Am I the only one scratching my head..over Disney's "healthy choices" ??

I agree. Seems that there should be some balance. I am still amazed that they have apparantly removed the healthy lettuce and tomato from the admittedly unhealthy figaro fries! That really doesn't make sense if they are truly pushing towards 'forced' healthy dining.

I say let everyone make the choice. We try to eat fairly healthy at home and even somewhat during vacation. But vacations are just that ... vacations from the everyday and those that want to splurge and eat things they normally wouldn't should be able to. Just my .02.
I think the Figaro Fry thing is because cheese and bacon was just more popular.

As for not giving us the option between white and wheat, and rather just forcing the wheat, all I can think of is that food cost will be screwy based on waste, or maybe they are implementing it slowly. I do hope there will be a choice, even though I am a wheat girl, my husband eats white only.

I am also hoping they offer some kind of choice by the time we go in September. I actually prefer the taste of wheat but dh absolutely hates it!!

They are forcing some people to eat something they don't want!!

I could say the same thing about white bread products?

I'd like to know of all those complaining, how many have actually tried the new products? To me, it seems most are just jumping on a band wagon? I have seen both good and bad comments regarding the new rolls. I say try it, you may just like it.

I agree that this is an economic decison as well as a dietary concern. If you are to offer a choice, you have the overhead of double purchasing. I believe Disney ran some strong Metrics on the Figaro fries and decided there where too many custom orders to them, and opted to change them.

I for one am keeping an open mind about this situation until I next vist the World next month and decide for myself.

I think it is more about dollars and cents than calories and fat grams.

Why not offer a choice? Because it isn't financially feasible, especially when you are talking quickly perishable bread items (buns). I'm sure the wheat bun and wheat crust vendors offered a pretty sweet deal....plus if Disney could give the appearance of being concerned and health conscious at the same time, then all the better for them.

Look at the recent events involving chickengate. The "official" reason for switching from strips to nuggets? Uniform portions (ahem... portion CONTROL). Why are restaurants interested in portion control? Of course. Revenue. And the downsizing doesn't stop there. Seen the recent posts about the missing Ken's Honey Mustard dipping sauce? Less choices for us=more convenience and less product loss for Disney.

Figaro fries? Easy/ Shredding lettuce and dicing tomatoes=time consuming and costly food prep work. Not having to do that saves Disney time and money and I'll bet the price of the Figaro Fries did not go *down* with the change.

It is so dissapointing. I expect to pay high prices when I go to Disney...and I would much rather pay a little bit more than I already am than to get downsized like this. :sad2:

jmho..

Well said.

didn't Disney just get an award from the acting surgeon general for their commitment to healthy meals for children?

If so, then this isn't going away.

Why do you say that? They already have the award. Mission accomplished!

:upsidedow

I used to say the same thing about the people who order a double quarter pounder, super sized fries, and then a diet coke. But then DW said, "Well, would it be better if they had a regular coke with it and add all *those* calories?"

Kinda OT, but I'm that person, and the reason I do it is because I always drink diet pop-I don't like the regular stuff. But I DO like to eat junk sometimes ;)

As for the changes, I gotta figure it's the "super size me" problem. When you eat Disney food for a week, you get sick. Ok, maybe not you, but me. I don't usually eat that way at home, so it's a nasty shock to the system to do it constantly for a week. If they can make it a bit healthier so I can tolerate it, then great! My kids love that there are vegetables and fruits available (yes, I know they're strange :rolleyes1 )

But they better not change my mickey bar :scared:

If they were truly trying to give people healthier options why did they not give people on the dining plan the choice of appetizer or dessert? I'm sure most appetizers are somewhat heathier than the desserts. It not about eating healthy but the money.

The variety of child choices is very limited and given DD has a wheat allergy someplaces impossible to order off the kids menu.
