Amazon 3rd Party Returns?

My mom and dad bought me a new Kindle for Christmas and a used leather cover from a third party seller. Although the box with the cover was sealed so it might be new. Can you return things purchased through a third party seller?

I don't think the cover is even the right size for the Kindle I got because I can't even get it to fit - it seems that the hooks are in the wrong places for the Kindle I have.

Thanks for any help! Could have posted this in the holiday drama post because now my mom is mad at me for even asking for the order number so I could return it and upgrade the cover for a lighted one!

If I can't return it - what is the best way to sell it? How do I find out what generation the cover would be for? There was no identifying information in the box?

Thanks!

Amazon.com is not just a retailer, but they also present offerings from "Amazon Marketplace". These are items offered by other retailers, who use Amazon.com as a safe and reliable place to present their offerings, and deal with the money-side of the transaction. Sometimes, Amazon.com even "fulfills" the orders, i.e., does the shipping and handling for the retailer. However, regardless of these arrangements, if you buy something from an Amazon Marketplace retailer, the return policy that applies is that of the Amazon Marketplace retailer, not Amazon.com itself.

So to answer your first question, we'd need to know the same of the retailer who you actually bought the cover from.

With regard to which cover fits which Kindle, keep in mind that the Kindle latest generation covers won't fit the Kindle DX, nor vice versa. And older generation (second generation and first generation) covers don't fit either, I believe.

I just returned an item to Amazon which was bought through a third party seller, but it was something that was purchased through my own Amazon account. Since yours was a gift, I don't know if it would work the same way.

I went to the My Orders page, chose the order for the return and followed the steps to return it. I was able to print a prepaid postage label and sent it back though the post office. Amazon only offered a refund, not a replacement, since they didn't know if the third party seller would have the item in stock. All in all, very easy.

I had a similar excellent experience with Amazon for a 3rd party return a few months ago. It was 2 chargers for iPhones and it didn't work with our iPhone 4s. I'm not sure if it was my error in reading the description or not, but I think it might have been. They didn't even ask - and it was opened and tried out before we knew it wouldn't work. I just did the standard steps on the Amazon returns page - didn't have to deal with the seller at all - and they credited my credit card once they got the items back. It was really a smooth process.

I went through Amazon, but I have to deal directly with the seller. He said it is for an older generation Kindle, and he'll either upgrade to the right one and eat the cost or send me a refund. Very positive experience.
