I live on a golf course. I back up to a fairway. Often the bad golfers hit balls into my yard. Rule of thumb, if they can seetheir ball is within 10 feet or so of my property line from off of my property line and want to retrieve it, I've got no problem with it.

That doesn't mean they can:

1. Drive their cart onto my lawn.
2. Wander around my yard for three or four minutes looking for balls--theirs and everyone elses. (Hey, my husband is a lousy golfer and we would go broke if we actually had to buy all the balls he loses. :rotfl: )
3. Hit the ball back into play from my yard.
4. Come right up to my house and poke through the river rocks to find thier ball.

In the past couple weeks I've dealt with all of the above, and a few minutes ago I yelled at a guy to get his damn cart off my yard (it's raining!) and get out of my shrubs. He was literally standing a foot from my house poking through the shurbs and river rock. He acted like I was nuts. I also called the clubhouse to complain.

There are signs on the course telling golfers to stay off private property, especially with the carts.

Was I wrong to tell him to get away from my house?

Absolutely not wrong! I would have freaked out to see a golf cart on my lawn, nevermind a stranger a foot away from my house! I know you're supposed to play the ball where it lies, but give me a break!

Actually if the ball lands on private property, you are supposed to pick the ball up and move it to the closest spot on the course to resume play, and take a one stroke penalty.

I would go out there with a butcher knife and tell them that if they are not off my property in 5 seconds that they will be leaving ALL their balls on my property...then, with a smile on my face I'd calming start counting backwards from 5... :) OK, I wouldn't really do that, but I'd sure like to. :rotfl2:

man! I don't blame you for calling the clubhouse. Can you give them a description of the guy? Maybe they'll revoke his membership??? That will teach him!

PS, one of my football players at school is from Clermont!! Small world huh?

I think I'd try to figure out how to put an electric fence up after a certain distance on your lawn. ;) That'd teach them to come snooping up farther than you'd like! :lmao:

That does stink though! I have always wondered *seriously*....do people who live on a golf course have to replace windows often??? :confused3 I mean I suck at my aim and I've always prayed when I shank a shot it doesn't go through someone's window of their home.

I would be upset too. Although you should not have to, is there anyway you can put up a rod iron fence? That is the only way I see that could prevent different people from doing the same thing in the future.

When I was growing up, we lived on a golf course. Rule was, if it landed in our yard, you couldnt even retrieve it. Lost ball, take the penalty. I think you should call the course and see if you can institute this rule. No way anyone was allowed to walk on someones property just to get their ball.

Maybe you could invest in a golf ball retriever to help them out a bit.

I guess thats one of the drawbacks to living on a golf course. Do they have a right? No, but it shouldn't be a surprise when they do it.

Can you post a sign at the edge of your yard, or see if the Golf Course can install more signs near the homes telling people to stay off private property.

I think I would put a small sign up saying the keep out--and possibly that Trespassers will be shot!

How do your neighbors handle it? Can you come up with some polite but consistent signage reminding the players of the out of bound rules? Is fencing out of the question?

I personally wouldn't want my property so exposed to so many strangers and never understood the appeal of golf course living. We live about six blocks from the closest course and many of those folks actually have metal grating on their windows. It is kind of ugly.

I have a sister that lives right off the course. She has those motion sensored water cannons to keep golfers off her property.

That sounds like fun!! I want one.

I would just keep calling the clubhouse and have them deal with it. Not sure if you have a HOA, if so, what do they say about it. Perhaps, you and your neighbors (I'm assuming, your neighors are faced with the same circumstance) can get together with the clubhouse and come to some kind of agreement. In the meantime, I would have a sign professionally made (so it looks like you mean business and it looks better then a homemade sign) stating no carts allowed on your property, no disrupting of landscape, etc...

Yeah, I think it was wrong to "yell at the guy and tell him to get off your damn property". Unless you have had to deal with this guy before, I would have just asked that he remove his cart and stay out of your shrubs. Not sure it helps to get nasty.

It sucks, but as phorse mentioned, that is something that comes with living on a golf course.

I was able to give them a description and saw the "golf course police" (the assistant course manager and one of the cart kids) go by on a cart a few minutes later, obviously headed to the tee these guys would ahve been at.

I'm sure they were given a stern talking to and a warning.

I can imagine how pesty some of these people can be. I've known of golfers to get so focused on their game that they don't even think about anything else during play.

I imagine that fences aren't allowed? I really don't know what I would do.
