Am I the only one too scared for Grizzly River?

I've spent quite a bit of time at DCA on my last two trips, but that's the one ride I won't do. We even stayed at Paradise Pier last time, thought about hitting it on a warm day before head back to the hotel, and we still didn't do it. It's that whole "absolutely soaked" factor that I just can't do. Back at WDW, we donned the ponchos for Kali River, but I haven't done it at DL yet. You?

Maybe I got lucky, but I barely got wet when we did that ride on our trip a couple years ago. Granted it was December so maybe the lowered the water level (we'll see if I'm lucky again when we're back for the DL Half in August), but I just got splashed a little. When we did the similar ride at Animal Kingdom this past January I did get drenched, but it was warm out and I was completely dry within an hour. To each his own I guess! :)

I was very reluctant to try it myself. Like you, it was the soaked factor that had me scared. But a couple years ago we were there in the spring or winter, weather was decent, we had a fast pass cause something happened on some other ride and DD got me to go on it with her. It is so much fun! Can't believe I missed out all these years. We go every trip now, if its open. Bummed its gonna be closed for our trip next week. I'm lucky in that I haven't gotten completely soaked yet but I definitely don't walk away dry. I say if the weather is warm, give it a try. My mom could care less about Splash, but even she loves GRR!

You got lucky!!! Lol
We went on a bunch of times, and it seemed to be luck of the draw. Some people barely got wet, and some got soaked!!! And it didn't seem to matter what part of the tire you chose. More about where you were positioned when going down. I did learn to keep my feet up in the middle though. We had such a fun time on that ride. It was the best watching the people getting drenched (which happened to be me once).

We've done Grizzly River Rapids when it is "warm", "hot", and when it is "not so warm".

It can be a bit daunting when you don't know "HOW" wet you are going to get!

Some times we've come off a bit wet, and other times, soaked.

The only time we didn't enjoy it, was when we got pretty wet, and it was "not so warm" outside---that was a mistake!:crazy2:

We actually really like GRR when it is hot out---it's a great way to cool off!(Just remember to bag up your belongings, or leave them in a locker, and don't wear white clothing;), which becomes see through when wet---don't ask me how I know that!!!)

If you really want to try it, definitely wait until it is warm/hot outside, OR when GRR would be the last attraction for your day, and you are headed back to your hotel---that way, it won't matter if you get drenched!:thumbsup2

I actually think that's why I haven't been on GRR in years. I can't remember the last time I went on it, and I dread the day my kids realize it exists. Lol

We haven't been on GRR in years (mainly because of the girls.) However, since we are staying at the GCH in July, I'm making it a priority. If we get soaking wet and want to change, we'll just run back to our room. :rotfl2: I'm just hoping that it'll be hot enough so that we'll dry off fast. Otherwise, I'm timing it before an afternoon break.

This is my boys favorite ride! We were going to be at Disney this week but it was closed so we are going in August instead. It is luck of the draw, our last trip, we must have road GRR 20 times! We would go to GRR, get a fast pass, go to the Wilderness Explorer Camp and come back. Sometimes we would get soaked, other times not so much. On the parts that drop, if your back is facing the drop, you will probably get really wet. Also, there are drains in the bottom that you can put your foot over because water would come up inside. Another rider told us that trick. We had a lot of first time riders every single time we went.

If you keep your feet up in the middle and your poncho on, you'll have nothing but fun!

Too funny. I think getting on the "raft" and looking around thinking to yourselves "Who's going to get soaked?" is half the fun. Last time we rode, it was me, my DD, and four young ladies that were possibly foreign visitors (They didn't speak English). They had so much fun laughing and pointing to each other as we all got soaked. It was great. One of our favorites in DCA. I don't judge anyone as far as their tastes in attractions go, but I don't quite get going on the GRR and wearing a ponco :confused3

My 5 year old would never go on this ride because he didn't want to get wet but we got him on it a few months back and now it's his favorite ride. He was so bummed it was down last time we went.

If you keep your feet up in the middle and your poncho on, ...

That's a great way to get your entire undercarriage wet, unless you're wearing shorts and have the poncho tightly wrapped all the way around the bottom of your legs.

Yep.

And the one that says anything about someone getting drenched? THEY are the ones who tend to get it. :)

I love Grizzly. OP, if you went on Kali, please go on GRR. It's so so so so so so much better! 1000x time more fun.

Put everyone in easy-dry clothes (down to the unders!). Take off socks. Put on sandals. If you're not going to poncho-up, make sure any females are in plain undergarments and tops that are not white. Trust me. Heck, same goes for the bottom half. No one wants to see what color underwear you have under your white shorts! :)

Exercise clothes are the best. They are light and dry fast.

Ride and have fun!!!

EXACTLY

Plus... It's only water. Jeez.
Yes! My boys, DH and I would all predict who was going to get it the worst on all of the drops. We tried Splash Mountain once and didn't get wet hardly at all. So, if we want to get wet, this is our ride of choice! No ponchos here! :thumbsup2

"It's only water"...famous last words!!! The first time I rode GRR, I did not know too much about the ride and made many huge mistakes. The first mistake was riding it at all at the time we did...first thing in the morning (our very first ride) on a cold October day. Guess who got soaked to the bone? And what was I wearing? Blue jeans, tennis shoes, etc. I was so freezing cold and miserably wet that I almost cried walking back to the hotel. I also lost a good portion of the morning.

Since then, I've ridden GRR many, many times. Sometimes I get soaked, sometimes moderately wet, sometimes a little splattered. If it's chilly, I wear a poncho. Scoff if you will, but it's the difference between happy DizMe and very unhappy DizMe. I happen to be one of those people who is almost always cold unless it's really hot outside. I love to go without a poncho when it's hot, but otherwise I have one at the ready. I also learned, as Bumbershoot mentioned, that wearing quick-dry clothing is much more comfortable for many reasons than blue jeans. I also have footwear that can get wet with no worries.

Do try the ride! It's very fun!! Decide if getting wet is an issue, and if so, take a poncho! I may be wrong, but I think those who say they prefer not to wear ponchos are men.

I had to laugh too. Another couple were boarding with us and didn't want the seats available to them as they were too wet! The CM said "ma'am, this is a WET ride, you know?!"

Ok.....one more try....darn phone!.....lol

Don't be afraid of Grizzly. It is a fun ride. I didn't become that damp, thank goodness. Lol.... I only needed to fix my face a bit, so I wouldn't scare anyone. ;)
I have been just once so far, and It was rather humorous, because the family that I was sitting with, were all fine as we began winding our way down the river, they were laughing, enjoying the ride, however, with each progressive splash, their son, about 9 years old, I'd say, was no longer amused by being splashed upon, when his laughter literally turned to tears of being an unhappy camper. Splash...cry....calm before the next wave hit....smacked by the splash, he cried more.... rinse.....repeat.
His family was trying to give him a pep talk, but he wasn't too happy until we came to the end of our river adventure. That poor kid was just soaked. It really was funny for us all, with exception of said youngin.

Last December my DD and I rode four times in a row. We had our swim suits and cover-ups on and headed straight for the GCH hot tub right after. The ride was cold but so much fun. Now, if I had to walk around the parks wet like some of those who rode with us did, I would not have been happy. My DD loved riding it and she is afraid to ride Splash Mountain! Go figure!

That is too funny! I think that really is the best part is laughing at the person who gets the most soaked. The kids had a hoot. First it was dh, then me.
Of course, we planned each time to ride it just before an afternoon break to our hotel, or at the end of the night.
