Am I getting old or is this horribly wrong?

:thumbsup2 I agree with you 100%

So here is the big fat elephant in this thread...

It is sick how it is mostly men (even husbands that don't post, but are shown the video) that are vehemently defending the dance as no big deal that semi-naked little girls bumping and grinding while licking their fingers.

:sad2:

Kudos to the men on this thread that are disgusted:thumbsup2

Ahh, so now it is a problem with men? :lmao: You realize that most of the people who support the dance in this thread are women, right? :rolleyes1

I guess that we need to just learn to be more like you. The world would be a much better place. After all, the only valid point of view is yours, right? :thumbsup2

As a mother of boys, I have to say: Ewwwwww. I cannot believe that you posted that.

I have a ten and an eleven year old son. To me, this this very weird as well. My sons would never dance naked in front of me with a towel on their heads-never. If they did, I would not laugh.

Yuck.

:thumbsup2

Key word: Vehemently

:rolleyes1

Ah, so then your problem is only with me. I am a man, to be sure, but I doubt that I am a very good representative of my gender. After all, I dance naked and have fun. So, don't take it out on my fellow male posters. They are just victims of my poor characterization of manhood. :thumbsup2

I didn't see that. Maybe I need to borrow your glasses the next time that I watch the video. :confused3

Well I DO have my (very strong) glasses on and I did NOT see any finger licking of any kind and I watched it about 3 times to try to see what the heck PP's are talking about?

There were a couple times during "oh oh oh's" where the girls put their HAND to their mouth to cover it, but NO finger licking...

I thought it was cute and yeah probably a little over the top , but dang those girls can dance!

(btw Bama, my DS (who is NOT developmentally disabled) occasionally dances around naked when he gets dressed in the a.m. or gets out of the shower  I just laugh it off and tell him to get dressed..He's doing it in good fun and knows full well that while it's fine to do it in the privacy of his own home, he knows it's not something to do in front of other people. Too him, he's just having fun!

Although I think that you are a troll trying to get a rise out of others, I will attempt to explain something to you…..

As a mother that also has a 10 year old boy that, like your son, is not neurotypical, I want to gently tell you that it is our responsibility to guide our children towards appropriate behavior.

Saying that your developmentally challenged child dancing the Can-Can every day for his mother whilst naked is a “fun thing” is irresponsible. As a parent, it is our job to point out what is not acceptable for a child his age.

Good luck.

I agree.

Where did you see that? :confused3 That is just sick and no oral sex was simulated in that video.

I didn't see any finger licking *or* simulated oral sex either.

That's one of the more bizarre statements I've read on the DIS. Dance moves that are considered sexual when an adult woman does them but not when a little girl does them. I'll have to think on that one for a while.

Nah.

I understand it completely. Now let me say that I am not sure I would want my daughter dong some of those moves, but I found nothing wrong with the costumes. Bathing suits show more, unless you child doesn't wear a 2 piece.

Anyway, the girls are too little to understand the moves as being sexual. Just like when an 8 year old sees 2 people kissing, they thing yuck and don't understand what is going on, but a teenager or an adult does understand what kissing means.

It is still wrong.

Just like those people that video tape their children saying the F word and put it on youtube:headache:

Although the children don’t know what they are saying, it is still wrong. Just wrong.

I wasn't making a judgement on it, I was explaining how what a pp said. And someone said that it was a strange statement. I NEVER said it was right or wrong. So please don't put words in my mouth.

I did just go back and watch the whole thing again. There is nothing wrong with those costumes. If you think those are to small, then what do you think of gymnasts that have much less material on and have their legs wide open for various moves. Now before anyone says that I am comparing this dance to gymnastics, I am not. I am comparing the costume and nothing more.

As far as the moves, some of them were questionable to me, but I don't like to see adults do those moves. There was no finger licking. And yes I do think that they could have toned it down some. But boy those girls are talented.

As exhausting as this is...

There's a time and place for a two piece bathing suit. At the beach. Not bumping and grinding. Building sandcastles. Yada yada yada. OK?

Thanks for the explanation on kissing. :thumbsup2 If a child doesn't understand about sex, do you let them watch sexually explicit movies because they don't get it? And it's not just about what they're doing on the stage, it's about the people who DO understand the sexual moves who are watching, including strangers in the audience and on the Internet. AND as someone pointed out, kids understand a whole lot more about sexuality than we give them credit for.

Ok, now where do you get that I let my kids watch sexually explicit movies. And I am sorry but dance IS a place for costumes that would normally be inappropriate. As I states, I was explaining about the statement made, nothing else, I amazes me how everyone can be so judgmental.

I wore a very small costume with fishnet hose. Think french maid. I was 9. My dad who was uber strict didn't have a problem with it, he realized it was a dance and within the context of the recital it was a place for such costumes. This was a man that wouldn't let me out in the front yard in my bathing suit for any reason.

Also l didn't become a pole dancer or stripper and really am probably way more conservative than a lot of people here on the Dis boards.

As I stated, I do think the dance could have been toned down. And I don't think I would like my DD doing it at that age. But the costume would have been fine for her to wear.

I think there was a finger lick towards the beginning of the video -- it was done very fast, and there was also a point where one of the girls bent over suggestively. I did a doubletake and rewound it to be sure, but I'm pretty certain it was there.

I'm sorry, but I'll never be convinced that a child has to show their talent in such a sexualized manner. They don't have to be Shirley Temple, but there's nothing wrong with being age appropriate!

...Also l didn't become a pole dancer or stripper ...

Are you sure about that? I mean, some of these ladies are pretty confident that this is a slam dunk outcome. ;)

Didn't have a child at 14 or anything? :upsidedow

So I just showed this to DD18, made no comment re my opinion at all. She says, "Oh my gosh, are they teaching them to be strippers?".

I can certainly appreciate the talent there, but there is no way that either of my DDs would have been allowed to wear those costumes at that age.

If they were licking their fingers simulating oral sex.....VERY inappropriate:headache:

Wow, if you think that was simulating oral sex you may want to take a refresher sex-ed class :rolleyes1

Anyway you are all talking about the outfits being inapppropriate. Could someone be specific because revealing doesn't really mean tey are inappropriate, almost ALL dance costumes are revealing. What is it about that particular one that makes you feel its inappropriate.

Here are some more examples of typical costumes, they show just as much, if not more skin. Do you find these just as bad? If not, why? BTW these were all found undr 9 year old dance search.

That's cool - we are all entitled to our opinions. :goodvibes

That is what makes the internet great - the open exchange of ideas. :thumbsup2
