AMAZING RACE 5 - Official Thread

Whoooo - Hooooo

I have 175 for this past week - the problem I have is that they didn't state how much money they started out with until the father daughter team counted it. I could of sworn the money was $136 for that leg of the trip (Am I crazy  in thinking this?)

Also, I think the cab should of been the twins, because the first twin was already seated in the cab closing the door when Chip jumped into it. This is the 2nd time Chip & Kim have messed with somebody and their cab. And that laugh ., . . it sounded like Herman Munster!

The new annoying team - THE PIZZA BROTHERS!

I was glad to see Charla and Myrna make it in the top three - that's what I put down and scored major points for that answer!

I am so glad that Allison and Donnie were eliminated!
I was not too shocked honestly because how could be a good team and be successful if they are too busy being awful to each other?
I like Chip and Kim - the married parents and I also like the Military father and his daughter...

Glad ALison and Donny are gone although I am placing half the blame on Donny too. He was pretty hateful too insinuating she is dumb because she is blonde and telling her to shut-up. It sounded as though he was going to break it off with her during there final comments at the end of the show. I don't think either will find a healthy relationship, they don't know what one is!

I am beginning to like Mirna and Charla but agree with deadheadbelle...don't claim you are independent woman when you are telling them in Spanish the small lady needs help, she cannot walk. But then again, I do admire how they managed to get the ferry back so they could get on by saying it is an emergency. If they didn't get on that ferry they would have been the only team left in Uruguay to wait for the next ferry and certainly would have been eliminated. It was funny when they asked the prostitute for directions and Mirna said she was mad and didn't want to talk to us because she has business to do and when Charla told Mirna that the quick hands in the roadblock clue meant Mirna had to stick her hand up the cows a**. I hope they don't get eliminated...they are so comical.

Do we have foam clubs in the USA?

I guess I'm in the minority here because I like Charla and Myrna. Their personalities are a little over the top but they have fun with what they are doing. Why is using their size to their advantage any different than what we have seen teams do in the past? I do take offence to them being called the midget team. That's just ignorant and mean.

The bowling moms are my favorite!

How did you like what the brothers said about stupid foreigners. Duh! You are the foreigners! They get on my nerves.

If Allison and Donny hadn't been eliminated it would have really ruined this show for me. I couldn't stand hearing her whinning screach any longer.

I totally agree bobcat! I was afraid to say how much I like the Mirna/Charla team since everyone here seems to hate them so. I will admit that Mirna totally got on my nerves during the first episode, but she's growing on me now. She is enjoying every step of this game and I think that's great. I loved how she tango-ed with the dancer last night instead of just rushing off. And I also take offense to them being called team midget. IMO it's never funny to make some of someone...wether because of a physical condition or for any other reason.

I love the Bowling Moms. I can't stand the daughter of the father/daughter team but I like the dad. I hated Allison last year on Big Brother and that didn't change this year. Unfortunately Donny was stuck with her...he seemed like an okay guy. I can't stand the brothers and I'm not missing their sarcasm...I don't believe it's there. They are narrow-minded and rude. They have made nasty comments about women and foreigners (although they were the foreign ones) and I hope they are the next to go. I do like The African-American couple although I thought Chip was wrong last night. One twin was all the way in the cab before he even opened his door. It was the twins' cab.

So right now I"m routing for Mirna/Charla, the Bowling Moms and Chip/? (forget her name). If any of those three win I'll be happy.

I heard them say $136 also goudaman, but reality planet gave credit for a different answer I think......

I like the idea of the father/daughter team but the daughter gets on my nerves!

Honestly, I did not mean to offend. I find the term "little people" to be offensively sugar-coated, and a dwarf to me carries a battle axe and goes by a name like "Gimli". I did not mean it as an offensive term. That said, I don't know how you can stand the whining from the cousin long enough to actually get to like them, but to each his own, I guess.

This is what I meant by people misinterpreting the brother's sarcasm...I am fairly certain they were aware that they are in a different country, so the comment was obviously a joke, not an actual denigration of those durn fourners

Do we have foam clubs in the USA?

From what i have read, Alison and Donny are already broken up, before the show started it was Alison and Ex Boyfriend Donny.

And here in CT there is a Club that has an under 21 night and they have foam parties.
I personally am too old for that (29...LOL) I can't be bothered getting all soapy and gross!!

Im surprised no one here has mentioned about how some of the guys in that club were acting towards the woman...eek.
That is like on last years (I think it was last year) Amazing Race when they had to go on that Train and then jump off at the stop, and the woman were all getting groped, it was awful.

That didn't surprise me. When I was in Paris, we were warned about the guys in the clubs. They were VERY handsy. It was really bad. Like being at a bad fraternity party. I don't know if they're like that with everyone or just Americans.

I thought about the funniest moment was when the cousins were trying to find the disco, and were lost again. They saw a women standing in the shadows near the bus stop and said something like "let's ask her, she's dressed like she's going to a disco." Only to find out that she was a hooker, and not at all happy about seeing cameras pointed at her.

That was priceless!

Stacey - where do they have the foam parties here in CT ??
Just curious - I'm too old for that too ;) .....actually if you're too old I'm wayyyyyy too old :p

I think I have as much fun reading the comments here as actually watching the show!
I agree with some and disagree with others. I never saw Allison in her other show, so had no preconceived opinion. But I thought last night, it was the guy who was the problem. They decided to do the tango thing then he spotted the dogs and changed his mind. Of course Allison wasn't thrilled and then he couldn't even find the checkpoints. She did have quite a handful for dogs too. Just my perspective on the couple.
The cousins seem to be using Charla's height to gain an advantage and I say why not? It doesn't mean to me that they are any less independent. as long as they follow the rules, it all comes down to playing the game the best.
Anyway I really enjoy the show and it is always interesting to see the countries they are in.

Here's an interview with Allison that I found, done after she was eliminated. I pulled it off another message board and it didn't have a link...

Allison's Elites TV interview.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elites TV spoke with Allison Irwin the morning after her and partner Donald Patrick became the second couple to be eliminated from the race. Donny was unable to join Allison for the interview because of “class.” Or, according to Allison, his complete lack of it.

Elites TV – Hi Allison, thanks so much for talking with Elites TV. According to the CBS website, you and Donny decided to do Amazing Race to see if you could date after your experiences on Big Brother. So the big question is, are you two still together?

Allison – We dated for a while [after the show]. I actually moved in with him and his family, and then I couldn’t really take the way he treated me any longer so I decided to get up and leave him.

Elites TV – Yeah, it seemed like you guys had some rough patches on the show.

Allison – Yeah! [Laughs]

Elites TV – But you guys also said that that was normal for your relationship. Do you think the way The Amazing Race was cut focused on your bickering rather than good points between you guys?

Allison – No, we do bicker a lot, but we have really good times too which is probably why we stayed together for so long. I mean, [the broadcast] did show us fighting but we do fight a lot. So, I can’t really complain about the show.

Elites TV – what was the biggest lesson that you learned from competing?

Allison- I can’t say that I learned a lesson by competing in AR, because I kind of learned my lessons from competing in Big Brother, which I did by myself. But during Amazing Race I learned to think more about me…respect myself more and not let others downsize or talk to me the way that Donny did. It’s bad to say, but I had to see it on TV to for me to realize that this is not what people deserve.

Elites TV - Interesting. So do you think that this is your last reality show or are you going to try for more?

Allison – [Laughs] I don’t think I’m going to be trying out for any more reality shows! But, um, you never know. Survivor is still going on, right?

Elites TV – Ok, now about last night’s show. When you showed up at the Pit Stop, did you know that you came in last?

Allison – I knew. I knew from the second Donny said, “We’re taking a bus.” I knew that that was like our fatal move.

Elites TV –That leads me to my next question: If you could change one thing about the final leg in the show last night, would it be to choose “Tango” over “Perro” or taking a taxi instead of a bus to La Estancia La Invernada?

Allison – Um, well, since both of those were Donny’s decisions, I would [choose to] not let him think [Laughs]. I would do the race like I did the first leg. We would have done the Tango, we would have been in the taxi, and we probably would have been in second place.

Elites TV - [Laughs] Interesting…It has been said that this is the most cutthroat season of AR. Would you agree?

Allison - Yeah, definitely. Everybody was really competitive. Everybody was still really nice, but it was just more…driven this year.

Elites TV – Were certain teams more competitive than others?

Allison – Yeah, definitely.

Elites TV – Who was the most cutthroat?

Allison – The most cutthroat? Hmmm…let me think. I’m going to have to say the Bowling Moms. I think the reason they seemed most cutthroat was because it took me by surprise how cutthroat, conniving and competitive they really were.

Elites TV—Yeah, on last’s night broadcast they told Jim and Marsha to exchange their money at the airport. That was pretty surprising.

Allison – Yeah.

Elites TV – Who did you guys get along with most on the show? Did you have time to really bond with certain teams?

Allison – I really liked every single person on that show. There was only one person I didn’t really care for.

Elites TV – Who?

Allison – I didn’t really care for Marsha, from the father daughter team. I though she was really mean and nasty. Not only to us but her teammate. Everybody else I really did like like, even if, you know, they didn’t care for us. I thought everybody was really cool.

Elites TV – What went on behind the scenes that we didn’t see? Like when you guys were having dinner, were those really fun times? Were there any juicy stories?

Allison – No, I wouldn’t say that there were any really juicy stories. But, yeah we all did get along. We all had dinner together and everybody forgot about the race and got to know each other.

Elites TV – Were people really able to shed their race personas and just hang out and drink wine together?

Allison – Yeah, a lot of people were able to just bond and talk about their real lives instead of just our reality life.

Elites TV – Were there any moments that weren’t broadcast that you wish made the final cut?

Allison – No…I don’t know. There were all kinds of things that went on [laughs]. All kinds of fighting and…you know what I mean. It got a little bit worse than what we all saw so I’m kind of glad that [certain scenes] weren’t shown.

Elite TV (salivating) – Can you give a tidbit?

Allison – On the bus ride to the roadblock Donny and got into it pretty bad and he started making remarks like I was ugly, I was fat…I was everything that had nothing to do with the race. I think he was just taking out his frustration on me because he knew that he had made a mistake. Twice. And I think that he knew that we were in last place at that point and was very insecure because he knew that… We had a game plan going into this race: I was going to be the brains and he was going to do all the physical aspects of the race. And we didn’t stick to our plan. I think he realized that he couldn’t do my half of the bargain and I couldn’t do his, and he crossed the line. So we got into it really, really bad on the bus. I’m kind of glad I didn’t see that [scene] because that probably would have put me in tears.

Elites TV – I’m sorry. So where did you watch the show? With a big group of friends?

Allison - The first one I watched with hundreds of people. We had a huge party and rented out a bar and that was awesome. But last night I just watched it with a couple of close friends.

Elites TV – Did you find it really hard to keep the secret?

Allison – No, not really.

Elites TV – Which detour did you think was scarier, “Zips”or “Perro.”

Allison – I knew that no matter what, once you get on that zip line you’re going. And I knew that with the dogs you could stop at any time and get lost and we were in a foreign city with nobody around us, with Donny navigating…so I was a bit more scared about [dog walking], that it was going to really hurt us.

Elites TV - Any big culture shocks or language barriers?

Allison - Of course there were language barriers. Just the way people live, the way they perceive Americans—it was all really weird and really new for us. It was uncomfortable but at the same time exciting. It was hard because when you’re running the race you don’t have time to check it all out and meet the people and talk about their cultures. You’re just like: “How do I get there.” It comes across as very rude, but you kind of have to because you’re on a mission. You’re out for a million dollars and if you don’t then that could put you in last place.

Elites TV – What team has most surprised you by their performance?

Allison – Probably the Moms. The Bowling moms

Elites TV – And Charla and Mirna? They were last night’s big surprise.

Allison – Yeah…but she’s strong, man. That girl’s got a lot going for her. She’ really strong, really determined, and I thought she was a huge threat. And obviously they are still there. We’re not, and they are.

Elites TV - What are your future plans?

Allison - I’m working in South Carolina until December and then I’m planning on moving back to Pennsylvania, to Pittsburg, away from Donny.

Elites TV – What’s Donny up to now?

Allison - I think he’s trying to go back to school

Elites TV - Good for him.

Allison - Yahhh…I really want to get into pharmaceutical sales and then in the future go to law school. But not in the near future. I need some time and breathing space.

Elites TV - Well good for you, great job on the show and it was a pleasure talking to you.

Allison - You too! Bye.

Is anyone having trouble entering the site? I tried yesterday and today and it keeps saying either my password or user name are incorrect. Well, since I KNOW my user name (Kewz1) and I stored the password I can't figure out what is wrong. I'm not showing up on the total list either, but, like the other poster mentioned maybe I just didn't score enough points to be shown. Any ideas??

Oh, and I have notified Dave (I think that's his name) but haven't heard back from him yet.

TIA!

That wass hysterical! One of them said to the other, "She's mad cause she has business to do." Very funny.

Personally I'm glad it was Allison and Donny eliminated. One less dating couple to kep track of!

Charla said on the first episode that she was very independent but people thought she couldn't do things for herself so she was going to use that to her advantage. I like them and the father/daughter team. I liked the bowling moms until the money exchange thing. I thought it was interesting in the above posted interview with Allison that she thought the bowling moms were the most cutthroat and conniving team. Interesting.

Allison - Yahhh…I really want to get into pharmaceutical sales
Is that what the kids are calling it today? :teeth:

I don't see that attitude...so I have to ask myself, is Alison trying to make Marsha sound bad just to make herself (Alison) look better? But then again, I wasn't there and we all know editing can make you look good or bad, easygoing or cutthroat.

Thanks Grog for posting that interview.
