They’re from your 12/19 UY? That would mean that they were borrowed into your 2018 UY (Oct. 2019 is in your Dec 2018 UY). So, you have 2 things working against you. You cannot unborrow points or, assuming that they are actually 2018 points, you are months past your banking deadline.I booked a week in October, however I had to cut 4 days off. These points are from my use year 12/19. Since I cannot bank them, will I lose them if I don't take another trip this year?
Other then in cases of hurricanes, MS doesn’t give exceptions to unborrow. They have been known to allow a member to bank late with a one time exception but not with borrowed points.Agree with PP, if you cannot bank them and they were borrowed from the next year, then call MS and ask if they can do one-time exception and allow you to un-borrow them. Wishing you the best.
If Member Services can't help you (and they most likely won't), then your best bet is to try to rent them out, and the most efficient way to do that is through someone like David's Vacation Rentals. https://dvcrequest.com They often have requests for Aulani, or a day or two here or there. However, they don't like to handle only small numbers of points, so you might need to be willing to throw a few more in. Still, I would definitely consider this and email them or call them.
Your points are probably Holding Points at this point, if you made your change within the 30 day window. Holding Points can only be used to make a reservation that is no more than 60 days out.
However, holding points or not, there is another possibility you might consider: Even though all the resorts and rooms are booked up between now and the end of November (your points will expire December 1st), there are a lot of people who cancel at 31 to 35 days out, so that THEY can avoid holding points) and single days (and sometimes multiple days) become available at many surprising locations. This is a fluid and flexible thing, and would require you to CHECK for availability at all resorts, multiple times per day. But, if you did this, you would undoubtedly find a day or two, here or there, popping up at some nice resorts. And if they do, then you could go grab it and make a reservation for yourself, and then put the reservation out on the boards for rent.
In any case, if you rent them out, I would not price them at more than about $12 a point, since you really want to MOVE them, and get SOMETHING for them. I try to get $18 or more per point for my points when I make reservations many months in advance, but I have rented them for as low as $12 in the past, in situations just like this.
If you price the points low enough, SOMEONE will probably figure out a way to use them, and pick them up. At least you could cover your Maintenance Fees, plus a bit more.
This is true. They might need to do it all themselves. HOWEVER, if you check the boards multiple times per day, you will find that in the 30 to 35 day window a lot of rooms open up, one or two days at a time, at many resorts, as people who booked, "Just in case" decide they won't be going or using those reservations, so they cancel them so that they can avoid holding points. The problem with renting them out is not how to do it but the availability right now. There is very little available right now for October and November...the only months left for the OPs points to be valid.
So offering them to an agency, even at a distressed price, wonT yield a rental if there are no rooms to book.
Typically maybe, but not in October and November. But if someone is looking for just one night, and doesn’t care able it room size, then there would be a possibly to use up some points. This is true. If the OP reserved a single night in a good location, they could almost certainly go on the Rental boards and rent it out.
It is definitely a hassle, but if they are going to lose the points otherwise?
