I'm excited for the race, sure! I want to finish it and do the best I can and HAVE FUN! But I'm really not nervous.

Am I weird?

Just to edit so you don't think I'm totally nuts... I am a bit not happy about my shoe situation. I'd switched from my Asics GT-2150s to the new and updated GT-2160s in early December and they seemed to be doing well. Ran my 15K race and they were fine. Then I ran on Christmas and OUCH! The tie area lace eyelets come up so far on my foot it's putting pressure or something on that tendon that runs up from your big toe - the thing that pops up on the inside side of the top of your ankle if you leave your heel on the ground and raise your toes. I *think* I've figured out a solution for Marathon Weekend...but I'm bringing my almost done 2150s with me just in case. I think if the pressure thing is showing up, I'd be better off with more heavily used shoes. SOOOOO annoying!! After this race, it's off to the running store in search of some shoes that hopefully don't lace up that high. Coach - you were right! The shoe company's "improvements" aren't always improvements!

I'm a little nervous - but not about whether I will finish or not - more about how much it's going to hurt! :sad2: Since me knees were hurting pretty bad when I did my 10 mile and I haven't really done much since then in an effort to help them fully heal, I'm not really sure how they are going to hold up during the race.

Mostly though I'm just really, REALLY excited!

I am not nervous now - but I will be the morning of. It is just the nature of the beast. I haven't ever run the WDW Marathon before and just don't know what to expect minus what the veterans have shared with us. It isn't much about the event - just how I will do. I know at this point, there is nothing I can do and although I haven't had any IT band issues show up at all during my training this time around, I am incredibly nervous about that happening because it just wasn't fun at all. I have been on a hunt for the CW-X compression stuff and how is it that in a gigantic city like Atlanta none of the stores have my size. I would wear Small and one store tried to pawn off the Large to me. Yeah...I have a feeling the last thing those ones would be doing would be compressing anything. I know about the shoes - Nike changed mine right before the DL half and told me that they were the same and they weren't. It all worked out and I like them now.

I hope everyone has a great trip and I know everyone on the thread will do well. All we have to do is finish! I am just going to take it easy and try to enjoy the race. My goal is just to be able to walk comfortably after. That can't be too much to ask can it?!? We can all do this!:cheer2:

I'm not nervous, but then again this will be half marathon #23 and Disney half or full #11. In fact, I am also excited as this weekend's half with the my first of the year, with a goal of completing a half marathon each month of this year. :cool1:

I don't know...My brain has been on such overdrive about this race that I'm going crazy!

I DEFINITELY wasn't this nervous for my first half marathon last January. Excited beyond belief but not too nervous at all. But now that I'm trying to conquer the full? OMG I'm freaking out.

Maybe because all of my training runs for the half went 'decent'. They weren't all amazing but I never 'hit the wall'. Two of my training runs for the full were pure torture. I definitely hit the wall at my 22 mile run and it took a lot of talking to myself to finish that run. I know I'll most likely hit that wall again on Sunday and it scares me!

Must.Think.Happy.Thoughts. :)

I'll admit, I was a little nervous last month because I felt my right knee and calf acting up. I rested it for a while, until my 5k two days ago. I did another 5k yesterday and 10k today with no pain whatsoever. I averaged only 11:00/mile today, but it's still something!

All I'm looking forward to is running a long distance in above zero temperature. I imagine I'll coast for the first six miles, take a lot of photos at the castle, and then bolt for the last seven.

First, I am a little more anxious this year than normal. But it's still in the healthy range of anxiety. i just have not trained this fall like I wanted/needed. So, I know come Sunday morning I will be a little tighter than usual from the Satrday jog and Sunday afternoon is, welljust not going to be pretty. Even more so now that I may be off to DC Sunday night. Krikes.

Now for the Asics - --- I refuse to wear Asics, ever again. Mainly because they tend to have a great shoe followed by a not so great shoe then followed by a great shoe. Unfortunately, their model change in fall, right in the middle of training.

Yeah. I'm definitely going to try on other options once this race is done. I just don't want to do it with 5 days to go. UGH!

I too am not that nervous. I know I will be my normal nervous self Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday night and Sunday morning but at least I have been there done that before. Maybe that is why I am not that nervous. This is going to be my 2nd Goofy and I did the full the year before that. So I know I will be able to finish but I know I will be upset with myself with my finish times since my training has been very limited this year (only my weekly long run - although I did get all my long miles in when I needed to. It also helped that I just got back from 10 days in the mountains of NC where we got snowed in for awhile.

Funny thing is when I trained for my first marathon I made sure I stayed away from anyone sick and got alot of my training runs done. I was nervous I wouldn't be able to finish. I figured it would be my one and only. Then I decided to go Goofy and so last year my training was a little more consistant because I wasn't sure if I could do the back to back. I was able to do that. I am going Goofy again this year.

The one thing I am nervous about is that since I just got home from a vacation I won't be able to get all the things I need to get done this week before we leave.

Good luck to everyone this weekend

I would like a bit of your confidence/non-nervousness. :) I'm nervous about making sure I'm up in time, and finishing feeling good! These past couple days our household has been a bit under the weather. BUT - we're going to be full strength by the time we leave for Disney!!:D

Just as a thought about the Asics- if you really liked the 2150, you could buy some more of those. When a shoe I like is going away, I often buy 3 or 4pairs. (I go through a pair every 6 weeks.) In fact, after reading your post, I went and bought 5 pairs of 2150's. Since they were just discontinued they were waaaay less expensive. I only paid about $45 per pair after discounts at Road Runner Sports. (I'm not trying to advertise- just sharing a good deal.) Anyway, I don't know if it's a solution for the race but I hate trying to find a new shoe model...

I know exactly what you mean about Asics and their various models. I always run on their Kayanos and have taken to just buying a pair at a discount at whatever marathon expo I happen to be at. That strategy worked great until this fall. I bought a pair of the Kayano-16 to replace my Kayano-15, and they are completely different. Totally different forefoot cushioning, different toebox, and different lacing are the three things that really bothered me. Thankfully, I also bought a pair of the Kayano-17 which turned out to be as comfortable and well-fitting as the 15. Now I'm on a treasure hunt for the 15 because the 17 hasn't been widely released yet. Here's hoping they have some at one of the booths at the expo.

I don't think you're weird at all. If I didn't have doubts because of my ankle and being sick right now, I don't think I'd be as nervous as I am. Oh, and never running a full and going for Goofy. It all adds up for me. I would much rather just be excited, but instead I'm a stressed out mess.

This will be my fifth half marathon in the last nine months. However, the other four have been in the Indy area and all I've had to focus on is the race itself. With my first Disney Half, I've been worried about airfare, rental car, accomodations, park tickets, dinner reservations, issues at my job, etc...I really haven't had time to think about doing 13.1 miles. I've been training but the race itself hasn't been a major concern. I have a feeling that will change about 4:00 a.m. Saturday! I'm not worried about my time or getting a PR. I'm going to enjoy the race, take some pictures along the way, and just have a good time. I watched the Disney Christmas Parade with my daughter and I just kept thinking, "I'm going to be going down Main Street in two weeks." Pretty cool stuff.:cool1:

You've both got me curious now because I just started running and the running store put me in (after a lot of trips and tests) Asic Kayano 16s. I originally wasn't sure about them because it doesn't seem to feel quite right somehow but I never am able to adequately explain why it feels weird and I just assumed this style is made that way. I didn't realise the difference was not the whole shoe line but maybe just this year/model. I did like the off centre lacing due to past issues but the cushioning feels way weird.

If they don't feel right, I'd go back and get others. There are enough options out there you shouldn't have to settle for something that doesn't feel right. My thing was when I tried them on, they felt ok - a little slippy in the heels, but I knew how to fix that with lacing. It was after I did that and ran a little in them that this issue showed up.

I'm going to start exploring when I get done with the WDW Half. If it means I'm in a shoe that's not my favorite color but it fits me well, so be it. I'm done with trying to get cute shoes (design or color). Give me something that fits.

I was nervous but not freaking until 1am last night. :( Now I'm kinda freaking a little. :sad2:

As was just said, you definitely don't want to pay good money for shoes that don't feel right or don't work right for you. The Kayano-15 and the Kayano-17 have a completely different feel than the Kayano-16. I really love both models as much as I dislike the 16s. If you want to stay with Asics, I'd buy one of those models instead. The 15s are available from several online sources. Asics will have a booth at the expo, as will some other running stores, so you should be able to get the 17s at a discount there. I bought mine for $100 at the expo in San Antonio and am going to stock up this week now that I know the 16s aren't what I was hoping for.
