Our very dear friends (a couple, with the woman being my DD's Godmother) gave my daughter such an amazingly generous and sweet graduation gift that I am so overwhelmed. And I have been reluctant to tell any of our other IRL friends about it, so I wanted to share it with my friends here.

They gave her a series of gift certificates, one for each college semester, that say they are for a semester's worth of books, "Redeemable at the Bank of Aunt ___ and Uncle ____") and the first coupon was marked "redeemed" and attached to a very generous check that should more than cover her first semester worth of textbooks. Isn't that so sweet and thoughtful and generous? I think they have shown my DD just how much faith they have in her in her educational endeavor and have really invested in her future.

I am overwhelmed at their generosity, but even more so at their thoughtfulness.

Wow, that is very thoughtful. It is obvious that they care for your DD and her education very much,

What a fantastic and thoughtful gift. Obviously, your daughter has proven herself worthy and she has a marvelous godmother. I'm sure she will do well with her studies.

AWESOME!!!! What a thoughful way to do that for someone!

That's so kind!! What a wonderful, thoughtful gift! I would have loved that myself :teeth:

Well, your DD is pretty amazing and incredible so it sounds like the gift was very appropriate!

Please pass on our congratulations! :cheer2:

You know, that is an amazing idea, and if you don't mind, I am thinking about using it for our godchildren.

You can PM me if you want, but how much do you think a semester's worth of books would cost?

That is such an awesome, generous and thoughtful gift. Book buying was always tough during the fall semester because there was a gap between buying books and receiving my grant and loan monies. Lots of Ramen Noodles consumed during that time period.

Congratulations to your DD and good luck to her on her collegiate career! :cheer2:

Wow that is neat but unfortunately I couldn't be that generous. I remember 200-300 dollar semesters many years ago, I hate to think what they would cost now.

What a fantastic and generous gift! And congrats to your daughter on graduating!

Not the OP, but just finished a year of college. I was able to get a lot of my books used (not as much of a discount as you might think) and it still cost between $300 and $400 a semester

Thanks, Heather. I always bought my books new, and I remember between $200 and $300 per semester. I'll have to think about it, and talk DH into it. She doesn't graduate until next year, so we still have some time to mull it over.

Also, dont mean to hijack your thread cam..but i buy alot of my college books online...either amazon.com or half.com....i save a TON of money that way!

What a wonderful gift! So thoughtful and generous :)

WOW!! What a generous gift. DD is a junior in college. She buys as many used books as she can and they run about $400/semester. She gets about $150 back when she sells them

Oh Cam, that is sooo sweet of them! My goodness, how thoughtful!

Jenn seems like a wonderful girl. But then again...I know where she gets it from. ;)

My DD's first semester's books ran about $800, but the second semester was only about $400 (some of the first semester books were also used second semester - Biology and Chemistry). I think the university gives an estimate of about $900 for the year normally (DD's classes are heavy on science, and those books seem to run higher).

I finished my bachelor's degree about a year ago and books typically ran 300-400 per quarter.

I do think that is a great and incredibly generous gift to give a college student.

I know a couple of people in our family have done gift cards to different establishments, a new one each month, or 50.00 a month to help with expenses.
