Am I the only one that would like to see a sub-board on the CB for war/terror topics?

There are some times when I really feel the need to talk about the impending war or terrorist threat issues - BUT there are other times that I just want to 'escape' and come to the CB for 'fluff'.

I think it would be great to have a sub-board (like WISH and Congratulations) at the top of the CB dedicated to world issues such as the impending war and terrorist threat issues (when/if they happen).

Are there any others that feel the same way? Is it even possible to have this done without alot of extra problems for the mods and webmasters?

Those threads always seem to end in debates. I like the idea of a seperate board for these issues.

I think if it can happen it would be great. There are times when I just don't want to see them. I don't open them, but just seeing them is enough sometimes to add a little depression. I don't mean to sound like I'm burying my head in the sand, because nothing could be further from the truth. I just don't need to see it 24/7.

That's a good idea. They don't bother me, but I know that many people come to the CB to escape that kind of thing.

I understand what you're saying Jody, and it's certainly something worth suggesting to the WMs. . .


But I know we went through a similar thing here on the CB during the disputed 2000 election. . . and like that, the war and the terrorism threat are subjects that are just such a part of most everyone's daily life it's next to impossible to keep them from being discussed in one form or another here. . .

All I can say is I'd hope any threads about them be clearly titled as such so those who want to avoid them can; and that everyone be respectful as possible and remember that people are just voicing opinions, and it's not fair to judge anyone solely on how they feel about politics.

Bet and I have some legitimate differences of opinion on a few points concerning those issues, but I still consider her a dear friend, and I respect and learn from what she has to say. .

As Kath said, I'm not sure if a separate board would be feasible; but if everyone (including me-I've certainly have been known to express things harsher then I should) would keep the discussions to the threads that are about them, and be respectful of other points of view, then hopefully it can continue to be discussed here and not drown out all the other topics people want to share. .

I think I'm in the minority on this one because I really wouldn't like a seperate board for these types of posts. I want to tell all my friends on the DIS about the things going on in my life, with my family, and other things that are on my mind. I wouldn't want to have to seperate whether I could post something about Ashli on the community board or a sub board based on whether it talks too much about Titus or something to do with him and that's what I would be forced to do in this circumstance.
In the weeks after 9/11 the community board was filled with posts about the attack on America. I read post after post about it because it affected so many DISers and they felt the need to talk about the different issues/situations arrising from it. Sometimes I got tired of reading about it because I was worried about the whole situation and would rather not think about it at times. But I wouldn't have wanted to relegate their posts to a sub-board because I was tired of hearing about 9/11 although the impact of that attack was much smaller on me, here in middle america, than it was on those that actually felt the vibrations, smelt the smoke, knew people who died etc.
I guess I'm just saying that at this point the impending war is affecting some of us more than others and we are posting a lot about it but please don't push us to the side because you don't want to read about it anymore. Just skip our posts if need be, I do understand that it's hard to think about at times.

I am one of those that USUALLY feels better 'talking' about these issues --- and since I work at home and alone I turn to the CB. BUT I have to admit that even sometimes I like to 'escape' from it. I am not really bothered by the fact of these posts (they are usually very clear and I can ignore them if I want) but I sometimes feel bad for starting a new post with these issues for fear that I will ruin someone else's 'escape' from reality.

I am really beginning to wish we had a separate board too. I just wish I could get away from the discussions that go on and the news announcements as well.
