Amazing Race, Family Edition. *Official DiscussionThread*

In fairness they didn't show the task..so it may be an "easy" task--and all safety precautions necessary taken.

However with the rawness of the incident (at taping--I think it had been still the first year since it happened)...they should have been kinder.

Part of the challenges though are the fears and angst experienced. So I'm on the fence about it.

This could have been planned well before they knew who was coming on the amazing race.

I agree that the task was probably planned before they knew who the teams would be. If they knew who this team was and they planned the task anyway, then that is cruel. I don't care how long it's been, I've lost a parent, it still affects you to be in a situation that reminds you of the loss.

What a predicable outcome. Plus no drama at the airport. I guess the Weavers complaining was to be the highlight of the show. Continues to be so boring. Why or why do I continue to watch. I switch between Commander in Chief and this. Soon I will be only watching the last few minutes to see who is eliminated.

I was disappointed. The Aiellos didn't deserve to go out like that. That was very poorly planned. Boooooooooo CBS

It's not just a race track. It's Talledega. Isn't that where their father died?

True...but many teammembers are placed in situations that for some reason or another--it is cruel to them :(.

I don't recall all the seasons--but one had a relative die in 9/11 and I'm sure that others have come to the table with tragic circumstances. :(

Right, but did the person who had a relative who died in 9/11 have to go to Ground Zero and search for a clue for one of their tasks?

Loved seeing my CITY on TAR!! How cool was that! I knew they should have picked shrimp de heading instead of the MudRally. hehehehe

Wish there had been more in Charleston!

DH and I were married in the Gazebo on the Battery that was the first stop!

No but they did have to fly on many many airplanes.

The Weaver familiy is an exceptional case...and without knowing what the challenge is, it is difficult to see what the problem is other than location at this point.

The girl with the relative who died in 9/11 is the only one I remember specifically, but they have many problems each season with people have to overcome some personal obstacle be it tragedy or phobia.

I guess it's hard for people who haven't been through it to understand. For me, 10 years later, I still get MAJOR anxiety just going into a hospital. So I can assume a year later that even being at the racetrack would be heart wrenching, and I don't think it can compare to a phobia. You're right, though, let's wait and see what the task really is.

How is it that you and I always end up in these deep discussions? :rotfl:

I have no idea. Just lucky I guess... :flower: :rolleyes1 :wave2: :earboy2:

Also--haven't they done race tracks before? I know the tragedy is raw for them...but still--any locale is a possibility.

I don't think I can bungy jump for medical reasons--and though I would love ot do the show...what IF, it was the last roadblock and I'm the only who could do it. Cliffdiving and anything involving jumping from a great height into water...can't do it. Alas, I don't apply for the show though I would LOVE to go on it. There are just certain things I cannot do, but the show wouldn't exclude me for those reasons and if I go on--I'd have to be prepared to do it anyway...or to walk away and quit.

The show said that the tragedy had no real weight with the family being chosen for the show...so I would bank that the challenges were planned by one team and the interviews conducted by another. Leaving them in Talledega to deal with their sorrow and fear on national television. :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

Sad to see the Aiello's go :(
I also didn't like they way it was just lined up first come, first serve. I really thought this would be a non-elimination round because of the way it was set up.
Oh, well.

BTW, FREE GAS for LIFE!! :Pinkbounc :bounce:
That could be worth a million in itself soon!

Just finished watching the episode. What's up with the team's getting paranoid at the airport? The Weavers were just asking a question...seems like a lot of them have "beef" with them, but they seem nice enough to me.

I hate when teams expect others to just share information and get pissed when they don't (not that there was any info to share.)

The episode was pretty boring...kind of drawn out. No real excitement. I HATED when they kept showing PHIL, ROCKET, PHIL, ROCKET, who will it be...da..da...da...that always aggravate me.

It was kind of funny when the Weavers lost it and not to be sexist, but it's two TEENAGE girls we're talking about . If they are anything like my sisters, one word: MOODY! I wouldn't want to be around ANY of my family members after running around and being on a bus ride to nowhere for 8 hours...LOL!

That Italian mother...I used to have sympathy for her but CONSTANT nagging and whining! I just want to plug my ears. Her sons are still jerks, but now I don't blame them too much.

I'm getting sick of the U.S.! Go somewhere exotic...this is getting boring!

I hate that too. I don't know why most do share their information.
I think it was another team that asked the Weavers if they got an earlier flight & the Weavers didn't respond.

Well, I haven't been a fan of the "Florida" family since the begining. I thought it was funny that they two rugrats could handle the bus trip better than the teen girls.

I am upset because of the team that was eliminated. I really liked them. And I agree that this should have been a non-elem round.

I would love to hear the specifics of the free gas for life. I know that when you win free groceries for a year, etc. it is usually a specific amount per week in gift cards given in a lump sum. They made it sound like every fill up would be free. Wow....

I have not liked the Weavers from the first episode but I do feel for them for having to be at the race track. While it's not the one the Dad died at, it's still traumatic being so soon after he passed away.

When my Dad died - suddenly mind you - my siblings were 14,16,17 & 23 and I can tell you, there are still open wounds 3 years later. Anyone going into a hosipal is cause for some emotions now.

Aside from that - that stinks!!!! about the Aiellos, I really liked that team.

Perhaps it is a set number of gallons.

When they do free diapers or free soda--it is measured in quantity and not cost.

That would be the only fair thing to do...if there were a limitation.

So probably no cross country trips at BP's expense. :teeth:
