Amazon selling book for pedophiles

Very true and Amazon pulling this book does not violate any free speech amendment.

My post was in response to those saying a book like this should be illegal.

It certainly should not be illegal to write, buy, or sell a book like this.

1. I fight against censorship.
2. Been using Amazon since they opened.
3. I'm a Amazon stockholder.
4. At the age of thirteen I was raped and molested by a Pedophile.
5. I work to stop on line child porn.

6. Bravo that Amazon pulled this disgusting piece of garbage!!!!! They are a private company and they do have a choice on what is sold.

I'm trying to think of what to say and just can't find the words. Somehow saying that I disagree doesn't even begin to scratch the surface... :sad2:

I think the words you're looking for are:
"I disagree with the Constitution of the United States of America"

I really don't know how somebody can rank atrocities or that somebody can be a horrible person for having an opinion on which they personally find more terrible. Pedophilia is of course horrendous. Murder is of course horrendous.

I don't think Dictator is saying s/he's all that fond of Pedophilia literature. The point is, freedom of speech and literature is a cornerstone of our free society and there are many people who will defend the right of any book, no matter how disgusting and vile it's contents, to exist.

These situations are extremely difficult. There are now people who are calling on Amazon to use the Whispernet function to erase the books from the Kindles of those who bought it.

So we're headed from - I will use my power as a consumer to not shop at a retailer who sells such a product (which I firmly admire anybody who uses their dollars to support their moral beliefs)

to

I demand that books that others legally bought and own be erased from their libraries because I morally object to the contents of the book.

And that is exactly why it is called a slippery slope and why many wince whenever they see something like this.

Bingo.
Free speech is not in place to protect the speech you approve of. It's to protect the speech you DON'T approve of.

Censorship is wrong on any level. You can write whatever you want in this country.

BUT any bookseller has the option to not sell said book.
You can always go to the publisher and buy any book through them.

Once again I applaud Amazon for pulling a Pedophile book.

Well this makes the choice between the Nook and the Kindle a whole lot easier.

I'm so happy I bought a Nook and I should be getting it today. This whole thing makes me sick. I pre ordered 2 items and cancelled them both from Amazon.

I wanted to update this: I'm so happy that Amazon decided to listen to their customers and pulled the book. I wish they would pull the other book (boys in the title), but I'm sure it would take the same kind of effort. I will still continue to boycott them.

No, I think the words are more like I think the world has reached a sorry state when opposing books that promote pedophilia and the best way to go about it is considered censorship. I can guarantee that nobody involved in writing the Constitution would have considered something like this to be an issue. The individuals would have probably been shot if they had dared voice their desire for such deviant behavior (of course, that would have really censored them, wouldn't it?).

Was that before or after you checked B&N's entire inventory to be sure they don't sell anything that you find offensive?

The founders were well aware that throughout history there were people who had their voices sniffed out for saying certain things. They did not want the leaders of the new country to have the authority to sniff out speech they didn't like.
Whether you like it or not, in this country, they are free to voice it.
The Government allows the "free market" to regulate itself with regards to selling/not selling legal material. And hey...look...it worked. Amazon pulled it.

I get it- but I don't get why you picked THIS book to get outraged about - and not the how to KILL book. And yes, I DO happen to think murder is worse than child rape.

So I guess it's safe to assume you don't have a child who has been raped nor have you been raped as a child yourself? You do know that for some victims, the crime is so horrific they end up attempting or committing suicide - right? :sad2:

The one good thing that has come out of all of the publicity (aside from the fact that the book has been pulled) is that now everyone knows who this author is, where he lives, etc.. Police authorities can keep an eye on him - as well as parents who live in the same area.. I wonder if he's already a registered offender trying to make a buck off of his disgusting thoughts?

Did it occur to you that people write books about their molestion and there a fictional and REAL accounts of people telling their tales through movies, plays, books, blogs, message boards, etc....

You can't put a blanket censor on this because then you throw out the baby with the bath water.

The system works. People put pressure on Amazon and they pulled it.:thumbsup2

But it isn't illegal to write about it. Disgusting beyond words but not illegal. It has to involve a live human before it becomes illegal.

Right. I get that :goodvibes.

I can't speak for anyone else. Why did I pick this particular book to be upset about? Because it's the one I knew about.

This has led to awareness of other trash like this on Amazon, like the killing book and the boylove book. For me, just taking this book off their site isn't going to be enough to get me back.

I agree. Too bad the government isn't allowing the rest of the "free market" to regulate itself :goodvibes.

The poster you quoted was responding to this

"It certainly should not be illegal to write, buy, or sell a book like this."

In the sentence "this" refers to the particular book we are discussing. A book promoting pedophilia.

The poster didn't bring up biographical works, scholarly reference books on the subject, or general fiction that might include such an incident. The poster wasn't throwing the baby out with the bath water. The poster didn't insist on a blanket censor, and limited her concern to books promoting pedophilia.
