The Walking Thread

Thanks to this thread I have found a walking venue for the summer... the tall church community hall cast a long shade...I can circle the building and the sidewalk has a significant incline aerobically...on cooler mornings I can take my shoes off and walk in the grass....and I didn't realize I was that tall

Some more warmth.... solar farm on horizon behind poles... you and Tigger encourage me to walk... waiting for second Day of rummage sale

I think Tigger is motivating! I wish I had the time to walk that much!

Thank you for the kind words :) I was telling DH (who doesn't really get it a lot of the time) how beneficial the walks are for me, but I'm so glad my sharing can help others...even if it's not moving him. I know not everyone that would like to get out an get moving can...for one reason or another (no is everyone crazy enough to get out there in some of weather we've had), but it's rare for me to regret doing it when I do.

Speaking of weather... @WLWildlife severe weather like that can be pretty traumatizing for kids, even if you're spared. I'm usually a nervous wreck with any kind of severe weather.

I'm going to be really jealous if you say you guys have that nice soft grass...like Bermuda. We have St. Augustine, which doesn't exactly feel the greatest when going barefoot.

Happy Saturday (night)!

It's been a long and very active day. I set out early and made a long goal with a wide variety of exit plans in case my body had other ideas. I set 15 miles as the goal, although the route I mapped was 15.19. It was supposed to be a nice and easy pace...which turns out to still be pretty fast. I made a wrong turn at one point because I was so into it that I ended up tacking on some extra mileage. I thought it might even out because I changed my route to hit up the bathroom at Kroger but it was still more than planned. In any event, I got to some of my favorite places, and not only did I not need any of my exit routes...I went a total of 15.52 miles. In fact, in mile 13, I got a burst of energy to the point that I bumped up to nearly tempo pace and felt like I could go on for at least another 2 miles. I didn't, but I could have if I wanted to. I changed up some things with nutrition and hydration that also probably helped.

Many of the spots should look familiar but I was in total daylight today. It was also a gorgeous and sunny day. I think it was low 60s when I set out and low 70s when I got home. There were also a bunch of feral cats along the way, but the one pic I got of one is kind of pretty. I also came close to crashing another local 5k (lots of people with bibs and medals) and I found myself trying to make my way through a local protest. It wasn't meant to be a statement from me...I just wanted my miles.

Yay! Walking makes you feel good- as long as you are hydrated. I bet the walking is stretching your legs!

Very beautiful! And I LOVE the picture of the cat!

15 miles is very ambitious! The most I ever walk is 3. I can't even get 1 mile in. Today, there was snow on the ground again when I woke up😱😡😭 and the temps never got out of the 30s. 🥶

Yeah, I 've been through it myself. I was just caught off guard because I didn't know anything about it since it wasn't that severe where I live. All of my students have experienced trauma so they are often easily distressed.

After your snake pics, I would not be walking anywhere barefoot.

Me too!

I enjoy walking outside, but prefer to do that with company. My neighbor is a teacher, so we walk a lot in the summer.

During the winter or bad weather, I walk on a treadmill here at the house, and have been putting my miles into a spreadsheet since we got it. If you add it all up, I've almost walked to Disney World! ::MickeyMo

Hydration and nutrition are really important with long distances. It’s a bit of an experiment because different people respond better to different options, amounts and timing. Yesterday, I had a mini bottle of pickle juice in the mix but I think it might be easier to carry salt tabs. I also hate all of the little gels but was pretty good with jelly beans. Some say it’s too heavy but I really like the protein bar in the mix.

I’m sorry winter is still hanging around. I know heat is more preferable for outdoor activities but it won’t be long before it really takes a hold here. We also have some stormy weather expected next weekend so I might be stuck on a treadmill. I can handle it for a bit but it’s hard to be on a machine for hours.

Happy Sunday!

I was aiming for something between 8-10 miles today. I went 9.06. I wasn’t feeling great. My pace was casual and still speedy but I let DH talk me into dinner with a few drinks last night. We did something similar last weekend and my stomach was not happy. It was even worse this weekend. I know he says I’m no fun but I think it’s just my body responding to things I don’t need.

I got several pics down at the lake today including one of a bridge im often on around sunrise. I saw another feral cat as well as a skink for @citruscurtis .IMG_2591.jpegIMG_2593.jpegIMG_2594.jpegIMG_2596.jpegIMG_2598.jpegIMG_2597.jpegIMG_2600.jpegIMG_2601.jpeg

Side note…as much as I’m not ready for the heat, I need pollen season to end. I come home feeling like I’ve spent the whole night in a smoke filled bar.

9 miles is awesome! Especially if you aren't feeling up to par. It hit 56 today and mostly cloudy, but I was able to take a walk today! This is taken from the road. Very little traffic this afternoon. I walked 3 miles.
