Amazing Adventures of the 2013 Disney Moms Panel Search

What were the choices for this trick dole whip question? Pineapple, whipped cream, soft serve and what was the other?

I went with pineapple as well.

Strawberries and the question read, "What ingredient makes the Dole Whip so special?"

Ah thanks guys. I was questioning my answer. I also answered pineapple, though I can see the argument for soft serve. But seeing the exact wording again I'm still happy with my choice. I'm hoping for everyone there were two acceptable answers. :)

Me too :)

I'm also concerned about the dole whip question :worried:(I answered pineapple). However, I don't understand how soft serve could be the answer, because soft serve is not an ingredient....it is a "type" of ice cream or sorbet. Although, if they are trying to be tricky, soft serve could very well be the answer.

edit: here is a list of ingredients and a description of the product. I am even more confused now as to what the correct answer would be.

I said "Pineapple", but then I realized that Aloha Isle doesn't just make pineapple, but other flavors as well...SO maybe they will count my answer as wrong, since it's a soft serve treat. :confused3 When I THINK of Dole Whip, I THINK pineapple, but I agree that it was a tricky question. Oh well! All I can do is wait...and the sad thing is, I haven't been to WDW since last Sept (JUST BARELY made it in the frame!) and we have no trips planned right now. DH's bday is the first week of Dec, and I've been BEGGING him to let me plan a trip for his bday! We've gone twice during that week and we LOVE it! I'll be very depressed if we don't have a trip, and I get rejected as well.

I really, really hope they will take either answer. "Special" is subjective and the degree to which each option could be called an ingredient is debatable. The journalist in me looked long and hard for an "official" answer, but since dole whip is a cult thing, there were none to be found, except for the Aloha Isle description on the WDW restaurant listing. I do know first-hand from visits, however, that there is a sign at AI that says "pineapple." Even on the Moms Panel site, some panelists call it "soft-serve ice cream" and others call it "soft-serve frozen treat." Also, some panelists call the orange flavor "orange dole whip" and others call it "orange soft-serve." :confused3

This is seriously going to drive me crazy until October :crazy2: Good thing I'm going to WDW in a couple weeks and can treat myself to many dole whips before the notices come in. How ironic if my one true love, the dole whip, becomes the cause of my rejection.

I hope they count both answers as correct as well. I can see the argument for both sides - there is no pineapple in the orange and vanilla flavors, however, pineapple is an actual ingredient of one of them. Soft serve is not, technically, an ingredient.

Oh well, what's done is done. :)

I just had my first Dole Whip on our trip this past July. YUM!
:cool1:

Oh man I wish I was going! I REALLY feel like I NEED a Dole Whip now!!!

well it wouldn't be a Dole Whip without the soft serve. Pineapple is not actually in it, just the juice.

Where can I get a Dole Whip in Disneyland when I go in 16 days ?

It's not quite the same thing, but vanilla ice cream + crushed pineapple + pineapple juice + immersion blender = reasonable enough facsimile of a dole whip.

From this link it seems you cannot make a Dole Whip without Soft Serve

"Pour in one bag of Dole soft serve mix"

I'm with you on the pineapple/pineapple juice point. Any nutritionist or dentist would tell you there is a huge difference between actual fruit and concentrated juice. BUT, "soft serve mix" can hardly be considered ice cream, even if Disney itself calls it soft-serve ice cream on its website. It would have made much more sense if one of the options would have been "soft serve mix" or "pineapple juice."

This is my 3rd time applying, I made it to round two both other times, but this is the first time I can honestly say I'm stumped. :confused3

If something contains pineapple juice, then doesn't it technically contain pineapple? The juice is just as much a part of the fruit as the "meat" or "pulp" of the fruit. If someone told me lemonade contains lemons, I would not think twice about the fact they did not say the "juice" of a lemon.

It seems like every year there is a question that has two debatable answers!

My husband's two cents:

"Asking, "What ingredient makes a Dole Whip special?" indicates they are asking for an actual ingredient. Saying that soft serve is the ingredient doesn't make sense, because that's what a Dole Whip is- naturally flavored soft serve in a cup. It's like saying the special ingredient in pancakes is pancakes."

LOL

Here's what I hate about this: you could argue both ways. You can get soft serve at many WDW locations, but pineapple is what makes the Dole Whip special.

On the other hand, there are other flavors besides pineapple, so maybe that was the trick.

I know they need questions to weed out amateurs, but it shouldn't be something as debatable as this, especially if they use it to discard applications before they read the 100 word essay. I would hate to think that my essay (or anyone else's) didn't get read because of their interpretation of this question.

Of course, all of us will wonder if messing up this question was the reason we didn't advance. Maybe we'll be able to confirm that some of the round 2 applicants chose pineapple and some chose soft serve. Then we can all feel better!

There's no use worrying about it now--let's just hang in there together and look forward to round 2!

I totally agree!

As I have said earlier, this was my first year applying, and I found myself looking at the multiple choice questions going, "Are they for real?" It almost felt like playing Disney Trivia or something to me. Did anyone else feel that way when answering the questions?

After a distracted day at work, trying to work on essays that show my passion and enthusiasm for Disney in 100 words or less... not an easy task, if you haven't noticed I can be a bit verbose :rotfl2:, I finally submitted my application.

Good luck everyone!
