Am I getting ripped off?

I feel like a dummy when I look at the boards and everyone has booked through different agencies and such. I don't belong to AAA or have APs so I just booked straight through disney without any discounts at all. I booked 10 nights in a king room at the POR with Park hopper and dining for 2,897.00. Did I get ripped off? Should I change the reservation?

To be honest that sounds really good to me. Without AP's or AAA there really isn't much of a way to save . But the dining plan is a huge deal , and as long as you use it will pretty much pay for itself. Don't worry about what you read, have a GREAT time and enjoy Disney.

Thanks a lot! I was just curious b/c so many of the Dis posters use discount codes and such, I didn't know if I was way behind in making ressies.

you can also periodically check mousesavers.com for discount codes.. right now there aren't any available for just room only discounts.. but, never hurts to keep checking..

Hi!

First off-- YOU ARE NOT A DUMMY! ;)

I just booked my room at the POR 8 nights, park hopper w/ dining and riverview (and travel ins which is an adtl 120.00 total) value season (sept 23/oct 1st) through AAA and my rate was $2343.06. for the same ressie through Disney it would have been $2619.70. I feel i saved quite a bit (276.64) i can use some of the $$ towards my airfare.

But you have 2 more days on me-- your price does not sound too bad- with AAA they only give you a discount on your room, not the rest of the package anyway. But it always nice to save a little! :sunny:

You should think about joining AAA just for the discount- it does not cost that much- i am sure you can do it on line.

I'm really considering joining AAA b/c you can get so much more than discounts on vacations with that and there have been a few times that it would have come in handy

I don't think you're a dummy at all!! Nor do I think you're being ripped off but if you're in the U.S. I do think it would be worth your while to at least call an AAA travel rep and ask for a quote for the same package you just booked.

For example according to Mousesavers:
"During Value Season you can get up to 15% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 20% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites."

I see by your sig you're going next January i.e. value season. Rack rates (room only) are 155 before tax for POR (king bed) for Jan THIS year (don't know about 2007) so with 20% off you could save 31 dollars per night x 10 nights = 310 dollars and of course your resort tax is less then too so you save approx 340 (going by this year's rates).

I believe AAA do package discounts (only on the room portion) and what is it to join, about 70 dollars? So for the sake of a phone call you could have an extra 270 dollars spending money - 2 or 3 free dinners. :teeth:

I don't mean to make you feel worse and I'm certainly no expert having only been to WDW once but it's worth thinking about it. :)

Personally I would price the trip with AAA and if I save $$$, I would join AAA. I think it costs $50 for a AAA membership and if you save more than that, you might want to consider joining.

Don't you also get discount on purchaces with AAA??? :confused3
Was also thinking about joining!!!

You get all kind of discounts using your AAA card. Retail, dining etc. The only reason i got the card WAS for the discounts........if i ever have any car trouble.......my husband is a mechanic! :rotfl2:

It worth looking into!

I went last tuesday and got my AAA membership. Saturday morning My hubbies truck broke down and had to be towed. Interesting how these things happen.

The AAA discount on our room for this coming July saved us enough to pay for the year membership and let us upgrade to a kingdom view in the Contemporary Tower for the first 3 nights. All for the original cost of the room without the discount! It was a great deal for us!!!

I just got finished with getting $ quotes through disney for 9-29 to 10-5. Their quote for 2 rooms at Pop Century with 7 day hopper pass with DP (2 adults 3 kids) was $2875. The same deal at the Contemporary was $3470. We would be driving and would need to add AAA in case anything would happen. I will be making a phone call to see the $ difference for sure. My hubby wants to stay at the Contemporary again and if we saved some $ that would be wonderful! I would be spending it on the Family Magic Tour and the Pirate Cruise!

Now I'll be the dummy, what's a king room? One king size bed?

Just a king size bed, but since I posted this I've changed my vacation plans dramatically. We are no longer staying at the POR but are staying 12 nights at OKW

Thanks so much! We are so excited we just don't know what to do with ourselves but everyone says that it flies by so fast that we are trying to enjoy it without looking ahead so much ;)

Congratulations!

If you are staying that many nights, I'd get an AAA quote. Since the discount is off the room portion, it could be a good discount!

And as I mentioned somewhere on the DIS today, I left my car keys in the ignition last night and had to get AAA to jump start my car. There was no one else around to help me.

But isn't there a cancellation fee on packages. I know the OP would still be traveling to WDW but cancelling the reservation might result in being charged. It would be a question worthing asking.

Good Luck
