We finally bought...signed, sealed, FedExed this afternoon.

Am I the only one who suddenly becomes "cheap" with the points?

I want to squeeze the most I can out of them...I don't want to share them...I haven't even told family that we've bought them.

I've become a DVC member and El Cheapo all in one day!

LOL, I don' think so. But I was cheap long before I bought DVC. I think there are two basic types of DVC members. Those who bought the points and don't want to think about it and just use them for what they can. And those of us that avoid weekends and when we spend out points is just like we're spending cash. I'm sure most people are truly somewhere in between though.

Welcome Home!

My DH and I are buying into DVC just for us and our 2 kids. We never have any intention of inviting anyone to share our room or our points. If they want to go then I'll be more than happy to help them plan. But to stay on my points/money...NOT ON YOUR LIFE. If that makes me cheap then let's be cheap together. :cool1:

We just did the whole sign and FEDEX thing yesterday! Congrats to you! It's an exciting feeling isn't it? We don't really intend on anyone using our points for free either. My parents travel with us sometimes (and our two children) but we plan on them giving us some cash towards the room. I didn't buy into this so other people could go for free. I figure another option is we use our points for the weekdays but my parent's give us cash to pay for the weekends, thus saving a good deal of points!!! ::MinnieMo We'll see. I'll have to figure out room costs for just the weekend nights and see what it comes out to!

We are at the opposite end of the spectrum from those who have posted. We often take guests and relatives with us and enjoy sharing the experience. We have a "summer home" that we do the same with. We love having friends and relatives join us there too. To us that is all part of the fun.

We usually do a group family trip every other year at our expense for the room. I guess that makes me frugal instead of cheap, LOL.

We've done DVC at OKW, VB and several Marriott HH beach trips. Last year we had 3 two BR units at Marriott's Grande Ocean and our entire immediate family was invited though my brother and his small family didn't make it, their loss as the reason was poor planning on their part (par for the course). Our next family trip will hopefully be a GV at OKW for Xmas, 2006. But in keeping with this thread, it will only be Sunday to Friday.

Well, I guess I am somewhere in the middle. I will happily take friends/family, but we are either going Sun-Thurs, or we are :crowded: into the smallest "legally possible" room for Fri-Sat (even if we have to split up into 2 studios). I guess I am "lavishly cheap"!!! :rotfl:

I guess I am somewhere in the middle, too. I won't mind bringing friends and relatives, as long as they don't expect everything to be free, and realize I am in charge of planning! :rotfl:

Well...I am actually letting my daughter bring a friend with her next year but it's not costing us anything extra. What I meant is that I'm not going to have 500 points so that I can get a 2 bedroom every year for people to go with us. If one person can squeeze into (and totally accept) my vacation plans then they can go. Otherwise, call 407-WDISNEY and get your own room.

It's funny...OP here...

I open my home to anyone and everyone. I cook mountains of food, provide gallons of alcohol, I even provide pool towels...but, when it comes to these points, I want them to last and last.

I'm sure it's just the newness of it all. I actually have a handful of friends I can't wait to invite down there. We've even told our 3 kids they can each invite a friend along on our end of summer trip.

Thanks to all those who posted...it was great seeing how everyone handles their points. I do love the idea of having the "guest" (non-DVCer) pay for the weekends in cash. That does seem like a fair way to handle it (they pay two nights and get 5 nights free) and make the points stretch that much further.
