Hi all! I live in Northeast Pa. I've been searching for reasonably priced flights and can't find anything. I feel like I'm forgetting one of the smaller airport. I'm 1hr from Binghamtom, Ny, and Scranton Pa. 2hr from Allentown, PA. 3 from Albany, Philly or Newark. Am I forgetting anywhere ?

Syracuse, Newburgh, and Harrisburgh, and even Newark and Philadelphia?

I guess the real answer to the problem would be found once we know what the definition of "reasonable" airfares would be.

Newark and PHL should be fairly low in comparison, so I'm concerned that airfares, regardless of origin point, may not be low enough for your parameters.

Yes - I mentioned Newark and PHL specifically because I am familiar with the problems of a regional airport. Rochester NY has often been in the top 5 expensive airports. Driving to a larger market with more competition and more direct flights has always been a way to lower flight costs.

I would worry about LGA and JFK unless you can add lots of traffic contingency time. I thought crossing the George Washington Bridge would be "safe" Sunday before last at 2pm. wrong! Just as we crossed the bridge, all lanes on the cross bronx stopped, delay estimated at 1 hour or more. I ended up taking a thought provoking 2 mile detour through the Bronx...

Actually, the airfare out of Scranton is within $30 of EWR. I just refuse to pay upwards of $360 pp. historically I have been able to get flights for 150$-200$/ pp.

Those days are long gone. With jet fuel prices spiking to $7.50 per gallon in many places, the airlines would all go out of business in a week of they went back to those $150-$200 fares. Most of my business flights within the continental US now run $600 RT plus. It's just a fact of life.
You could always drive....

Well as recently as a week ago I got $400 RT to LAX. I fly frequently, and just don't seem to be getting the deals---just for this upcoming trip in Oct. Got a great price on my flight to Miami, and just priced RT to Paris for $800pp. So I'm wondering if I should just keep looking. I will check some of the places you guys reminded me about (duh-LGA?!? How could I forget that?)

Thanks!

If you want to go to MCO, forget Allentown. They are more interested in trying to get international flights than getting a flight to Florida. It is 10 minutes from my home but we need to go to Newark or Phila to go anywhere.

Is Islip another option (ISP on LI)? For reasonable flights with non-stops it is difficult to beat JFK and LGA. I always shop the other local airports but JFK/LGA always have fantastic flight prices. We already got our 2014 flights, non-stop RT on President's week out of JFK, $178 each. Very hard to beat.

I noticed the same thing. I also noticed Philly is cutting back on flights to FL. Weird.

Who are you flying? We are planning a trip then also.

I admit, I did luck out this year. I got an email from American saying there was a flight sale. I got non-stops out of JFK to TPA for $178. I haven't done that well for a few years. We are leaving 2/14 and back on 2/22.
