AMAZING RACE 5 - Official Thread

And me writing three, now four, consecutive posts in this thread makes me a certified AR nut!

Jimbo, that's a nice thought, but your thinking patterns are WAAYY too sophisticated for those two! They're funny to watch, though.

Seriously, this isn't the first race to have identical twins. They're probably all watched pretty closely during roadblocks, so they can't switch, or stick their fingers down their throats, or go pee, or whatever, just because they want to keep the race fair.

Count me as another one to be sorry that Charla's gone. She's a tough cookie, and she always had a great attitude. And although Mirna did get annoying at times, if I might say a word in her defense: she and Charla have been cousins all their lives. Mirna has probably seen an awful lot of people doing mean things and underestimating Charla due to her size. I think a lot of Mirna's defensiveness comes from a history of seeing/hearing such things. Not that everyone would be mean to a little person, but I'm sure it's just a defense you develop over time. I'm probably not explaining it right. Anyway, I thought they made a good team and "enjoyed the ride", as do Chip and Kim, and I'll root for a team like that any day of the week!

I completely agree! I feel bad for the bashing they are even getting on these boards and they probably won't ever see it. I just think people throw the 'hate' word around way too often. I really really really really am annoyed by Collin, but I would never say I hate him, I don't even know him. Anyway, how about at the end when they were all crying and the host was crying. It was so sweet.

I too was sad to see Charla gone. I know Mirna is her cousin, but honestly, if Charla could have had any one of the other players as her partner, I think she would have been in it a lot longer. Mirna dragged her down.

A co-worker and I were discussing AR5, and she had a pretty good idea. At the midpoint of the eating challenges, why don't the twins excuse themselves and go to the restroom? Then they could come out and have the other one pick up where the first one left off. Would anyone know?

LOL Jimbo!!! I actually thought about that too.

That is actually a very good point. I have a very good friend that absolutely seethes when people stare at me. I've been dealing with it for 31 years, and I understand it. Come on, I'm 2 1/2 feet tall and use a motorized wheelchair--I am fully aware that I am unusual-looking. :earseek: But, my friend takes it as a personal insult when people stare.. and look out if they are blatantly rude! :duck: So, I could understand if Mirna was even more defensive than Charla.

It'd be cheating, for sure. But it'd be brilliant strategy too. Which is probably why they didn't think of it!

The dumb and dumber twins would never think of this. :rotfl:

hilside, I'm glad you understood what I meant. I didn't feel like I was coming across like I wanted to. In our house, Belle gets the pointing, stares, and comments because she has hair down to her thighs. It's thick and blonde and absolutely gorgeous, but after a while, you get fed up with the comments and stares--and it's a positive, not a disability. I truly wonder if people see her for the sweet, beautiful child she is, and not just a head of hair--especially since I'm her mom, and it's my job to help her learn that it's the beauty on the inside that counts! But, I keep emphasizing the positive attitude, and many times we discussed Charla's approach to life and how she never quit or complained. It's just so refreshing compared to Nicole's, "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!"

Amazing Race 6 spotted in Chicago Fri.
A team that was likely part of The Amazing Race 6, which is taping this month, was spotted in Chicago on Friday. As the show typically concludes in the US, and since it's late in the month, that suggests Chicago is either the final destination or a stopover in on the way to the final city in the US. Mike in Chicago writes:
Looks like TAR 6 may end in Chicago. On Friday Aug 13, I saw them running down Adams St, towards the Sears tower. ... I saw a team of 2 females, with a camera crew of two (one camera, one mic guy). The girls had on their fanny packs with the yellow/red marker/flag on them. It was about a second after they passed me by that I realized they were Amazing Race people.

Based on when TAR 6 airs, this is likely the end of the race, not the start. Unless Chicago is the first stop back in the USA, before they go to the final US city. Either way, looks like Chicago is part of the final TAR 6 episode!
The new season debuts on Saturday, Sept. 25. Let me know if you spot or have seen any of the teams, or Phil, near you.

I remember thinking that Brandon, Christie and the twins really got ripped off on their bus ride. Colin's gang had just settled on a price of $5, and later Mirna's crew paid just $3. The Brandon group paid a lot more, I thought.

Someone pointed out, though, that when Brandon and company got on the bus they had settled on a price of $40. But when they saw that the bus wasn't ready to leave they offered $100 if he'd leave right away. After some haggling they agreed to the $100 and the bus left.

But maybe that $40 was one price for their whole group. And each team travels with a camera person and a sound person, so they were a group of 8. $40 divided by 8 people is $5 per person. That means that they (originally) paid the same as Colin after all. They later raised their offer to $12.50 to get things rolling, and maybe that wasn't a good idea. But OTOH, they could still be sitting in that bus waiting to leave.

The guy forced them to pay for gas too, so they did get scammed somewhat. It just probably wasn't as bad as they made it look.

A note to the producers - I just can't believe the insensitivity of the production crew on the last episode. I mean, how attractive is this? You go to a continent where thousands of people die every day from starvation and diseases associated with malnutrition. Then, you arrange to have these strange tourists come in and gorge and puke on enough food to feed a family for a few days. To make things a little more thoughtful and sensitive, they do it all in front of a whole lot of little children, too. I'm sorry, but THAT disgusted me. A better challenge might have been to cook the ostrich egg and hand out 24 portions to 24 different children. Come on producers, could we at least PRETEND to think these things through?

Colin and Christie - Colin has been arrogant and smug all along. But, last week it seemed to me that Christie, far from being an innocent who follows him, proved herself to be an out and out jerk, too. They deserve each other! Christie was not only blocking Mirna and Charla from entering the airport (way over the top to begin with, IMHO) but some poor man was also trying to get out, and she wouldn't let him through! Oh well, at least if they get married they won't ruin two families.

Charla and Mirna - They've certainly caused a lot of controversy, but I think they've been playing the game well. I think Charla proved to herself and others just how capable she is. Mirna, however, is really, really annoying. Apparently she speaks 5 languages, and now we can say we've heard them all (English, English with a Spanish accent, English with a Russian accent, English with an Arabic accent and English with a Swahili accent). I guess poor Mirna just ran out of languages.

The Twins - "Clueless in Uruguay", "Clueless in Russia", “Clueless in Egypt", “Clueless in Tanzania". How much can we take?

Brandon & Nicole – Here’s hoping that rainbow was a symbol of God’s promise to get a haircut for Brandon.

The Bowling Moms – I liked them before and I still like them. They have lots of fun and they laugh at themselves. I hope they don’t end up being ostracized because they chose to follow Mirna and Charla last week.

Chip & Kim – They’re my top pick. They seem to be a class act and they’re unfailingly polite to each other and those around them. They also have the wonderful quality of being able to laugh at themselves and they seem to derive so much enjoyment from everything. Go Chip & Kim! Show everyone that the good guys can finish first!

I think Chip & Kim are a class act. On the last episode they took time to accept the invitation to sit in the chairs they had just delivered. Chip just looked pleased as punch to be there -- and the voice-over conveyed that message. They seem to be happy to be wherever they are. Chip was happy to see an ostrich egg to eat. That's happy.

Did anyone else notice this in the last episode? When Chip & Kim delivered the chair -- they were given the receipt -- did I see Chip or Kim pass some money to the family who received the chairs?

I noticed that, too. I saw Chip hand the man some money and the man smiled and put it in his pocket. Go Chip and Kim!!!

I thought he paid the locals that helped them find the address to deliver the chairs to.

I love the fact that Chip & Kim take time to appreciate the surroundings. They seem to find pleasure in all things.

    I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I made a similar comment to my husband. If I heard Bellisimo and rapido one more time......

Who gets kicked off tonight? Or, is this a non elemination round? I am rooting for Chip and Kim right now!::yes::
