Am I nuts for wanting to buy this stroller?

Yes, another stroller question!

For our past two trips, we've rented a City Mini Double from Orlando Stroller Rentals. My girls are 6 and 4 and we love it. LOVE it.

We have trips planned for 12/09, 3/10 and 6/10 for a total of about 25 days. Our total rental fee will be about $300 total. I can buy a City Micro Double for $300.

It seems obvious because I can just sell it after our trips, if I'd like, and recoup a good amount of money. However, I seriously only anticipate using it on those trips. We almost never use a stroller anymore - no less a double. Yet on our trip last week, even my older daughter really wanted to ride in it rather than walk. And frankly, I can't argue. It keeps the gals contained so the chance of them getting lost in a crowd is far less than if they were walking. Plus, with them in the stroller, we move a lot faster and last longer because they don't get tired from walking.

My DH is VERY against making the purchase - though I can't quite figure out why. He's a perfectly rational guy, but for some reason strollers are his hot button issue. We have a single jogging stroller in our garage that we rarely use and that just irrates the crap out of him. LOL I'm definitely willing to sell it, but we're not 100% sure we're done having kids.

So what do you think? No brainer, buy it and tell hubs to get over it? Or just rent and don't deal with having another piece of baby gear hanging around the house, taking up space?

My last concern is the size difference between the Mini and Micro. I just emailed Baby Jogger about that because I can't find specs anywhere.

I would figure out how many more times I would use it going to Disney and then how much it costs to rent.

I have a City Jogger the full size that I primarily use for Disney and love it.
Mine is a single but my little guy is only 21 months but there are times my 7 almost 8 year old sits in it. which is part of the reason we bought it

Hello
Going to DW in 10/09 . Having the same issue with the stroller(husband) I have 3 kids 7,4 and 9 mnths. Can I go on line and look at this stroller? (Tell the husban if you buy the stroller at least you can sell it and get some $, but if you rent you get NOTHING.)

I would go with this logic. Also check out your local craigslist listings to see if there's one available there. We have a Pliko P3 that we hardly use except for Disney and the very occasional trip to the local Mall. We're hoping to add to our family in the next year and if that happens, we'll buy a double and sell the Pliko.

I would never spend $300 for a stroller for Disney or rent for that price. We also had children that only needed a Disney stroller. We bought a $65 Jeep all weather double umbrella stroller and it worked out great. Perfect fit for our kids (4 and 5.5) and it was not expensive. It also folds up great for the busses.

I'm the stroller queen at my house. DH just rolls his head when I come home with them (mostly from garage sales). I haven't bought any new ones this year so far!

Do you use ebay or Craigslist? I would show your DH how these things sell on there! You'll more than likely get back a good chunk of your money and if you do add to the family then you'll keep this one for longer for the 2 littler ones.

Good luck!

For the poster who wanted to see the stroller, here is the City Micro Double. http://www.diapers.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18403

For the others, thanks for your thoughts! I wish I could find one on eBay or Craigslist. I'll keep looking. My only issue is that if I find one that's used, yet still a chunk of money, I'd almost rather have a new one I can sell myself. *shrug* All of your points are valid, though.

I have a lot of strollers, and four children... so they all have a reason :)

How do you travel to Disney? If you fly, and your children are already old enough you do not need it for the airport, I might go with the convience of the rental.

If you drive, or may use it in the airport (even to carry bags and car seats), I'd buy.

GL :)

I recently purchase the city mini single (~$230) for an upcoming trip in October. I've been using it for about a month now and its the best stroller I have ever used and totally worth the $$!! My daughter is 3 and still napping in the afternoons and this stroller is fantastic! She fits comfortably with plenty of head room, the almost full recline and large canopy are great and its a dream to push and steer. I have used 2 other strollers (Graco and Peg PeregO) prior to purchasing the city mini and only wish I would have found the city mini sooner!!

Not sure if this helps you decide, but I would NOT go with the Micro since your primary (only?) use is for DW trips. The Micro does not have the great sun canopy the Mini has, which to me is one of the best features, especially for Disney. I think it also has less of a recline (if you use that), a smaller basket, and only one harness position. They weigh about the same.

IMO, there's a lot of benefits of renting, especially the fact that you don't have to worry about getting it there and back every trip. I have a City Mini single, and I plan on renting a double when we get there, and I'm glad I don't have to worry about my stroller in the park.

I do see your point, but I don't think its really a "no brainer"...there's a lot of convenience in renting and I don't think I'd give up the Mini for the Micro.

Yep! I can't imagine paying $300 for a stroller. That's a lot of Mickey bars and Dole Whips! Mine would be walking.

I guess if it were me I'd buy with DH's agreement. It seems like you'd be willing to part with it when the time came and I'd imagine you'd get a fair amount back once you did on the investment.

I buy every stroller everytime (DH tolerates it well) so I may not be the most unbiased ;). I've bought several strollers for exclusive WDW use that were more $; so I don't feel like with what they charge for rentals that $300 sounds bad.

I bought the BJ City Classic when my dd was 5! only for WDW trips. She wears braces on her feet, so prolonged standing can be painful and the BJ is by far the best stroller I have ever ever had. I personally like having our stroller around the resort, monorails, DTD, and airport so renting is not appealing to me. The resale value of a BJ is very high, so I would think you will be able to get back a lot of your $$ when you decide to get rid of it. If your two options are to rent or buy I would buy. Check out www.albeebaby.com They run sales on the BJ often and shipping is free over $100. I have bought all of my baby gear from them & have never had a problem. Keep an eye out for closeout colors etc.

I would - I love strollers. Although it is kind of hard to justify for a 4 and 6. Just tell him you will sell afterward and will probably re-coup $225ish on it. It's an investment!!

Get it!!! I love my baby jogger city mini...awesome!!! You can sell it on craigslist after! Tell DH not to get his shorts in a bunch! :lmao:

Last year I bought 2 Maclaren Volo strollers - my boys were nearly 5 for our 1st trip. The strollers made three great trips to WDW (one with the 5yo twins next door).

Just sold one for 1/2 what I paid and have the other listed on Craigslist. Totally worth it IMO and DH agrees.
