Am I the only one not concerned about conserving points?

I am a brand new DVC member, haven't even signed the papers yet, but I read a lot of threads about people wanting to conserve points and even spending cash to do so. Now maybe it's just because it is very difficult for me to drive to WDW, but I am not all that concerned with conserving points. I'm buying enough points for me to go at any time of the year. The way I see it is that my yearly points are my ration for that year. If I use them all, so be it. I'd rather enjoy my trip and get what I want without worrying about saving points. Anyone else with me?

;)I spend my points as I wish never banking but always borrowing. I never spend cash on stays why should I...so I am not worried:banana:

I unfortunately didn't do enough research prior to joining so I am point poor and constantly borrowing. That's okay. Now I am taking a vacation in September that is a cash vacation. I do plan on adding on someday but am not able to now.

I am with you. I will be using up my points each year. When I bought, I did so with the understanding that I would be staying 5 nights a year in a 1 bedroom or 8 nights a year in a studio.

We travel in the summer, which is Magic season, so if I want to go at a different time of year, I might get a few more nights.

But for me, it makes no sense to spend cash for a trip when I have the points. If I find myself going year after year and having to borrow all the time, then I will consider an add on.

I ALSO BOUGHT ENOUGH POINTS TO SATISFY MY VACATION NEEDS . BUT THIS YEAR WE WERE A BIT CONSERVATIVE SO NEXT YEAR FOR MY SONS GRADUATION WE CAN STAY LONGER AND ALSO GET A 2 BEDROOM. SO WHATEVER WORKS :cool1:

I don't worry either! I am much more concerned about having too many points in a year and losing them so we stay when we want;-)

I bought DVC because I wanted to avoid paying cash for rooms, and my hope is that I've purchased enough points to avoid having to pay cash. I've already gotten our trips through 2012 planned, and right now, we will only have to pay cash for DD to cruise with us in June, 2010 (we booked the rest of the cruise on points). Other than that, we're staying on points all the way through 2012.

We plan our vacations and use the points we have, if we run out of points and still want to make a trip we will borrow from the next year and as a last resort pay cash only if we have to. But we will never pay cash instead of using points that we already have.

I don't conserve points at all. I bought enough for 2 weeks in a Studio each year because that's what we expected to enjoy until we took our extended family of 9 with us in a GV in 2008. Now we are about 25 points shy of what we need to stay in a THV every year (but I would never rely on the availability even at 11 months) which is what would be best for us all. We expect that my brother will buy his own points in the next five years and my parents may too so we really aren't too worried and we'll add on too. We changed the way we planned to travel to make it work for our family but we're not greedy or conservative with points at all!

When we joined DVC, we bought enough points to stay 6 nights each year in a 1 BR savannah view at AKV (our home resort) during early to mid-December, which is our typical time of year to visit WDW. Now that they've re-allocated the points charts, we're 2 points shy per year, but I'm not worried about that too much, LOL.

That being said, right now we like to take 2 trips to WDW each year when it's possible. So we have the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express card, which we use to get free nights at the Swan/Dolphin. That enables us to take a short trip in the spring, which we really enjoy doing.

So ultimately I'm not trying to save points, but we do take a "cash" trip each year right now. We knew we'd have to do that when we bought into DVC though. One day we'd love to do an add-on, but right now that just isn't the best financial move for us to make.

I agree!
We have been members for 12+ years. We bank some and borrow some, but we refuse to spend cash for Disney stays. We already paid that cash when we purchased. Sure, sometimes we have to cut down on the size villa or a specific location, but we find it easy to live within our 449 point boundry.

We had enough for 2 studios (one for us and one for one of our kids and their family) twice a year...but the family is growing so we added more points this month. I would never pay to stay!
