Am I just being unrealistic?

i agree with the pp, i was at YC in april and the room was clean every day. you DEFINITELY deserve a clean room. the front desk manager is your best bet.

**update! So I went down and spoke to Alexis, a very pleasant, personable and empathic manager. I tried to not be negative Nancy, but to also communicate how gross it is to still have other peoples hair in my room after 3 days (amongst other issues). She apologized genuinely, and offered us a credit to our room. It was such a pleasant and courteous exchange. Now I can consider staying on site again. My husband was so not impressed with our room, though he has enjoyed the pool and grounds. I just knew we weren't even going to try another disney property. Thanks Alexis!

She also agreed to speak to housekeeping and have someone come to our room and clean shortly after my daughter wakes up in the morning.

Yuck
I was given a room like that at BLT last year. Really banged up and in disrepair, and filthy (other peoples mess, hair, fingerprints, pizza sauce on the curtains, dead spider in a web hanging from the table, etc). I have a hard time complaining but I did complain multiple times--I don't want to live in anyone else's mess! Housekeeping came back a few times but when I checked out, the same dead spider was hanging from the table and the same lollipop was stuck to the carpet. It was gross and a really bad experience for the price we paid to stay there, so I don't blame you one bit for being disappointed.

When I got home I wrote a letter detailing all those issues (with plenty of praise for what WAS great about my trip, including a stay in a well-maintained room at YC). I got a phone call a few weeks later from an excellent CM who asked me to re-tell the whole story, and who offered compensation for my nights at BLT. I didn't ask for compensation (though it was appreciated) -- I just wanted to sleep in a clean room.

She mentioned that if I ever had issues like that again, I should insist on speaking to a manager at the desk. They're the ones who need to know if housekeeping is slacking, or if a room is in poor shape. It's unfortunate but complaining to a random CM at the front desk isn't very effective; they'll send housekeeping again but that's about all they can do.

I'd go down and speak with the front desk manager. It's not wrong to express your disappointment about the room, or to say "Hey, my room was not cleaned properly upon checkin." Even if the room is clean now, the manager should know that housekeeping dropped the ball...and there's no way your room was the only one they skimped on that day. They can't fix what they don't know about.

And really consider writing a letter to WDW once you're home, even if the situation is resolved while you're there.

I can't believe they put you in a room like that! So obviously filthy!!! A night in a deluxe is more than my car note, it's amazing such a place could be dirty for a new guest. We usually stay at Waldorf, Hilton Bonnet creek, or a vacation home, and I've never had such problems. None of those places cost like the YC either. I did not get into every single issue with the manager, but she said she would contact me again to follow up, so I will give her the rest of the story for informational purposes at that time. She had already offered the credit and to make sure my room got a real cleaning before I got to some of the issues in the room. It was so not magical to open our door for the first time and say, "what's that substance on the doorknob? And what IS all that black stuff on the wall!?

.

It was truly disgusting. The sheets were clean and the bathroom counters were sparkling, so housekeeping had been in--they had just picked and chosen what they cleaned. I wouldn't be surprised if the dead spider is still there.

YC is my very favorite place, and I'm sorry you're having this issue there. I stayed there twice last year and the worst I saw was some peeling wallpaper, but some rooms, like yours, are reported to be in really rough shape. Even though my rooms have been clean upon arrival, I found housekeeping to be hit or miss at YC otherwise--coming back at 5 to a room that's not clean yet, or they make the beds but don't vacuum, etc. I don't mind too much when it's a mess my own family made, but it's disappointing and makes me feel like a jerk for paying Disney's prices.

YCs much-needed refurb is due to start this fall. Hopefully the new rooms stand the test of time, and make the prices seem a little easier to swallow!

I'm glad you've gotten some resolution, and if they don't follow up, make sure you do!

It's amazing how beat up these rooms get. The Grand Floridian was refurbed last year, and we stayed in December. I was amazed at how dirty and stained the brand new sofa was, after less than 6 months. We put a blanket over it. But our room smelled and looked clean, so there's just no excuse for the dirty condition the OP experienced.

I'm really glad the manager was sympathetic. With a refurb about to take place, I'm guessing there's nothing they can do about the room looking tired and worn. But the dirt is another story entirely and there is no excuse for housekeeping not cleaning the room properly.

Glad that you spoke to a manager. It is getting a full refurb, not just updates, but that doesn't excuse being dirty. We will be staying at Beach Club in a week. They are still finishing up the 1st floor rooms. I believe they started the refurb in October so it's takes a while to get them done!

Thanks, I think I will mention it to someone. I didn't realize it was due for renovation until right before we got here, but it's not quite as magical as I expected. Although, it is kind of 2 separate issues. Not great bathroom cleaning, and then a room that needs love...would I crop by the same desk as is used for checkin?

Yes, it's set to be refurbished soon, but did they lowered the cost knowing this? You're still paying a lot for it and deserve a clean room!

Alright everyone, apparently I spoke too soon. We went to the pool early and stayed until 12:50, thinking our room was cleaned first thing in the morning. NOPE! The woman was just getting started! Unfortunately, we had 2 fastpasses that we had scheduled that we would likely miss, not being able to clean up quickly and run out. So I spoke to another manager, and she offered us 3 fastpasses for the inconvenience. Either way, I found myself back downstairs in the lobby with a soaking wet toddler and a pile of pool toys. Needless to say, I was annoyed. And the housekeeper acted a bit annoyed that I told her I needed to get in and get some things for the baby. I realized I should have put the pool toys in the room instead of piling them up on a couch, so I went back up. She had actually REMOVED the plate that goes with the magic band reader. I hadn't seen this done before. I assume that's so I can't get in? The other rooms being cleaned did not have this done. So I waited outside the door and when she opened it, I went in and put the toys down. All she could say then was, "I just have to vacuum, I'm almost done". So now I'm more ticked, as it's over a half hour later and the room is still not done. Long story short, someone's hair is still on the inside of the shower (the hair outside the shower was cleaned yesterday) and it's obvious they do not clean the shower walls. Never apparently. I think I'm through with disney resorts

For all the housekeeper knew you were out for the day. Not everyone can get their room done first thing. I get it is a pain when it is done later, but somebody's has to be. But yet again, the room should have been properly cleaned. My guess is this time she rushed as you were obviously not happy she was in your room.

It is beyond strange that the plate for the magic band reader was gone. Are you sure she removed it, or was maintenance doing something? I have no idea why your housekeeper would take it off.

You are having two issues really. A banged up room refurb can take care of, but cleanliness has nothing to do with refurb. You can have the newest furniture in the world but if it isn't clean it doesn't matter. Housekeeping is slacking off which shouldn't happen at any price, but certainly not at Disney deluxe prices.

I don't get why the rooms aren't fixed unless it is a full refurb. Broken items (GF room had Mickey lamp missing tip of nose) should be replaced, they have to have extra parts somewhere and dirty sofas should be steqm cleaned. If there isn't time during the day when the room is in use, do it before assigning to next guest.

The manager told her last night that they'd send housekeeping up first thing this morning. That's why they spent all morning at the pool- to be out housekeeping's way so their dirty room from prior guests could finally get cleaned properly.

It says shortly after her daughter was to wake up. That could mean anywhere between 7 am and 11 am. Disney should have been more clear with the time.

Even if they had shown up at 11am, OP did not return to the room until
Almost 1pm, which is definitely past the time any child would be waking up and definitely not morning. OP wrote that housekeeping had just started cleaning at 12:50.

It doesn't sound like the manager alerted housekeeping to the actual issues with the room, considering housekeeping yet again didn't clean up the hair. My guess is the manager never said a word to housekeeping about any of it, which is why housekeeping was in the room at 12:50.

Unrelated but this is why I bring chlorox wipes with me and clean the tub myself anytime we are in a hotel. Hotels are so germy, and you're at the mercy of whoever was the last housekeeper. I had a friend who used to manage hotels and she says never use the in room coffee maker- she would catch maids using the same rags they used to clean to toilet to clean to coffee maker.

I am sorry that your room is not up to par and I would definitely tell the manager. Disney's housekeeping has gone downhill the past few years. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge last year and the room still had garbage on the floor on arrival day. The public areas are not even being maintained as they should. There was a nice film of dust on the furniture in the hallways and by the elevators. One day someone placed a coke can on one of the artifact cabinets and it stayed there until the day we left.

Ugh, I feel really bad for you. I'd be livid, too. Your room should have been a top priority for housekeeping this morning. Keep complaining to managers, even though it's a huge downer, and please keep us posted.
