So I've been around these parts long enough to know that the general rule is that it's always cheaper to book your room and tickets separate..

So I was on the quest to book my family 4 (mom, dad, 10, and 6) a six night trip as cheap as I could without giving up walking distance, etc.

And I found the Anaheim hotel (we have stayed here before) through a travel package with Disney that included 5 days of 1 park per day and genie + for 6 nights in October for $2867.

for comparison the same trip not in a package But with a direct booking with the hotel and tickets separate would be $3600 with room and tickets.

the same package through getaway today is 3200.

I booked it through Disney. But I keep thinking I'm missing something. I'm attaching screen shots of the reservation (no identification). I keep re checking it that I actually booked 6 nights October 12-18 and 5 day tix with genie..

also does anyone know why getaway today is charging $460 to add genie? It should be 20x4x5=$400

Are you 100% sure you have tickets for every member of your party? The picture you shared doesn't show that detail. I definitely see 6 nights at the hotel.

Yep. We are all on there and the $400 for genie would make sense for the 4 of us for 5 1ADA2891-BE69-4A3F-BB5E-CC3015B507D8.jpeg1ADA2891-BE69-4A3F-BB5E-CC3015B507D8.jpeg

Just seems like a pretty good deal for 6 nights, 5 days of tickets, and genie+. Was surprised it was cheaper booking through Disney.

Hotels sell blocks of rooms at a discount to Disney and then Disney sells them as part of a package. Hotels also adjust their rates as the dates approach so depending on demand, the room could be cheaper or more expensive. This many months out, it's likely that the room rates on the hotel website are arbitrarily set on the high side. If there's no major conferences or high demand, it's highly likely the prices will drop at some point. Since Disney and the hotel adjust prices independently, you'll sometimes see Disney be cheaper.

I don't think you're missing anything. It just so happens that at this point in time, the Disney package is cheaper but it's possible that sometime in the next few months, the price of booking separately will be cheaper.

I assume that Getaway today is adding their cut to Genie+ assuming that most tourists wouldn't know any better.

Sometimes it's just cheaper! I took a 3 night, 2 day trip there in December and after doing the math, the Disney package was significantly cheaper than booking separately. (Sometimes they give you one night free on a Good Neighbor hotel if you stay a certain amount of nights, so that can absolutely reduce the price.)

I have been pricing both ways and it really just depends on when you're traveling and what Disney is offering.

Thanks all! I was worried I missed something like a ticket or something but I looks like I just got a good rate!

We got a deal like this precovid, and we rechecked it 10 times before booking, thinking along the same lines you are, but did book and everything turned out great, they even upgraded us the day we checked in at the hotel. What I really appreciated about the package was that everything (hotel, tickets, maxpass) was refundable up until 30 days before. We were wanting to be there after Star Wars opened, but were worried about when actual opening would happen, so that flexibility in the package was nice.
