Am I just old-fashioned?

oohhh yyyeeaaahhh we definitely want to teach our daughters to be ASHAMED of their BELLIES.... god forbid anyone see their...BELLY and *GASP* belly button.

yeah, that's a great thing to do to them! over-sexualize them at age three!!! Great Idea :thumbsup2

Yes, you are being too old fashioned and no they don't even notice these things, and yes you are doing your daughter a disservice even commenting on this.

in your humble opinion. :rolleyes2

somebody needs a hug today. :grouphug:

I don't think you should be suprised, did you watch the Lilo and Stitch Movie? In the movie Lilo's sister Nani wears a half shirt showing off her belly.

Hey, I don't know what your Dish offers, but you might chekc if you have access to Toon Disney (they have Mickey, etc.) another great kids channel is Noggin by Nickolodean (it's geared to preschoolers). There's also a great new channel our cable provider just got that's called PBS Sprout that had preschool appropriate shows from PBS all day. Gosh it sounds like we do nothing but watch TV! Honestly it's more that they seem to run the same shows over and over so I start looking for new channels. Anyway, HTH!

Let me repeat what I said before. Toon Disney is not for Toddlers. It has nothing (unless you want to count House of Mouse, which contains many, many jokes aimed at the adults who are watching it with their kids - why else would Mr. Toad steal a car, and take off, with it being announced that Mr. Toad was taking a "wild ride") for anyone not in grade school.

To the OP, Lilo and Stich, despite the fact that it's a cartoon, is not aimed at toddlers. If you're complaining about Kim Possible showing her navel, Lilo's sister, Nani, shows her's as well, and she's not just a guest star.

Yes, you can watch the old cartoons on Boomerang, but *WARNING* you get liberal propaganda (just this morning, my DD6 watched "Captain Planet") and the first sexualized teenager on Saturday morning cartoons (Daphne in Scooby Doo). I don't find this so terrible (DW and I just showed my DD6 Who Framed Roger Rabbit) but you might.

How can you do a 3 yr old a diservice by commenting on a msg board?

Thank you noodleknitter. I am not a crazy overprotective mama;in fact, I'm far from it. We are very liberal in our ideas and way of living. The being old-fashioned question referred mostly to my preference for old cartoons. While I was surprised by the extra character on Lilo I wasn't quite ready to sue Disney for carrying pornography! :rotfl: What I do worry about are teen and pre-teen girls who wear inappropriate clothes. No, I don't think anyone should be ashamed of their body, nor do I think they should flaunt it either. I think the way girls(and women) are portrayed in the entertainment industry is the biggest reason for low self-esteem among young girls. How often did you hear about anorexia or bulimia before these stars made it seem almost fashionable? And yes, I do put cartoon characters that children spend a lot of time watching in the same category as Hilary Duff, Lindsey Lohan and the rest. Feel free to criticize my beliefs, but don't ever say I'm doing my child a disservice by simply being concerned. If I didn't care, I wouldn't be a very good mother.
