clip I do believe would be appropriate and fitting . . . hanging chads, wait until GBW is out of office. Still too soon and you know you'd get a lot of angry grumbling in the theater.

If I could add one thing it would be the reintroduction of the wolves to Yellowstone as a tribute to our working on bringing the land back after the industrialization and overuse of it for the past century or so.
