Depends on what you are looking for. As mentioned, Ama Ama is upscale dining so it's a quiet, more peaceful, prettier atmosphere with upscale/fine dining food options. Makahiki is much more casual and had many more food options. I'm a fairly picky eater, and the dinner menu at Ama Ama did not appeal to me so we went there for breakfast instead which was awesome. We made reservations at Makahiki for dinner at 6:30 - we were the first seating after the character dinner ended, and the restaurant really emptied out. It was only maybe half full so we had a nice table on the outside patio with no one around us, it was quiet, and we really enjoyed the food. Our server even brought us a special dessert afterward to recognize our honeymoon which was a nice touch.
