Amazon Fights Back: New Wi-Fi Kindle for $139 on Aug 27

It's amazing how affordable ereaders are becoming! :thumbsup2

I'm amazed and happy with the continuing price war. Maybe this will finally drive ebooks prices down somehow and get all publishers to get on the ebook wagon.

I have a Nook and still happy with my purchase. If Kindle were to open their formats I might've gone with them. Unfortunately because of their greediness I will still pick Nook (or maybe even Kobo) over kindle.

But I'm happy to see the price war continues.
If this drives down Nook prices some more I might have to get one for DH soon! :)

I recently sold my Amazon Kindle 1st gen for $110 - right before the price drops! (I had bought it for $400 tho - yikes!)

I liked it but my issues were:

- I didn't want to take it to the pool/beach because I didn't want to get it wet or leave it unattended

- I couldn't lend books to ppl without the readers

- It was somewhat uncomfortable to hold (maybe they fixed this... but it was hard to hold without hitting page advance or page back buttons)

It is still an awesome and nifty gadget tho! Just amazing that I can pretty much buy a new one for the amount I got back from my old one!!

I ordered a new Wi Fi +3G Graphite Kindle 3 this morning. Those eInk Pearl screens look amazing. This will be our 4th household Kindle but I guess there are worse things I could be addicted to buying.

Now I'm sad because I won't get it until August 27th.

Yes, I'm fairly pathetic.

(ps, I'm still thinking about getting a Graphite DX when they start offering them on refurb)

yes, the Kindle 2 redesigned the buttons to eliminate the accidental page turning.

I'm pathetic, too, Rita. I ordered the new Graphite DX the day it was available and that makes 4 Kindles for our household - and we are only three people. I rationalized it by saying that my DD16 had been using my old Kindle DX during our vacation and liked it much better than the Kindle 1 she had been using (a pass down from me when I upgraded to Kindle 2.)

My DD21 has my old Kindle 2 and it seems to suit her fine - she will be doing a lot of traveling with her job so the smaller size will fit her well.

Still, I am toying with getting a new 6 inch Graphite - the price is so good! And we could keep the Kindle 1 for "emergencies" and I could have the small Kindle in my purse and the DX Graphite at home by my reading chair, and DD16 could have my old DX, and...

STOP ME before I buy again!!!!:rotfl:

i am too cheap for this but i did download the FREE kindle app to my netbook since i take that when i travel anyway. I found there are lots of free books and those that i pay for are cheaper than the bookstore and no extra weight to lug around.

I really like the app.

It seems they might be like potato chips.. :lovestruc

I love the new Kindles! I am tempted to buy one even though I just finished pimping out my K2G with decal girl, a jacket, an e-luminator and a guardian. I figure we can use it as our beach/pool/backup Kindle. I like the idea of having a second Kindle as opposed to getting a different e-reader for the simple ability to shop for or download library books for either/both devices at the same time. Did you see the new covers for the K3 with the built-in book lights? Nifty!

For you gals with multiple Kindles... do you rename your original to something else in order to keep your favorite name for the most current/favored device or do you simply make new names?

My very first Kindle was just named the name Amazon assigned it. My kid's Kindles are just the first names and 's Kindle. My second Kindle I renamed to something creative. The morning I was thinking about going in and renaming the one to be shipped as

the_one_I_probably_shouldn't_have_bought@kindle.com

or something like that.

I am so tempted to buy this!!!
Can someone tell me why I should. I need to convince my hubby.

I LOVE my Nook and didnt want the Kindle...the new one seems much nicer though..

now if the kindle would get on board with the lend me feature and allow it to be throughout the different e-readers

everyone I know has a kindle and I cant lend books with them

What happened to all the 2nd generation Kindles? I want to buy one on sale. And a 50% sale for the 2nd gen accessories would be good too. :lmao:

dream on.
the K2i has been out of stock on the Amazon website for several days now. Last time Amazon (going from the original Kindle to the 2nd generation) Amazon manipulated the availability to cut down on the returns of original Kindles during the 30 day return period in order to get a newer Kindle 2. Right now there will be very few people receiving new K2i before August 27th because if they were smart what they'd do is use them for 25 days or whatever, return it, and then get a new Kindle 3.

I'd expect that whatever stock they have left over will be used for Warranty replacements and sold has refurbs on thru the Amazon Warehouse. I also would expect to see some more Woot offers if they have a bunch leftover.

Dang.:headache:

But I have learned to act if a warehouse or Woot deal pops up. If not before Xmas, I guess I'll order a 3rd generation.

I LOVE this! :goodvibes

e-books can be reformatted and lent.

If I use overdrive at my public library can I read those books on Kindle?

No, the Kindle is not set up to allow library use. That's one advantage the Nook has over the Kindle - but I still love Kindle and I'm not a library user so that doesn't matter to me. And I think Kindle and Amazon have advantages over Nook and B&N that ARE important to me, so I'm an Amazon girl.

My newest Kindle is named DVCLiz's 4th Kindle, the other three being Liz's Kindle, DD16's Kindle, and DD21's Kindle. Perhaps I should name the new one "At Least It's Not Crack Cocaine".:rotfl:

Well, I couldn't help myself. I thought about it for a few minutes, and then Wham!! I was on the Amazon site, pre-ordering the wifi only Kindle 6inch Graphite for $139.00.

Really, for that price I am willing to have it as my purse Kindle and use my DX Graphite at home.

Also, I have a friend who is a great reader and I am perfectly willing to load it with something she'd like to borrow, lend it to her, and then get it back. She'll take good care of it and that will solve the tiny regret I have that Kindle doesn't allow loans. This way, my friend can keep something as long as she likes, read it at her lesiure, and then return the small Kindle to me. Perfect!

Who said anything about potato chips?:rotfl:
