Yeah, Hil, I thought about the fact that C & M didn't have the option of riding the bikes. I assume that the producers of the show will never have an instance that niether choice is available to Charla. Otherwise, they shouldn't have agreed to have her compete. I say, more power to them! Too bad Mirna is a little bit whiney - it kinda brings them down. I believe that we've seen that this is how the game is played - use your strengths! In past years, the very pretty girls got things that I would not have been able to sweet-talk someone into! (like the twins admitting to flirting!)

That's exactly the point I was trying to make in a previous post supporting Charla and Mirna. It's no different than a person who is very fast using their speed to their advantage, or an attractive girl flirting to get what she wants, or an older person using sympathy because of their age to get further in the game. Right or wrong, it's how they are playing the game. You use your strengths to balance out your 'weaknesses.' Yes, a lie is a lie, but from what I have seen that was the only time so far that they have lied, and how many teams have tried to get airline tickets by saying it's an emergency? A lot I don't think wanting to get ahead in the race constitutes an emergency

How do they pay for their airline tickets?

I thought I saw one of the players hand the ticket guy a credit card. Anyone know the rules about how they can obtain airline tickets. Can they use cell phones or palm pilots or lap tops.

hilside, I appreciate your insights on this. I agree, Charla is alo hosed everytime the teams have to sprint anywhere, too. But I think they would have to be sure, before they signed her up, that she could complete every task--otherwise, she would have to lose, it jsut wouldn't be right.

BTW, my kids absolutely LOVE Charla--partly because she's little, I think, but also because she's so tough and has a great attitude.

Maybe none of us would have taken offense to Charla's remark of being an independent woman if she would have instead said, I am as independent as I CAN be!

How do they pay for their airline tickets?

I will answer this one for you . . . . the show pays for the airline tickets (I don't know if they have a charge card/debit) but I know they pay for the airline tickets.

At the beginning they were given money & told that they money was for use in that leg & excluded airline ticket money. Airline ticket money comes from somewhere else.

Also, in previous episodes, teams used public telephones & travel agents to make their airline reservations. i.e. when all of the teams were waiting in line for the ticket counters to open, some teams would be on the phone trying to make their travel arrangements.

I don't know if that has changed with season 5, but I am sure it is about the same.



*** back to C & M . . . I didn't know if Mirna was going to have a problem driving the standard when they left the Chocolate factory. I mean she hit a car because of difficulty with reverse. Mirna is the only one that can drive on their team and they can't do things that use normal size items (bikes), which leaves them at a disadvantage if they have to drive all night and then do a physical challenge that requires riding a bike.

I'm so glad they are doing as well as they are. I am also happy that Bob & Joyce are in 4th place!!!

I'm trying not to read too much of this thread just in case this episode is re-aired on Saturday, but that's my questions...does anyone know if they are showing this one again, or if they plan to replay them all on Saturdays? I was thrilled when I came across it last Saturday. Also, could someone PM me to let me know so I don't catch a spoiler here by accident? Thanks in advance!

The show pays for the airline tickets, so that's probably an Amazing Race credit card you saw. The rules are that they have to fly coach, can only buy a ticket for a single flight, and a team of racers must travel together. Those last two reasons are why the father daughter team was so screwed this week.

I don't know about the palm pilot, cellphone question though. I would guess that they aren't allowed, or we'd be sure to see them in play. I know that racers often will borrow their cab drivers' cellphones to call the airport. So they can use them, I just don't think that they can bring them.

I think they are playing the game smart. I am hoping the bowling Moms go next, cannot stand them, and than the Brothers, they remind me of team Guido from last year.

I, for one, would do what ever I could to win. I just think it's funny that C & M talk about how independent they are & no one thinks they can do anything themselves when they really can. Well, they aren't doing it themselves a lot of the time. They are lying & being deceptive just like everyone else. I don't think they are proving to anyone how independent they are, they are just proving that they can use people & play on their sympathies. I'd have respect for them if they didn't say their trying to prove how independent they are & instead just said "we're going to lie & deceive everyone & use my height disadvantage to manipulate anyone we can". JMHO.

In their defense, I think they are playing a great game. They are playing to their strength, which is to make everyone think they are weak. There's no difference between them asking for sympathy from someone, and the twins flirting to get what they want, as has been pointed out before.

Also, C & M have been trying to get an alliance with anyone since this thing started and have been pretty much blown off. In their short lived alliance last night, they even stopped when the other team got stuck in the mud. How were they repaid? "We waited for you when you went the wrong way". Um, yeah...right. Then their new found allies have someone else book their tickets for them leaving C & M to fend for themselves. The argument with pizza boy came about because Mirna simply told her "ally" not to share strategy info with pizza boy. I think pizza boy got mad because, like everyone else, they have underestimated C & M and are now finding them to not be afraid to stand up for themselves. Also, the lie about the doctor could just as easily have backfired if the ticket agent had asked for a phone number to the doctor or hospital. Also, another team asked to be bumped to the top of the list as well, they just gave no reason.

I don't really mind the small lies to people outside the race, it's the lies to other racers, like the moms telling the father/daughter that they have to change thier money. There wasn't much outrage for that.

Very well put. I guess I don't see what Charla and Mirna are doing as any different from what the other teams do--use strategy and their abilities to their advantage. Every team has to be crafty to win, and that's what Charla and Mirna are doing as well. Plus, I also agree about how everyone keeps saying they will be their allies, then the other teams break the alliance. A particularly good example of that is Colin and Christie not waiting for them after Charla and Mirna waited when they were stuck in the mud.

Actually there is a Fast Forward in AMC 5.

I got this off the CBS website-

"Two pre-determined legs have one FAST FORWARD, which allows the Team that completes the FAST FORWARD task first to proceed directly to the next PIT STOP without having to do any further tasks, including DETOURs or ROADBLOCKs, on the way. The trick is that only the first Team to find and complete the FAST FORWARD on the leg may use it; any subsequent Team that finds it will have wasted their time and must go back and complete all tasks. In addition, a Team may claim only one FAST FORWARD during the entire race."

Looks like instead a fast forward available on each leg of the race, this time its only avaliable on 2 legs of the race.

Remember the first nite, someone found a pass that they could continue on with the race, and they could name a pair that would have to sit back and wait a certain amount of time.

When the pair found this I can't remember who, they put it back and said, we can use this later, cause they were in first place. I haven't seen this pass since the first episode.

I signed up for the DISBoards team from the begininning, and until this week my name was listed in the team standings. Then when I tried to check my score today, my name (MaryJ76) wasn't there. I know I'm not doing the greatest job, but does anyone know how to find out what happened? I tried posting on the message boards over there, but haven't heard anything.

MaryJ - I'm not sure why that happened. I'm not doing great either, I think a total of 195, and my name is close to the bottom. It may be since we have a lot of people and they only show the top whatever.
