Am I insane to consider spring break? Advice!

Thinking about our spring break. Was hoping end of Jan but that’s not happening. Summer I can’t handle the heat. Our spring break is the week leading up to Easter, so I’m thinking maybe the early side not Easter wknd. The 9th - 13th. Is it a horrible idea? I know the parks, I know what to do, genie+ I’ve used etc. So Im not a newbie by any means. But also I don’t want to go and it feel shoulder to shoulder like videos I’ve seen this week & unmanageable lol Thanks!

My spring break is always the week after Easter. We went back in 2019 and honestly it wasn’t that bad. We did take midday breaks though. So we’d go in the morning and then go back to the hotel and go to either the same or different park in the afternoon when it was less crowded. The fireworks at magic kingdom was the worst in terms of crowds, but I feel like that’s always the case.
We would just leave the park in the afternoon when it started to get crowded. It worked for us. I’m a teacher, so we are stuck to breaks or summer. We just make it work

The week before Easter and the week after Easter have two of the highest priced room rates of the spring break period. The only other time the rates are that high in 2022 is in December. That is usually an indication that it will be busy.

One of our normal weeks is Spring Break but ours falls in the 3rd week of March. It is usually very manageable, but the fireworks crowds can get overwhelming with kids. It is getting harder to maintain a spot for them to see without someone jumping in front of them at the last minute. We are planning for a SB trip next year. I have never been that close to Easter, but I would probably count on busier crowds.

I’m going for my Spring Break, but it is earlier than yours. That is just when I could go. I figure it won’t be any more crowded than our past Christmas trips and not as hot as my last summer trip.

Spring break can just as bad as Christmas—or it can be very busy but not insane. It is never a quiet time for sure. Itis a little more variable in terms of wait times than other holidays because school districts don’t al have the same week off and often change which week they have off—and some years one week may be way worse than another. We did it once but it was a “pack your patience” kind of trip and not the most enjoyable. You can also have weird weather. Our week started off in the 50s with pants and jackets and ended with several days in the high 90s as bad as any summer trip we’ve been on.

I went the week leading into Easter 2017. It was an absolute crap show. The crowds were large but manageable Monday, Tuesday but by Wednesday it was a wall of people. Friday was our only day in the Magic Kingdom and the 6 of us were there for a total of 6 hours and rode 0 rides. We saw a parade. We saw a few characters but did not ride a single ride. It was like something I never saw before.

We used to always go the weekend of Easter and stay the week after. It's busy but there are some pros; the weather is perfect, the parks are beautiful--especially Flower and Garden, there may be some fun character sightings at the resorts on Easter weekend (if you're there then). You'll also find that Disney is prepared for it, I never had any significant transportation issues.
You have to pay more attention to planning on those weeks, you'll want to rope drop--use that extra 30 minutes in the morning. Plan sit down meals to take a break. For a long time it was the only Disney that I knew, and I'm still a super fan so that says something.

Thanks everyone. I’m just torn. We went in the summer right after school so early June. Crowds were ok but whew the heat I really hate. So I worry about later April. It’s all so subjective too. One thinks it’s manageable others think it’s miserable If my Anti Disney husband would have agreed to end of Jan I’d be much happier!!! This would be our first real trip in 5 years. We only did 1 park day in June then a day at blizzard beach and universal days.

It's probably cheaper in June than it is Spring Break, if that matters at all.

When we went in 2019 the weather was really nice. There was one day it was hot but otherwise it wasn’t terrible. Easter was April 21st that year, so it’s right around the same time. We went there week after though, which I think runs a bit less crowded than the week before. I’m excited for Disney during Easter time though! Where did you want to stay?

With central florida, there is really no time of year you can go and be guaranteed to avoid the heat. The best weather we've had has been in November, but then you also run the risk of really cold days; it can vary so much even day-to-day. Have you considered the California parks? Their weather is much more mild.

March and April are my favorite months for weather in Orlando (just glorious) -- lower humidity than other times of the year. All that said Spring Break has gotten busier and busier and I think 2022 will be insane because of pent up demand (so many people who have put off trips). All that said we are planning a trip March 18-25. I'll be doing two park days at Epcot for Flower and Garden (during the week - slightly lower crowds with fewer locals and no concert) and a day at SeaWorld (weekend day - want to go some where on the weekend -- will enjoy Seven Seas festival, but the park will be more crowded). Both these parks have quite a lot that you look at and Sea World being show based means I won't be as affected by the crowds. I have adult children who will also be doing the Magic Kingdom and one park to park day at Universal. I'll be getting the the new version of fastpass for the MK -- Lightening Lane / Genie + (whatever they call it). And for their one park to park day at Universal I'll be buying them the one time EP passes (quite pricey for sure). These will help make crowds a little more tolerable.

The current crowd level predictions for your days on touringplans.com are more moderate for your days than for our spring break week (for us it's crowd level 8-10) predictions. The weekend before Easter at the moment (but I wouldn't give the prediction that much weight) is predicted to be less crowded than the Monday - Wednesday you are talking about.

HIndsight: (I'm not tied to the school schedule and think this will be the last time I book a spring break week due to higher crowds and prices - I couldn't believe how high airfares were). The weather is usually just so great, though. I think next time I may try the last week in Feb. into March for slightly fewer spring breaks -- all times are fairly busy though these days.

I'm leaving DH home on my trip (He doesn't deal with crowds well) and am just going with Disney diehards (people who can handle anything and are delighted to be at the parks even on crowd level 10 days).

We always go during Spring Break (and this year a “bonus” Christmas trip!). It is mostly the week before Easter and, yes, it is crowded but we know that going in. We rope drop, take advantage of whatever they are offering in the way of resort guest early entry. We generally do pretty well and are ready to return to the resort for pool time or a nap by early afternoon. We go back to the parks in the evenings and just relax and enjoy the ambiance. We do have park hoppers, and love the historic Disney attractions that don’t get all the “buzz” … like the People Mover, Tiki Room, Carousel of Progress, and the Teacups. Those are almost always our evening attractions. We love Spring Break! The weather is almost always great … and it doesn’t rain as much then!

We are going spring break for 2022-tied to several school schedules.
We have been several times both during times that are more crowded and times when it was not bust at all. For the last two years, we have done Christmas. Did rope drop, rest mid-day, then back for night park hours. We also do park hoppers. Last year this was the thing we missed the most-ability to go to several parks in a day. We felt trapped.

Like everything, there are pros and cons:
Non-busy times: low crowds but shorter park hours & fewer cast members. Also, some attractions closed & weather, not as consistent. Just not as much to do.
Busier times: We like the longer hours for everything (pools, parks, dining...) which allows for more flexibility throughout the day. There is just more to do. Maybe a bit more planning is involved during busier times, but seeing as you're on the boards, you are probably a planner.

Also I’ll add which no one knows I’d like to go when things are even more back to normal, more open which is happening slowly. Hopefully they get more cast members and I’d really like to not deal with masks but again there’s no way to know when they will take that away
