I will say a prayer for your Dad and you. You must be feeling so many emotions right now. My heart goes out to you.

Sundie

Amanda,

I am sending a big  and lots of prayers your way for you, your dad, and your entire family. :grouphug:

Take care,
Tracy

Oh, Amanda, honey...you are in my heart and my prayers; you just gotta know it. I'm praying that God will surround you with His peace--that peace that we can't really even understand but can come to us just the same and comfort us in amazing ways. God will help you through the darkness and the fear and will not give you more than you can handle.

Amanda, I don't mean to sound like an old lady, but when I was about your age (you know, back in the day  ), my father was sick, too, and his health was, like you said, "worrisome." I was about 27, I think, when he had open heart surgery. Everyone's situation is different--mine was not quite what you're experiencing, certainly--but I remember how afraid I felt at the time. Your heart is heavy, I know. Imagine yourself getting a big hug from me.

Amanda, have you talked to Beth about any of this? She's an amazing source of medical knowledge (you know you are, princess: Beth) and might be able to give you some insight into what to expect with the tests and all. Keeping yourself as informed as possible can help you feel less vulnerable, I think.
Knowledge is power, you know.

So, girlfriend, know you're not walking this part of your life alone. Take it one day at a time and try not to let your mind run away with you. Enjoy yourself tonight and draw strength and positive feelings from those around you. Also, Amanda, remember that taking care of yourself, emotionally and physically, is what your dad will want you to be doing. Give yourself a dose of TLC along the way.

With much love, Amanda,
Erin

:grouphug: Amanda,
sending prayers for you, your Dad and family. Please take care of yourself. You certainly don't need to stress about the marathon at this time. Your father, family and good health are much more important.

Thanks everyone for posting. I must admitt it was good to get it all off my chest because I just couldn't post otherwise. The Dr. called my Dad yesterday and gave him some more prescriptions because she didn't like his glucose levels. It is almost comical I will say to my Dad, "Well what didn't she like about them?"
Dad, "Oh I dont' know."
Me, "Well was it to high or to low."
Dad, "I didn't ask."

Um, okay - it just kills me. She is going to be calling him on Monday with some of the test results that they have already done.

I am still going to try and get back on the healthy living road because if anything this has taught me that you can't take anything for granted. I am looking forward to my work out at Curves on Monday. And tomorrow DH and I will be taking a 6.5 mile walk. I also need to do some grocery shopping today and I am going to pick up lots of healthy stuff to eat.

Thanks for those prayers and pixie dust - it has made a difference.

Amanda, this meditation speaks volumes about who you are and how much you've learned about yourself. You sound very wise and very nurturing. Good for you!!!

I'm praying for your dear Dad, for you and Brian, for all affected by your Dad's illness. Take each day as it comes.

Best wishes for a good walk tomorrow. 6.5 miles is an accomplishment to be celebrated! It's a great time to enjoy the fresh air and the wonderful company of your DH.

P.S. Todd says that if you & Brian don't make it to the half marathon, he has always wanted to see the Arch in St. Louis.... Looks like you'll be seeing us one way or another! :p

That would be awesome! We could also take you guys to see the original Anheisuer Busch Brewery and other stuff around here. Hmm....I'll need to get one of the Aero beds for you guys to sleep on! :)

Yesterday was a good day. I did some major journaling and really got out a lot of the feelings that I had been keeping inside of me about my Mom and Dad. Brian and I rested pretty much all day but we did manage to get in grocery shopping and a target run. I got a new cool scrapbooking program that I love. Today I am going to try and be back on low carb. Although we are going to my Aunt's for dinner tonight so I'll have to eat what is available but I can make the most out of the rest of my day. I'll be drinking lots and lots of water. Tomorrow I go to Curves and get weighed and measured. I've never actually done this before except in the privacy of my own home so I am a little nervous.

Meditation today: Just being willing to take a look is the first step. I can take that step.

Sort of a weird meditation for today - it is about becoming powerful over workaholisim.

10:51 a.m. - edit - just walked 6 miles in 60 minutes! We were extremely focused today and I can't believe we walked all of that in 60 minutes! Any worries I had about completing the marathon are gone.

B: 2 eggs, 1 piece of cheese, 1 piece of Canadian Bacon, and some green peppers - 3 carbs.

Hi Amanda and Happy New Year!
I just wanted to say don't worry about the half...even if you had to take a training break. The excitement of the race and all the people, especially fellow WISH'ers, will keep you going....You'll be surprised, you may set a Personal Best time!

Your goals for the new year are wonderful. I find many of them are applicable to my own life.

Prayers to your dad from me. My DH just got out of the hospital just before Christmas, so I've been dealing with medical issues too. Just haven't had a chance to post the whole story in my journal- I will eventually.

I will have to get over to read your trip reports. I've been meaning to. Now that I'm in a TR mood reading Delswife's and Zurg's, I will check yours out too!

Glad you are feeling better....lots of illness going around with the craziness of the holidays. Hopefully it can all settle down somewhat for you after the "big race".

Good morning, Amanda. I'll be thinking of you and yours today and sending lots of good :goodvibes your way.

Glad to hear you and Brian were jock athletes--6 in 60--WooHoo! :cool1: :cool1:

 ,
Erin

:sunny: Good morning princess: Amanda! :sunny:

Not to disappint you or anything, but if we come to St. Louis, we'll be staying in a hotel. My DH will not be content unless there's a hot tub readily available! :p We would LOVE to spend time with you and Brian, though, and see the sights! I'm just starting my vacation research now since we've decided not to do a WDW trip this summer, so I'll keep you posted.

6 miles in 60 minutes!! I'm exhausted just thinking about the pace you must've been moving at! Good for you and Brian!!

Best wishes at Curves today! You are being a very brave girl to take the first step and face where you are! You'll do just fine and I think you'll really enjoy the workout at Curves - from what others have posted it sounds like a high energy supportive and fun environment!

Just watch those countdown timers......we'll be there soon!!!! :Pinkbounc

No Worries Doe! I'll have to start checking out the hotels near our house and make sure their are hot tubs there ;)

Yesterday I did well except for dinner which was out of my control. It was Lasagna - which was good but definately not low carb.

Today I am back on plan and looking forward to it. There is a roast in the crockpot at home right now starting to cook and get ready for this evening. Plan for today:
B: 3 strips of bacon (0 carbs)
L: Tuna Salad - 2 carbs
S: 2 celery stalks w/2 Tblsp of veggie dip - 2 carbs
D: Roast and greenbeans - ?
S: blueberries w/Whip Cream -?
Exercise - Curves
Water - 8 glasses
Vitamins - taken

To do list:
1) Get together all travel information for Disney Trip
2) Put together a packing list
3) Call and confirm PS times

My Dad is suppose to talk to his Dr. more today. So hopefully I will find out more about the test being run this week during his 2 Dr.'s appointments.
I forgot to look at my Meditation today - I'll have to do it at lunch.

~Amanda

Hi Amanda,

I'm sorry to hear about the health problems with your dad. Keep us updated ok? I'll say a prayer for him.

I wish I was going to WDW with you all! I'll be thinking of you. Are you going to eat at LeCellier again? Oh how I can go for some of that O'Hana meal right about now. Have a wonderful, safe trip.

Your picture in the siggie is cute!

:faint:

You are kicking my tail! I agree - no worries there. ::yes::

I saw the new Curves on Hwy K when I was out in O'Fallon on Jan 1st. Is that the location you are going to? Nice and convenient spot. :)

Hi Amanda,
Sounds like you are well on your way to making the marathon!!!! You'll do great! I ran 6 miles in 60 minutes today. Wish I was going to the Half, too!!!

Sundie

Hi! Just checking in for this evening. I went to Curves and it was a pretty good workout. I think once I get more comfortable with the machines that it will be a great workout. I did okay food wise today although I did slip up a little this evening and had two chocolate candies for a total of 16 carbs. Total carbs today: 35 carbs w/the candy.
Water - 10 glasses

meditation: Let me notice today how many times I use work as an excuse for my inhuman behavior.

It looks like we're a go for Friday night - got your PM about the time and your early arrival! We'll be there!

I'll definitely be at Trail's End on Saturday at 4 PM for dinner, but I don't think Todd will be there.

I also posted to the CBR bus meetup thread. I'll be at Old Port Royale on Sunday morning at 3:15 AM and I'm waiting 10 minutes for any stragglers. Then I'm hopping the next bus! I really hope our rooms are close to each other. I will not walk through CBR alone at that hour of the morning and I truly hate to make DH get up just to walk with me. :p You can always give them my name at checkin and ask for a room that's close.... Then Brian can protect us both from any lurking Boogie Monsters! :teeth:

It looks like we'll be seeing each other a lot this weekend!

So happy to hear that your first trip to Curves went well! Now you'll have your post-half-marathon exercise plan in place when you get home! I need to start thinking about this too.

Best wishes for a wonderful day today!!!

:cool1: :cool1: Amanda and Doreen are walking the Walk! I'm so excited for the two of you! YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A BLAST! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

So, you liked Curves. . .well, now I'm going to have to think about joining after the National Body Challenge. There's one that just opened yesterday that's on the way to DD's school. I could take her in the a.m. and then stop in for a work-out, but I don't know if I'd like going alone. Were the people there friendly? How did the measuring go?

Have a great day, Amanda.

Erin

:D Morning!

Doe - I will call your cell phone on Thursday night and get your room number that way when we check in on Friday I will tell them I want to be close to you. Hopefully it won't be an issue. No matter what Brian and I will come and get you at the hotel room at 3:10a.m. so we can be at Port Royale together at 3:15a.m. okay?

Erin - Curves was great. The people there were really friendly. I didn't get measured last night since it was really busy. Ya know first day after all the holidays so it seemed they had a bigger crowd then usual. When I go on Wednesday I am going to ask to be measured. I did weigh myself on their digital scale.

Weight: 166.2 lbs. I have 25 pounds to lose.

Plan for today:
B: egg, ham, cheese - 2 carbs
L: Chicken Ceasar salad w/cheese bread
D: I am meeting my cousin after work to pick up some candles that I ordered from her. I told DH to just make whatever he wanted - I'll probably eat some sausage and cheese - or I might put something together.

Exercise: None tonight
Water - 8 glasses
Vitamins - just took them.

I also want to set some goals for January (thanks Erin for inspiring me) so here we go.

1. I will work out 16 days this month (the marathon will count as one of these days).
2. I will be down 5 lbs by the end of January

I think that is enough for this month. So far I have worked out 2/16 days.
