I will be turning 39 on Monday..last year was our first family trip. We want the boys (12 & 8) to experience the magic and make sooo many wonderful memories. Both hubby's and my parents could never afford to take us there as kids..all we saw is the "big beautiful castle" which appeared on Walt Disneys' tv shows every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. back in the 70's and early
80s'..we always wondered if it was a "real" place...if anyone could ever go there..

Being parents now, we could have flown anywhere else on a family trip but from being there just once, there's no feeling thats describible as what your heart feels when you step out in plain view of the Magic Kingdom...the look on your children's faces, the smiles that appear continuously when they see Pluto, Mickey and the other characters..

Disney will always be in our hearts..it will always be a preferable pick of destinations..for the memories. There is nothing comparable. Our children will grow up and maybe eventually take their children to Disney. They will have many stories to tell of when mom and dad took them to Disney.

When the world seems to be falling apart, when you just need a boost, to get away from it all, whether it be to fall deeper in love or bond closer with your children..Thank god to Walt Disney for creating this awesome place.

I felt exactly the same way last summer when our family went for the first time. Both my wife and I didn't go anywhere as kids and wanted our kids to experience everything we missed out on.
We are going to go again next summer and i can't stop planning already. I wish i could get disney out of my head for a while. it is far to early to be planing but i just can't. It is such a wonderful place that has a special effect on people. People who havn't been there just don't understand.

I have been very fortunate to be able to go as a child and an adult. We've also taken our kids a couple of times and it never gets old. Watching our small children's joy has continued our love of Disney. I hope we can afford to go again.

Well our first trip was in x-mas of 2006. My FIL had passed away that year and we wanted to be anywhere but home that first x-mas without him.
Well the weather and crowds were terrible. We decided to never go away a x-mas again. However we loved what we did see and do while we were there.
We also knew there was so much we missed or didn't get to do. So we plannned another trip for the beginning of Dec. 2007. It was wonderful and magical. While we were there my DS4 at the time got foodpoisoning. There were no other rooms available that night at our resort. The computers were down. So they put us into a DVC 2-bedroom resort. The next day we took the tour as we wanted to find out more about this. We came home from that trip and DH started to investigate DVC. This is how we found the Dis boards.
Last Dec./08 we made another trip. We had found the magic we were looking for, thanks to the Dis boards. We also found an amazing group of friends that were also there as this was the TSM meet and mousefest that we were lucky enough to be able to attend. We also bought DVC when we were down there.
We will be making our first trip down as DVC owners in May. We also started to plan our Dec./09 trip back in Jan./09. The feeling of I can't help but think and plan is totally natural so don't worry about that.
Plan and keep planning till you get there again. Then come home and start planning the next trip, and so on. It seems to make life easier knowing you have something to look forward to. As for the costs of the trip well we started to save all our change we save about $1500. a year that goes towards our trips This helps as well, it is amazing how much you can save if you want something. We know roughly how much each trip will cost so saving is part of the trip planning. Hopefully this has helped for anyone who is wondering if or how they will be able to get back there. :)

I love hearing about other Disney World fan's experiences.

When I was a kid our family went to Disneyland. We drove from Edmonton and to be honest I was not very impressed with Disneyland at all. It was in the days of those ticket books and once you'd used up your tickets you either just watched or bought more. I believe a ticket for a "headliner" attraction was about a dollar. Anyway we all knew that our parents could barely afford the trip, so we sure weren't going to nag for more tickets. I didn't care for the crowds of California on a busy holiday; in DL, on the freeways, in the motel pool, well, everywhere. Probably because of my experience back then, I was in no hurry to go back. We travelled with our kids a lot but not to Disney.

So for Christmas 2007, my inlaws surprised us with a trip to WDW. While I was touched with their generosity I was underwhelmed with the idea of reliving those childhood memories. In short I was wrong, very wrong.

We had the best vacation ever and we're going back for Christmas with our two (now young adult) daughters. I've learned it's really never (even for us over 50 guys) too late to feel a little "magic". Even if my magic just a nice relaxing vacation where I let Disney fret over the details.:)

Oh, you nailed it, my friend!
I just went on March break, we had not been for 6 years (YES 6 long years) and we use to go every year. On the Sunday of March break, my hubby and son said, lets get up in the morning and drive to Disney AND WE DID!!! It was soooooo amazing and felt like I had never left. I still cry at every parade and every show. Tears of joy and happiness. My hubby and son get a kick out of it but this trip THEY UNDERSTOOD! As we were watching WISHES at Magic Kingdom, it was hubby's birthday and our last day there, the 3 of us were standing watching with our arms around one another and hubby got choked up - yes he did!
When we walked into Magic Kingdom that morning, I went right up to the top of the stairs where the train is and just stared for a good 5 minutes in amazement.
I came home refreshed, relaxed and happy. I am planning on going back in less than a year and won't ever wait that long again.
That being said, our now 17 year old son couldn't come because he had just started a new job and - get this - didn't want to come. He had gone with us 6 times when he was younger but here's my point. The time WILL come when your kids either can't or won't want to go with you so enjoy every single amazing moment you can while you are at Disney. They are such special memories that you and your kids will never forget.
We are all about making memories :grouphug:

It is ALL about the memories. I couldn't agree more. I have been married to the most wonderful man for almost 6 years. Two days into our honeymoon, we decide to start a family right away. I grew up with three younger brothers (DH is an only child) and always wanted two or three children of my own. Well after 18 months of trying, we are referred to an infertility specialist. More tests, surgery, lost test results, financial drain and another 3 years of waiting. We can't conceive. So to get our minds off the situation and prepare for our adoption plan, DH did an whirlwind tour of Southern Cal and San Fran. One magical day was dedicated to DisneyLand. We had the most amazing time on the rides and visiting with characters but when ever DH and I would catch each others' eye, I knew we were thinking the same thing.....If only we had a child to share this with. Much to our surprise, two short months after our trip we are informed by our social worker, that we have been chosen to parent this amazing three year old. We have been planning her first Family/Disney vacation about o month after she moved in. lol. We love to travel and can't wait to share that with her.

My DH is super supportive about trip planning but whenever I mention the trip around his parents, I get a lecture about economy and danger and whatever else. It was really getting to me. They are financially stable to have taken DH to Disney as child and so are we. I didn't get to travel at all as a kid and want my child to have all of those things.

I finally lost it and told them that, I don't want our child to grow up wishing that Mommy worked more. One of us can be hit by a bus tomorrow and all we leave behind are memories. Granted with the state of the economy, we all have tightened our belts, but she is only little for such a precious short time. I have waited to long for our princess and we are going to make tonnes of memories for her and us.

Thanks for letting me share.:flower3:

My first trip to Disney in mylate 30's :rolleyes1 and i was hooked. When i get home i can't wait to plan my next trip. People don;t understand it. they keep saying, why don't you take the kids to something new to experience

I wonder if i should sometimes, but with value hotels, and cheap airfares, we cannot afford annual trips only to disney as we always get great deals.

I wonder if anyone here had gone many times as kids and how that impacted them going as adults. I would hate for my kids to outgrow it and not want to go when they are adults. Has anyone experienced that :confused3

Great thread Kid@Heart2! I love what you wrote too. It captures such a great feeling. :goodvibes

I just wanted to post what I posted in another thread a while back called Why Do You Love Disney. It just caught my eye when you mentioned watching the Wonderful World Of Disney on TV as a kid and the memories it brings. :) I just wanted to add my $0.02 on what you started above.

....

Cdn Gal, that is a really good question. Sorry for the long post but I thought I'd share some memories and thoughts.

I know some people really get it and some really don't. We get it. It started for me with the Sunday night "Wonderful World of Disney" shows that my family would watch when I was really little. I also remember watching the Swiss Family Robinson show on TV and the classic Disney movies. I think that planted the seed for later things to come.

I remember going to WDW with my family when I was under 10 and thinking what a really cool place it was. I had never seen anything like it before. I remember riding Space Mountain with my Dad, the Swiss Family Robinson tree house, the Haunted Mansion with the Doombuggies, the Castle, Pirates of the Caribbean, the WDW Speedway, the really neat buildings, the ride tickets, etc... I also remember riding the monorail and having it actually go right through a hotel. Wow! With all of it, I had this feeling of awe and "How did they DO that?". Magical in a way.

Unfortunately my parents didn't have the money to stay on site or go every year or every other year. So we went once. Yep once, which meant a single day at the Magic Kingdom back in the 70's. It's amazing that all that stuff from 1 day stuck in my head after so many years. I guess it shows how incredible it must have been to a little boy from Canada.

Through my teens I stopped thinking about Disney and WDW but when I got married and we had our first child in 1999 thoughts about Disney changed again. In 2000, through work, I decided to attend an engineering conference in Florida, Orlando to be exact. Actually when I looked into the details before I started booking I realized that the conference was actually at the Contemporary Resort in WDW. Wow that's pretty cool. Wait a minute, that is SUPER cool! All the memories starting coming back to me from when I was little and I started getting super excited about staying at that A-frame hotel that the monorail actually went through. Wow! No WOW!

I told my DW about the location and she was really excited too. Our little guy at the time was too young to travel with us so the 2 of us headed off to WDW for the first time together. I think I was kind of in shock realizing that I was actually going to WDW and staying on site in a deluxe Disney resort. Totally different from when I was little and that my parents couldn't afford to be on site.

The conference lasted a week so we would have flown down on the Saturday and came back on the next Saturday. Wow the Contemporary Resort. I think a lot of the excitement for me came from knowing that I was actually staying at the place that when I was a kid I just looked at it in awe. For me the CR measured up pretty much to what I expected it to be. It was awesome!

Unfortunately I didn’t have a lot of time to go to the parks during the week as I was busy with the conference. However, one of the nights of the conference was a “Special Event” and no one knew what it was. So the night of the special event we went outside of the CR and were loaded into Disney busses. My DW and I wondered where they were taking us. Boy did we find out. They dropped us off at the back or side entrance to HS (MGM at the time). Only it was totally made up with extra Disney magic. There were huge red carpets when you got off the bus to where you walked in. Tons of people (actors) lined the carpets on the sides as you walked in, flashing photos, asking for your autograph, fainting, etc… really, really well done up. We WERE movie stars. I had never felt anything like that in my life. Wow, talk about magical. What I soon found out was that the park was closed for our conference and they had the rides and attractions open only for us. There was food and more food, drinks, you name it we had it there. It was truly wonderful. There was a New York City themed street party, a Sunset Boulevard themed party and other MGM rides, attractions and shows. Still today I’m in awe of that event and to the level of detail Disney showed us all. Wow.

After that first trip with my DW I was totally hooked and 3 years after that first trip we booked our second with our DS who was 3 at the time. This time we stayed at the WDW Swan in the club level section and met many wonderful cast members including Thabo and MamaT. They made our second trip truly magical. My son still talks about Thabo and how awesome he was. This second trip to WDW was truly magical again. My DS had a smile on his face literally from the second he got up to the time he went to bed. Quite frankly so did I.

My DW was just pregnant with our second child on that trip. We got in late to the resort on the first night and it took some time to get our bedding for the pull out couch for our DS. We were put beside the elevator and at 3 in the morning my poor wife could not sleep at all. She didn’t want to wake us so she got up went down to the night manager and just asked nicely if we could be moved away from the elevator for the next night. Well not only did he move us from the elevator but he put us in one of the Swan studio suite rooms!!! My DW woke my son and myself up the next day and surprised us with the new room. I was in shock. When we walked into the new room I was in awe. I asked my wife how long we were staying in this room and she told me “For the rest of the trip!!” 11 nights in an awesome room. We loved it.

That started an awesome second trip. There are too many highlights to mention from that trip that just made it truly magical for us all, especially for my little guy. Seeing the wonder and excitement in his eyes as a parent makes you kind of speechless. That’s a feeling in of itself. I will say one thing though. One night after eating at Beaches and Cream we decided to walk over to Epcot. It was a warm June summer night and really pleasant. Everywhere I saw people smiling, holding doors for others, and just generally in really good moods. My DW even commented to me about the atmosphere at Disney. It’s just a place that makes you feel happy, relaxed and in my opinion just a kid again. That is what I truly love about Disney. I’m amazed at Walt Disney’s vision and his company’s ability to create fun, discovery and learning, bringing out the innocence and the kid in us all.

Since our first trip at Disney in 2000 we’ve been back 3 times and are somehow trying to figure out how we can go back next year or maybe 2011. All the times we’ve been back to Disney we are truly amazed again and again the level of detail Disney creates to bring a feeling or emotion out of you. Their ability to tell or show a story is incredible. Their ability to put a smile on your face is endless. That’s what makes us come back again and again and again and to be truly immersed in the Disney “magic”.

I feel the exact same way as you after reading his/her post.
Thank you for sharing.

Can I share too?
I went for the first time when I was 16, with my mom and dad and my youger brother. We had a "good time" but because we knew nothing about the place there was so much missed magic. We only stayed near Disney for 4 days and then we went back to St.Pete's.
Flash forward 10 years, I married my high school sweetheart, had given birth to and buried my first son and was pregnant with twins. Afterwards, I suffered from debilitating post partum depression. But, thanks to my dh found a way through it all. I watched my daughters day in and day out play princess (every halloween they were different Disney princess) Fast forward 7 years and my parents treated us to a trip to Disney,(now via the internet I did a ton of research to make this once in a lifetime trip unforgettable). I will never forget the happiness that I felt watching my girls when they walked upon the castle and received their first hug from Wendy....I never thought I would feel that type of happiness again, it was like a piece of me was put back together, it was renewed hope and I will never forget the joy on my children's faces. Fast forward to 2007 and I knew that we had to go again, so this time our family of 4 went to Disney and stayed at POP for 10 days...this was the very first family trip that we had ever taken on our own, without grandparents or travelling with friends and their families. It was truly magical. I looked at my dh walking up mainstreet and he casually looked at me and gave me a smile that reminded me of the day that I met him when I was 16. So, of course here we are again, about to depart in 13 days!! For 2 weeks at POP, eager to fill up another scrapbook!
I can't thank Walt enough, what a accomplishment to make so many people so very happy. Aside from Jesus, who has ever done anything so amazing?
Sorry to be a bit of a downer....it just means so much to me. I know so many think that Disney is a overcommercialized industry and nothing more, to those people you can't explain what they are missing.
Thanks.

Wow, truly great stories, no downer here
I always had a love for Disney but did not go til my 30's and now i want to go every year. I worry about over doing it with my kids. I hear so many Non-Disney fans  that can't understand why we keep going back instead of trying new places,. I truly believe Disney makes you feel young, so who doesn't want to keep going back to have that feeling :goodvibes
